  1. Not a bad signing. He can play all over the place and seems pretty patient with the bat. This seems like Hendry type of move, and isn't real surprising. I'm not too thrilled or disappointed with this one.
  2. Agreed, but Michaels would be in CF while the FA would be in LF (hopefully Drew/Soriano). Michaels will probably be non tendered. Even better. Michaels is no good and he is already 30 years old
  3. Levine said that they are talking to Durham and are talking to the Indians about Jake Westbrook Also could look at Padilla, Meche, and Lilly Doesn't see Zito or Schmidt coming to the Cubs
  4. Rosenthal has some interesting nuggets from the Meetings: "Believe it or not, the Cubs again granted Ramirez an escape clause, this time after his fourth year instead of after his second. The risk isn't as great; Ramirez figures to be less attractive at 32 than he was at 28." "The Cubs still want to add two starting pitchers, and free-agent left-hander Ted Lilly appears to be one of their principal targets. The team has made early contact with Lilly's agent, Larry O'Brien, who describes the Cubs as an "intriguing" possibility." http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6165654
  5. So far he has under-paid every signing. Other big acquisitions will require big dollars, regardless of the team. The Cubs will overpay for somebody this offseason, but so will pretty much every other team looking to upgrade. He didn't underpay for Rusch and Neifi
  6. Look for Hendry to talk with Washington. He has shown interest in Kearns and Vidro in the past. He and Bowden are always trigger happy on deals as well. I look for Hendry to make a trade this week.
  7. Said starting pitching is number one priority, says Jim will look to add some at the GM meetings this week Said that a big bat will be looked for, and mentioned Soriano Said Trib has said they will spend what it takes to win Said that Ramirez is a good player and he just wants him to play with passion everyday Said Hendry will look at trades and made it seem like they will move fast, mentioning many times that Jim would like to get things done at GM meetings this week Also said he thinks Demp will bounce back and return to '05 form
  8. It seems like a lot of people including me like Roberts. Has anyone heard any numbers regarding him(Years/dollars)?
  9. Agreed lock him up now. Feed him the same crap you fed Aramis and get him to sign for a discount
  10. If you think about it, that kind of contract might not be all to suprising if Hendry really is changing his style. Last year he was the slowest GM in baseball, and made barely any moves at the beginning of the offseason. Now, he will make a quick strike at a top FA target. That would be his final offer. If Drew and Boras took to long to look at the offer, and weren't definitive on an answer, Hendry will have moved on to another target for the the OF in a week or so. At least im hoping thats what this kind of large offer would mean. I don't see any of Boras guys signing quickly. Especially if the Cubs and Red Sox are both interested. He will use them to drive up the price.
  11. Better post to make this thread 100 pages
  12. Hopefully Kerry can be our closer. I think he is perfect for the role. Amp it up for one inning and get out of there.
  13. Trade: for Austin Kearns, and Jason Jennings or Brett Myers Dump: Jones, Dempster, Izturis(It won't happen though so I'll keep him in my lineup) Sign: Roberts, Wolf, Nomar CF-Roberts LF-Murton 2B-Nomar 1B-Lee 3B-A-ram RF-Kearns C-Barrett SS-Izturis Zambrano Jennings/Myers Wolf Hill Miller/Prior
  14. for 5/70 this is good news, we were pissed when Hendry didn't go to $100 mil. and now he got him for $70 mil.
  15. What a waste of 30 some pages of bantering. lol
  16. Didn't Ramirez have a NTC? If he wants to leave now, why wouldn't he have waved it then? Was he hoping for the playoffs still?
  17. QFT A power bat to replace ARam is needed but I would rather have two average power guys and a pitcher minus some prospects/suspects than one POWER guy. My view, would you rather have 50 HR and a 350ish OBP out of two spots in the batting order or one 30HR hitter? I couldn't agree more, I think we could get Roberts, Nomar, Burrell(get rid of Burrell if you think Murt is the real deal, I'm still not sold on him), and trade Jacque, Dempster, and Mateo for Kearns and Vidro(would have to come if we get Kearns to balance out money), and still be able to pick up a pitcher or two CF-Roberts 2B-Vidro 3B-Nomar 1B-Lee LF-Burrell RF-Kearns C-Barrett SS-Izturis Zambrano Wolf Hill Igawa/Meche Prior/Miller Then when Vidros contract is up Michael Young will be sitting there in FA
  18. By the way. I was upset at Hendry for not trading A-ram (maybe could of had E. Santana) and Pierre for something at the deadline, and now look what we get for them. Drraft picks.
  19. If this report is true then let Aramis walk. Spread out the money and get a few guys out of Wolf, Nomar, Soriano, Roberts, Schmidt, make some trades with your young pitching and get a 2B or SS. You don't neccesarily need huge power guys in your order, just guys who can hit at all the spots in the order.
  20. Bidding for Iwamura already ended, and with JIm working on Wade Millers contract you know that there was not time to bid on Iwamura
  21. lol Instead will get to watch Sarge Jr. and Derosa hustle to first just to get their avg. up to .250
  22. Now Hendry will put all of his eggs in one basket (Soriano) like always and get burned with that to.
