  1. good point. would it be wrong to assume Pierre can get better? He's 28 years old.
  2. I'm just tired of seeing people post "OMG WE SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN (insert better precieved option here) !!!!" The Marlins were a good fit, and a willing partner. The Phillies were not actively shopping Michaels, and the Nationals don't know if they're selling or buying. They don't even have a clear owner of the team.
  3. What kind of leadoff man needs SLG %? His job is to get on base regardless if its bunting, singles, or doubles. Sure I'd prefer doubles, but the guy gets on base. Bottom line. .248 batting average of leadoff hitters in 05. Pierre is a monster upgrade.
  4. He pointed out that Pierre is a well-liked guy, with great character. Good fit in the clubhouse.
  5. How come they aren't able to add 2 more players to the list?
  6. Pierre has played every game the last 3 years, he works hard, and he walks more then he strikes out. Hes the best leadoff hitter the Cubs have ever had. I'll take him.
  7. Why? Why don't the Cubs give Hill an official chance to be the 5th starter? All this talk of prospects and "potential" just see how effective Hill can be. Let him learn the job. I really don't care to sign another SP, and I don't want Rusch starting.
  8. Good post. I definitely agree. We can't keep everybody in the minors, and we're getting proven talent, in a proven winner.
  9. What players are you speaking of, on the trade block, that'll bite at an offer of Nolasco/Pinto? Wilkerson and Bradley. Walker career leadoff: .291/.349/.443/.792 Pierre career leadoff: 304/.354/.375/.729 Walker's better, it's pretty clear. How many AB's does Walker have in the leadoff spot, and were they all done in Boston? I only ask, because Pierre has been putting up those numbers for awhile now, not to mention he had an off year in 05.
  10. whose to say that pierre will be a cub in 07? I don't quite get what your'e trying to say. It doesen't matter if hes signed through one year. If Pie stinks up the joint, and Pierre does a good job, give him an extention. If Pie doesen't blow the doors off of AAA, give him an additional season, extend Pierre, then maybe trade him at the end of two years. Theres many options and creative ways to approach this. The FA market is taxxed for decent players, and now is the time to strike. I will offer a bet to anybody here, that Pierre plays better then he did in 05, and that he'll be a good player at Wrigley.
  11. Let's say Pierre does well and Pie struggles at AAA, the Cubs get to enter a bidding war for Pierre the following year. Or they sign him to a long-term deal this Spring to prevent him from becoming a FA and then let the battle begin. I can tell you right now, Pie is better defensively than Pierre at this moment. I don't think we have a burning need of a defensive CFer. We need offense badly, and Pie hasen't even played at AAA yet, let alone perform at the MLB level. Its a huge assumption that he'll be ready in 2007.
  12. Please give me the stats Todd Walker had batting leadoff. Compare those to Pierre. Even if Walker is marginally better, I'd rather have Pierre batting first. What players are you speaking of, on the trade block, that'll bite at an offer of Nolasco/Pinto?
  13. Whose to say that Pie will definitely be ready and kick ass in 07? We really don't know how the kid will react to everything and how well he'll perform. Sure, lets throw Todd Walker into a role hes never played, and lets continue to experiment, while we pray it works out and go on to win a World Series. I'm tired of waiting around and experimenting. I want a proven player, in the proven position, that'll play his heart out. Pierre is guy for the 1 hole.
  14. beggers can't be choosers. Not all of our minor league arms are going to make it on the 5 man rotation on the Cubs.
  15. The Dodgers need to sign Nomar now. Their roster is gonna be a mess of infielders next year.
  16. Please do something Jim. Make this team better for once.
  17. I just want someone to get on base more then C-Patt or Neifi. I'm at the point where anybody is better then our current options.
  18. Hes gonna get a team full of studs over the next two years, I don't feel bad for him.
  19. That article is well-written and is pretty accurate. The Cubs havent done a damn thing.
  20. I want to say yes to this trade. Guzman is already injured goods. I don't think he'll amount to much, or be able to throw 200 innings at the MLB level.
  21. I would love the infusion of younger players. It brings alot of energy and work ethic to the field.
  22. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Good trade imo. We get two young offensive hitters, entering their prime, with World Series experience.
