  1. ^^^^^^^^^^ why? To have all your eggs in one basket for ONE pitcher, is suicidal.
  2. Why wait for Brian F Giles? The guy wants to hold out as long as possible, for a bidding war. Nobody knows whats up with him, and which side of the country he's willing to play on. The odds of the Cubs landing him, with 5 times wanting him, aren't very good. Boston, NY, and the Cards being amoung the interested. Hendry is aggresively bolstering arguably our biggest problem last season. Championship caliber teams, have strong bullpen's, and we'll have just that in 06. The doomsday "omg" comments really are a tad irratating. I'm happy our GM is at least signing pretty good pitchers, to help out the bullpen. The only two big names left for bullpen help, are Ryan and Wagner.
  3. I can't believe people here think we coulda gotten them for cheap. The Yankees and Red Sox are in the NEED for bullpen help. Do you realize they'll throw a ton of money at these guys, if given the chance? Good job Hendry, fix the bullpen, strengthen our pitching.
  4. TERRIBLE move by the Sox. Better off using the money to give to Paulie. Oh well, the WS will be played in Chicago next year, but not on the South Side.
  5. Our medical staff is already busy with Wood and Prior. No thanks.
  6. I woulden't read too much into it. After you make alot of money, and have mics and cameras all up in your face, you tend to just rattle and say alot of things.
  7. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ bingo. I'd like to see the stats, that show the 8th inning is more important in terms of stopping the other team then the ninth. I'm pretty sure teams mount their attack mainly in the 8th inning, and what happens then, determines the outcome of the game alot more.
  8. I just think people shoulden't jump off of the cliff because of this signing. I think Hendry will get Furcal, and add somebody else. As long as we fix our bullpen and our leadoff hitter, we'll fix two of the glaring weaknesses of our team. Judge Hendry at the end of the FA season.
  9. Giles wants alot of YEARS, and at some point he will drop of dramatically. Those stats are good, but we have nobody in the bullpen to get that cruical out. Not to mention, it would be nice if the Cubs can have a full season of pitching from the twin ragdolls.
  10. The other sad thing, is the past few peoples people cried for the Cubs to sign the likes of Hampton, and Thome, yet when they didn't, they came out on top. Giles WILL drop off at some point, and the Yankees will outbid everybody for his services. The guy demands playing on the West Coast, or playing with his brother. In other words hes a prima-donna knowing hes the big fish in the small pond. If you think Hendry's gonna throw ALOT of money at him, only for him to age rapidly, it's not going to happen. If Giles was 29 or 30, it'd be different, but this guy is aging quickly, and its not worth giving him a 12 mill a year deal.
  11. People cry when Hendry does something, people cry when he doesen't do something. If you THINK you can do a better job, you're fooling yourself. The FA market is VERY thin, and the Cubs need to improve their bullpen. Our bullpen the last two seasons has absolutely sucked terribly. We've mostly had young pitchers, who can't even utter the phrase "big game." This gives us a BIG GAME PROVEN pitcher, with good stats. This is a move for desperation, and Hendry didn't want to banter back and forth with 3 other teams lobbying for the same guy.
  12. how do these moves work? do the cubs get to choose the player? or the rangers?
  13. Ahhhh yeah, my bad. I meant Bruce Miles. Sorry.
  14. Take it easy on Bruce. He's a regular in this forum, and is a cool guy. Theres NO reporter out there that knows 100% of whats going on. They do however have inside sources, so theres validity to what they say. Stop the bashing.
  15. Sarge is very dumb. I do believe Carl admitted to being homosexual, I don't understand the drama here though.
  16. This is horrible news. What a waste of money. Watch Hendry throw more ridiculous cash at Furcal.
  17. http://www.baseballhalloffame.org/hofers_and_honorees/frick/index.asp
  18. Which one would you rather have on the Cubs? Oh, neither isn't an option. The Cubs WILL get one of them, bank on it.
  19. Although his stats in the minors were good, I say we sign Furcal, and trade Cedeno for an outfielder. Furcal has already proven himself in the big leagues, has already been in the playoffs, and is coming from one of the leagues best franchises. He brings experience, and talent to the table. While Cedeno looks good on paper, its my opinion that he doesen't seem to be a groundbreaking kind of player, and if we're not going to give him the starting job, its best to trade him now while his value is at its highest.
  20. This Cubs team is sure looking good. The double switch brings Macias to LF. Dusty, always finding a way to sub in the midgit.
  21. Always fun getting owned by the Giants. Chicago Cubs Baseball.
  22. Baker's getting stubborn in his old age. He simply doesen't get it.
  23. I am of the opinion that we should release Macias right now and stock up with kids on our roster. Baker would kill himself if he cant user any veterans hahaha. i wouldn't have a problem with that. i love the fact that this takes away from dusty's toybox. getting rid of neifi and macias would probably be enough to make him resign, haha. hahaha! toybox. Dusty would cry if Macias or Neifi were traded. Goodbye Hollandsworthless, good riddence of your suckiness.
  24. ok. whos going to leadoff for the Cubs next season? A bonafied leadoff hitter in Furcal, is what the Cubs NEED. And hes an ex-brave which means hes learned to play the game right.
