  1. Out of towner that would like to listen in...should I try WGN, the Score?
  2. I don't think the Bears won last night, I think the Cardinals lost. Just a pitiful showing by Green and his coaching staff once the game became 23-3...they're offensive play calling was beyond bad. Green can pound the podium all he wants, those antics are just to try and cover up the miserable job he did coaching. On another note, didn't Barkley say that 20 points wouldn't be enough to win the game and he make some sort of "bet" with Kornheiser? Does this mean Barkley will be doing MNF games from now on?
  3. MSNBC is in on the act They report a three year deal http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15254014/from/ET/
  4. I think you have to add the Panthers to that list. If I had to pick the playoffs: NFC Division Winners: Giants Panthers Bears Hawks WC: Rams, Eagles I can't even do the AFC right now other then the Pats and Colts. I think the Broncs and Bolts are in but I don't have a clue which one wins the division. Two of Bengals/Steelers/Ravens/Jags don't make the playoffs, and if I had to guess it would be Ravens and Jags on the outside, but them getting inwould surprise me less then say the Vikes or Cowboys.
  5. My softball team just shed a tear.
  6. All of the local channels are reporting that indeed, Lidle was on the plane. It took off from Teterboro Airport in North NJ (about three miles from my house) so this one feels a little close to home.
  7. Sorry, I wasn't alive in 1969...the last time the Mets cost the Cubs anything.
  8. We're not as close as some, but being right by Penn Station we could hear a lot of sirens (before we heard on the news) and the local radio station websites crashed...sort of a flashback for some.
  9. Personally, I'm pulling for the Mets for a couple of reasons 1) My wife got tickets to all the games that remain (she's their traffic engineer) and since she's studying for her PE, the only time I'll see her when she's not sleeping, studying, or eating the next month is at Shea Stadium 2) Oh, she'll get a WS ring too if they go far enough 3) It'll shut Yankees fans up for at least 12 hours, although they're already going on about how the Mets couldn't win anything without a Yankee leading them. 4) A Mets WS win is bound to increase the value of my autographed Steve Trachsel bat
  10. Did we see this yet? http://www.theonion.com/content/node/53698 Hungry Bears Defense Feeds On Soldier Field Crowd October 5, 2006 | Onion Sports CHICAGO—The league-leading Chicago Bears defense, which overpowered and dominated the Seattle Seahawks last Sunday en route to a 37-6 victory, took time after the game to emphasize that they would not have had the extra energy needed to hold the Seattle offense to a mere two field goals if it weren't for the mass cannibalization of nearly 60,000 of their hometown fans. Enlarge Image "Without a doubt, these are the best fans in the world," said Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher, who said that without the rush he received from the supportive, nutrient-rich Bears fans he devoured during the game, he would not have had the strength to make seven tackles during the game, five of which were unassisted. "They gave us what we needed to play hard all four quarters, and this win is definitely for them," continued Urlacher, pointing to a section of empty, blood-stained seats that still housed the uneaten portions of dozens of loyal fans. "Mmmm," Urlacher added. "When I hear that crowd screaming, it just makes me hungrier and hungrier," said Bears safety Danieal Manning, who had four tackles against the Seahawks, and credits the 19 beta-keratin-rich fans he ate for his ability to see Matt Hasslebeck's eyes, aiding him in making two key interceptions. "Many people say that your crowd doesn't make a difference, but in well-fed, nutrient-rich Chicago, that certainly isn't the case." "They're simply the best," Manning added, licking his blood-encrusted teeth, the remnants of a gnarled human index finger still wedged in the gap of his two incisors. Bears fans are renowned as some of the largest, most well-rounded, vitamin-laden fans throughout the National Football League. Although the NFL does not keep statistics on the nutrition content of its crowds, conventional wisdom holds that the amount of protein in the Soldier Field crowd, thought to be double the league average, has allowed Bears defenses throughout history to quickly build and repair stressed muscle tissue during grueling 16-game seasons. "There is no question that they keep us going down the stretch," said 300-pound defensive tackle Tank Johnson, who says he gets a rush of energy from the women and children in attendance when he chews open their stomachs to consume any leftover carbohydrates stored in their digestive systems and the belly fat of their abdominal cavities before gulping down their cheeks and the flesh around their eye sockets, which he says gives him the necessary supplement of the L-cysteine amino acid. "The sacrifice these fans make, especially the ones who travel to the away games… It just hits you right in the gut." ""I've heard from guys who play in Miami, Tampa Bay, and Minnesota, and they all complain that their fans just aren't as good as ours," added Johnson with a slight belch brought on by the high fat content of a fan who used to sit right behind the goalpost. 302-pound defensive lineman Ian Scott agreed with his teammates, saying that there is just something different about the heart of a Bears fan that is different from that of any other in the league. "It isn't just their heart—it's their nutrient-rich kidneys and livers, too, that make them such an integral part of the game," said Scott, who along with safety Mike Brown, linebacker Lance Briggs, and cornerback Charles Tillman, tends to enjoy the fleshy calf and thigh muscles first while coating their exposed skin with the excess fat adhering to fans' bones in order to keep themselves warm during brutal Chicago winters. "I don't know how many times opposing quarterbacks have been unnerved by our unique relationship with the good, tender, juicy people of Chicago, and have thrown an interception or fumbled a snap because of it." "I can't imagine eating any other fans, and I hope I never have to," Scott added. With the Bears jumping quickly out of the gate with a 4-0 record, many in Chicago are talking Super Bowl, and though head coach Lovie Smith said he plans to take it one game at a time, he knows the benefit of having a home-crowd presence on the world's grandest stage. "Hopefully we can pack the stadium in Miami with Bears fans," Smith said. "It'd be great to have their unique Soldier Field flavor with us to help get us through the big one without a hiccup."
  11. I did. Honestly. Been pimping Rex since before the 2003 draft. I was ticked at the Bears that draft day. I remember Jauron or someone saying the draft was 12 players deep as far as top talent then trading their pick for the 13th and 22nd pick. I was mad that they did what the Cubs do and get ok players to fill two needs instead of a franchise player to fill one need. I was all hot and bothered for Byron Leftwhich. But now I've seen the error of my ways and know that when it comes to Sexy, there is only one Rexy. edited: because I'm so used to complaining about my NBA team's drafts, that I dropped their name in.
  12. I read somewhere that there is a 95% chance that the Bears/Giants matchup will be picked up by NBC. I hope they picked up the Bears/Pats game too because I'll be there, but I don't think they will have the Bears on 2 times in 3 weeks. Also, there might be a limit to the number of prime time games a team is allowed to have, and they already have 1 SNF and 2 MNF games. Also another candidate for a SNF game is the Bears/Packers, with it being potentially Favre's last game and the Bears going for 16-0 (;)) I come from the opposite side of the fence. I'll be going to both games in the Meadowlands and the last thing I need is for everyone to have all day to get drunk before the game starts. I get enough stuff thrown at me as it is.
  13. Apologies if this came up somewhere on the thread...I only read about half of it. Wasn't McDonough the same guy that had a meal with Stoney last week? With Brenley maybe heading to the bay, should I be reading into that at all?
  14. This is a disaster, I was so looking forward to entertaining Mets fans with the "Cardinals take it in the Pujols" t-shirt my friend got me at Wrigley and that my wife will only allow me to wear to a Cardinals playoff game.
  15. I'm telling you, the Trachsel years are coming back, baby! With Pedro out, he's almost guranteed a post season start...and if he wins it....he'll be like catnip to Hendry.
  16. The Mets fans I know are unhappy and gloomy. Now the hope is to get to the WS and not be playing the Yankees, because loosing to the Yankees would spoil the beautiful year they just had. I still think the Mets are a good team, and the team I think would be most likely to beat them is the Astros throwing out Clemmons and Oswalt four times.
  17. Bad news everyone...the wheels are coming off the bandwagon as the Buccos are slumping and the Baby Bears are now comeback kids for the third time this year. Pirates lead on the Cubs down to .5 a game. If the Cubs don't finish in last, I give even odds that Dusty is back.
  18. The problem is Jim assumes that bench players are going to get 40-100 starts because our entire team has leprosy and since he believes that defense is key; we get a bunch of players that are average/below average defensively (because he doesn't know how to evaluate defense) and are terrible offensively.
  19. Not being from Chicago (so I have no game) I have never gotten into the White Sox rivalry with the Cubs. However, Guillen has irritated be since his arrival and they were on the "teams to root against" list, although not as hi as the Yankees or Cardinals.
  20. Awesome, send them Dusty.
  21. I'd put money that W pardons them before they ever see the inside of a jail. Super-duper baseball guy that he is.
  22. You're right...they could sign Sheffield to a multi-year deal to play left after the Yankees let him walk. That is much more likely.
  23. One good start in the postseason from Trax (already rehabbing his image by clinching the eastern division game) and a "clutch" homerun and Jim won't be able to stop himself.
  24. I already wrote him about that...Brenly only ever played for the Jays and Giants....
  25. Well, for what its worth I made the Ask Sully column on this one: http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/askthewriter/cs-060920askpaulsullivan,1,1829539.story?coll=cs-cubs-headlines In regards to your Sept. 14 article, the Dodgers need to come up with something better then the ex-Cubs factor if they don't win the Series this year. The Ex-Cubs factor that Mike Royko wrote of was broken in 2001 when Mark Grace, Luis Gonzalez, Mike Morgan and Miguel Batista won the World Series with the Diamondbacks. --Damien Newton, East Rutherford, N.J. <--Damien=daymen That's only because they had an ex-Cub manager in Brenly who voided the ex-Cub Factor.
