  1. Sure, 7-3 is getting close, if not all the way there. But this does not change the fact that extrapolating anything from Crean's first three years at IU is specious.
  2. Ryan went 4-3 against Crean while Crean was at Marquette. Counting last year's sweep -- neither of which was in Bloomington -- he's 6-3 against Crean (which, I suppose, is close to "owning" depending on one's definition). Counting games against Crean's first three awful IU teams that everyone owned is entirely specious for this purpose. I love ignoring data points in an already small data set. Are you serious? You think you're the one that's being reasonable? Those "data points" are worth absolutely nothing. Indiana went three years without beating Wisconsin, Michigan State, Ohio State, or Purdue. Or, for that matter, Lipscomb or Northeastern. It's an absurd obfuscation without any contextual relevance to, well, anything. None of those games had anything to do with Ryan "owning" Crean; they had everything to do with Crean rebuilding and IU having awful, laughable bad teams. Unless you're going to get all excited about Ryan "owning" whoever the coach at UW-Milwaukee is (Rob Jeter).

  4. And they're choosing to go to overtime!?!? Holy crapballs. It's like Mora/Dungy/Caldwell-ball all over again. Manning's coaches have conspired against him his entire career. My goodness.
  5. Yup . . . another coach (different team even!) choses to play conservatively in the playoffs with Peyton freakin' Manning. Sigh.
  6. It's because Minnesota has been pressing and gambling the whole second half. It's led to many good things for Minnesota, but also led to lots of fouls. Indiana shot 4 free throws in the first half. And IU played zone.
  7. Georgia by 13 (Youngstown State beat them by 12)? Butler by -2? I also wouldn't be counting the game at Purdue as a win just yet. I've seen some pretty bad Purdue teams beat some pretty great IU teams (1992 springs to mind).
  8. I agree on the undervaluing of Big Ten homecourt, but I think Indiana is currently overrated by Pomeroy due to their Wisconsining of their crap opponents. Oh, sure.* What have they done? Right now, their best win per Pomeroy is North Dakota State (No. 45). Now, I wouldn't agree that's their best win, but the other candidates aren't much better: at No. 51 Iowa (my vote), home to No. 52 North Carolina, and neutral to No. 64 Georgetown. That's, um, less than impressive. *Well, I'd be tempted to give them more of an "incomplete." They've done nothing to really deserve a top-5 ranking; but I think it's certainly possible they could be (or, at least, could be eventually). That is to say that I don't believe this is a facially laughable situation like Wisconsin being No. 1 last year.
  9. Sure, me too (IU has proven very, very little this year). But that line seems pretty reasonable. Pomeroy has IU a seven-point favorite (and I think computers are likely to underrate Big Ten/IU homecourt advantages). And IU is very possibly catching Minnesota at a good time -- coming off of a big road win (previous results matter in unidentifiable ways -- such that if Illinois had lost to Ohio State, I bet they would have beat Minnesota). Edit: Also, Minnesota was the only team to win in Bloomington last year, adding more motivation for IU. This game means more to IU than Minnesota; if IU loses, well, that would not bode well.
  10. Oh snap. Ohio State talking crap based on their recent best win of the season: at Purdue! Um, yay?
  11. I laughed. Best Smack post ever.
  12. Tom Pritchard fouled like a mad man. Cody Zeller doesn't. Both wore IU uniforms. Perhaps there is another distinguishing factor . . .
  13. How come in the NBA Cole Aldrich averages a foul every 3 minutes when he showed the skill to never foul in college? Probably because he's playing against all NBA players instead of a few NBA players with a bunch of scrubs mixed in. And because he got away with murder in college? I'm sure he did. But worse/slower players foul better/quicker players regularly. Aldrich is now one of those worse/slower players, whereas he was not in college.
  14. On this board, big men for Indiana and Kansas should foul out even if the opposing team never even enters the lane. Duh.
  15. Over-compensating for something, amirite?
  16. No wonder Mbakwe is good, he's allowed multiple pivot feet!
  17. I don't think those numbers are true, at all, for the Fab Five. Even before doing research, Howard and Rose only being "top 20s" sounds rather unbelievable (as does Chris freakin' Webber merely being "top 10" -- c'mon, there's basically no way he wasn't at least top-two along with Glenn Robinson). Sure enough, according to this, Webber was No. 1, Howard was No. 3, Rose No. 6, and King No. 9 (http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/news?slug=jn-tophoopsclasses052909). Four of the Fab Five (short Ray Jackson) were McDonald's All-Americans. Weber was number one it think. Let me check on the others real quick. Edit ok , wow they had four top 10. How in the hell was Jimmy king a top ten guy? Well, yeah, King certainly seems overrated in retrospect. But Webber was dominant -- he left after two years, before that was commonplace, and was the top pick in the NBA draft. Howard was the fifth pick after his Junior year, then played eighteen years in the NBA. Rose was the thirteenth pick after his Junior year, then played thirteen years in the NBA. Those guys were really, really good. Edit: Except, you know, when getting swept by IU their last year together.
  18. Ridiculous. You aren't so good you should never be challenged. Two games in a row where we're losing in the second half at home to solid but not spectacular teams shouldn't happen. I'm following on gamecast, so I don't know what's really happening, but we shouldn't have trouble with ISU at home. Kansas is obviously really good -- as they surely will be as long as Bill Self is there. But living off the win against Ohio State -- SSR aside, how good are they, exactly? -- leaves some question marks, I think (especially considering the Grantland article ranking them No. 1). For the record, I think nearly every team has some questions about how good they are -- I'm not overly impressed by any of top teams resumes.

  20. For whatever reason, Pomeroy's formula has some weird infatuation with Wisconsin. He basically admitted such last year and it's less of a curiosity and more of a expectancy at this point. Though I am glad we're to the point where we can call an overrated spade an overrated spade.
  21. Not enough to drop him out of the top 10. He's still a fine prospect in a weak draft, no matter if he's overrated in the media. He plays a relatively worthless position in today's NFL though. There isn't a huge need for run stopping MLB with leadership skills. What about a run-stopping MLB with leadership skills and lots of individual trophies?
  22. You haven't won anything in 25 years and just got embarrassed on national television...and your response is to claim bragging rights over Indiana, Purdue, Illinois and Minnesota. I never claimed bragging rights. I'm just pointing out that the above teams suck. Yet all those teams combined have won the same number of titles as Notre Dame over that time (zero in case you can't count). They've also combined for three BCS bowl appearances (Notre Dame has four).
  23. I'm just pointing out that the above teams suck. I'm glad you're around to do so. I actually thought Indiana was a football powerhouse. I know I've almost ran out of money traveling to all their bowl games.
  24. Get used to Notre Dame in the BCS! Where so far they've lost by 32, 14, 27, and, currently, 28.
  25. That is such a bold choice. Wait, Indiana is god awful at football?
