  1. Are you, essentially, asking for someone to post a Crean-looking-really-really-dumb picture . . . ? You can pretty much always assume I'm asking for that.
  2. Maryland called that timeout. That said, the timeout did not help them much either. They executed very poorly defensively (or were naive tactically -- sound like the soccer fan I am, there) in allowing a rather open, top-of-the-key 3-pointer from a hot shooter.

  4. Sorry I'm late to this. I have not seen Coleman since he left Indianapolis Cathedral for La Lumiere. So I'm projecting a bit more than I'd like, but I would suspect he'll be able to play right away. He's a good athlete, long-armed, and has very good all-around skills. He took a lot of mid-range shots when I've seen him (not really meant as a complaint, he's a very good shooter--he just didn't really get to the rim often). I wouldn't expect him to be a star immediately but I'd be pretty surprised if he's not ready for significant minutes. Not necessarily as a direct player-to-player comparison, but, using IU freshman, I'd expect him to be more akin to what Robert Johnson has given IU this year, as opposed to James Blackmon, Jr. (and I do not mean that as an insult, Johnson has been quite good). Thanks for the response. Blackmon is the name I've often seen him compared to, so it's interesting you don't see him as the same type player. All in all he's closer to what I expected, solid but not a star immediately. I guess the good thing is that Groce keeps stacking those type of players and eventually when he has some of his own upperclassmen we should be improved, that is if he can ever add a legit point guard. He's probably more similar to Blackmon than Johnson; I just meant I would expect his impact maybe to be more like Johnson's. You win a lot of games by recruiting players of Coleman's caliber.

  6. Watched the game last. I don't watch as much MLS as some of the posters here, but that was a really good game and the quality of play was so much higher than critics would lead one to believe.
  7. Good for Indiana. Feel bad for SMU. Last year was their best shot to make tourney, I believe they absolutely deserved to make it and it appears they aren't as good this year. Because they lost two early road games? That's a talented, athletic team coached by Larry Brown. They had the look of a tournament team to me.
  8. Well, case closed then. At what point do you just embrace becoming the Dusty or Harold Reynolds of your era? Trying to read the tea leaves here, but failing.
  9. If one were inclined to argue the "losing control of the program" narrative, one could make a rather credible argument that the exceedingly light punishment of Perea set the standard for that.
  10. Not to put too fine a point on this, but Holt was over the legal limit because he's under twenty one years old. For adults, the limit is 0.08 ACE; for those under twenty-one, it's 0.02 ACE. So Holt committed both minor consumption and the operating offense. Good point, I should've said he wouldn't have been impaired. Though legally I guess he was. So he'll face an OWI charge, I assume the penalties are increased because he hit someone with the car? Yeah, his ACE was 0.025 which is, essentially, nothing (allowing exceptions for different metabolization rates for different people). This wasn't Hanner Perea's lunacy. The under-21 operating at over 0.02 is just a Class C infraction, along with a one-year license suspension (compare with adult OWI which starts at Class C misdemeanor). The under-21 doesn't have elevations based on hitting someone specifically (though that's not to say there's not another criminal statute that might apply to that). I had to look that up, but the under-21 statute isn't developed with different levels and elevating factors like the regular OWI statute.

  12. Except the English Premier League, La Liga, the Bundesliga, Serie A, Etc. . . . Shut up, soccer nerd. (I'm pro-college football playoff.)

  14. I have a really, really hard time believing that Durant only weighs twenty pounds less than Ilgauskas, who is 7-foot-3--thus six (six!) inches taller than Durant. As another comparison, using the sources you listed, Lebron James weighs 249-250 pounds. Something's wrong here, because I think it's fair to say "no way" does Lebron only weigh ten more pounds than Durant. Edit: Want to be clear that I'm not questioning your use of sources (because ESPN/NBA/Wikipedia are all legitimate). Just that I think we should be dubious of something here.
  15. 1992-93 IU should definitely be on that list. Especially considering 1993 Michigan is--a team IU beat twice in winning the Big Ten at 17-1. I believe IU was 24-2 (13-0) and No. 1 in the nation when Alan Henderson tore his ACL. (Sad that they're not even the best IU that had an injury kill their title chances.)
  16. In Indiana, "domestic battery" requires the parties to (1) be spouses, (2) be living as spouses (factors for this include duration of relationship, frequency of contact, financial interdependence, children together, maintenance of a common household, etc), or (3) have a child together. While not exactly uniform, I think is a relatively common definition throughout the states.
  17. Haha at Bulls fans (again), that deal would be an absolute steal for the Bulls.* With the caveat of Love's contract situation; though not only would Chicago likely have some assurances, but if Rose plays, Love would surely re-sign in Chicago.
  18. Dang dude, Liverpool can't even get a "at least exciting to watch" too after last year's swashbuckling style? They were very exciting to watch last year for sure, but I'm reserving judgement on how exciting they'll be this year until I see how they actually replace Suarez. They're going to be worse, no doubt. And score less goals, no doubt. You can't really replace Suarez (maybe Barca/Real could, Liverpool can't). But I would be pretty shocked if they don't continue playing an exciting, attractive brand of soccer -- albeit a little less effective version.
  19. You should be talked out of it. You don't have to go home (Liverpool), but you can't stay there (Chelsea).

  21. Yes. As bad as last year's draft of an IU player was, this year's draft of an IU player was excellent. Even in this draft, Vonleh at No. 9 was a coup.
  22. That says it all. We don't know. What we do know is that LeBron James is by far the best player in the world and has dominated the East (his team has made five of the last eight finals). Any team wanting to be the favorite over his team has a pretty high burden--far higher than "who knows[?]"
