The problem, is there are NO FA OF's, right now worth any value. The Cubs have plenty of money to spend anyway. Why not sign Furcal, then get an OF via trade?

If we don't get furcal, we NEED to trade a good amount of prospects away to field a strong team. This is absolutely pathetic. Hendry has put all his eggs in the basket for Furcal.

Agreed. Its one thing to not like/want players on the cubs. Its another thing, to be realistic. Your desires and preference of players aren't reasonable, being that none of them really are on the market besides Furcal.

I believe this rumor was already shut down, not to mention Manny has that no trade clause. Take it with a grain of salt.

Thats why I didn't even care about Brian Giles. I knew he'd re-sign with the Padres. How do I know? Because he never openly shopped for different teams, he never visited different teams, and his agent has been silent since free agency started. Moveon.org

Floyd has said NO to a trade to the Red Sox, which all but means Manny is NOT going to the Mets. The Mets will have to part with alot of good players if this were to happen anyways.

I just don't view the Mets as a dangerous team. Even if they get Manny (which they won't) they just don't strike me as a playoff team.

They have an aging Pedro, who we all know is only going to get worse, an ancient Tom Glavine, Victor Zambrano who has no right having Zambrano as his last name, and Heilman who is hittable. If they trade away their young pitchers for Manny, it'll only get worse.

They'd still have horrible pitching, and a below average defense.

LA is such a stupid team. They should shell out bucks and get themselves Konerko, or a proven first baseman, instead of praying Walker can field the position.

This makes no sense. 1) Why would the Phils trade Abreu? 2) They already lost Wagner, and Thome, they need to keep the impact bats. 3) Philly fans would kill management. 4) The pitching offered, is little to nothing in regards to high quality proven players. 5) They can do MUCH better then that for a trade.

Ive been saying all along, that Giles was gonna get a MEGA offer. Did anyone think he woulden't? Yanks, Red Sox, Jays, Mets, Cards.......all teams being powerhouses, with lots of money aval, and who needed an impact OF. Moveon.org

I want Furcal not only because we NEED a legit leadoff hitter, but because he's Dustyproof. Dusty won't give him many days off for Neifi. Whereas if Cedeno is playing at SS, Dusty would sub him an aweful lot.

All I know is for the past 100 years, we've had shoddy teams, with shoddy lineups, except for the santo/banks/williams trio. The Cubs have cheaped the team, cheaped the fans, and cheaped the city of Chicago. I'm all for dropping large amounts of cash to win NOW. It worked for the Yanks, Red Sox and could very well work for the Cubs. We had alot of supposed "studs" in our farm system, only to see some flop, some get hurt, and some not get playing time. Hendry gave the team 2004 and 2005 to try and cost effectively make our way to the playoffs, which didn't happen. The White Sox just won, and this is his last contract year, do you really expect the man to take alot of chances and not drop dough on FAs?

I like what Bradley might bring to this team. A fighting spirit, playing with emotion, and caring about the outcome of games. -
What is everyones concern with overpaying!? It's not YOUR money and last I checked we hadn't won a championship in a CENTURY. I reposted that from another thread because it's true. Hendry's damned by the negative Cub fans no matter what he does. If he gets OBP guys, then people get angry cause we'll lack in power. If he gets speedy players, people will be angry because the pitching sucks. Bottem line, we had 3-4 holes in the team entering the off-season. So far one of them is completely patched up, that being the bullpen***. If Hendry lands Furcal, or Pierre, that fills a position, with a leadoff hitter. While we're overspending, and trading prospects in this sort of deal, who really cares? We haven't won crap in 100 years. *typo

I've been saying for awhile, that theres ALOT of teams that need bullpen arms, and they want to get em sold now, before it becomes a bidfest. Wagner is the only guy left now, and I'm thinking he'll get more then Ryan.
