  1. I'm surprised by the positive reviews of Turner Field. I've been to quite a few stadiums (upwards of 30) and it's probably one of my least favorite, excepting the crappy multi-purpose stadiums. The parking experience was the worst I've ever had -- by far -- and this from a place with well more than ample parking area.
  2. I live 4.5-5 hours away from Wrigley and lived even further away as a kid. I've often driven up to games and back on the same day. There is NO way I'd trade Wrigley Field for a newer stadium because of some traffic/parking issues. I'll take the traffic issues (which I think are overblown) and a classic stadium over a smoother trip for a shiny retro stadium. PNC, AT&T, Camden Yards are great parks. I love visiting them. However, there are two truly unique stadiums: Wrigley and Fenway. They are breathtaking and historical. Please Cubs, do not leave.
  3. I listened to about the 1st 10 minutes of it. I was gald to hear to say how important recruiting in-state was. I'm looking forward more to the Texas recruiting aspect though. Like I said before UK hit a home run, IU fans are going to have to sweat out Bud Mackey. Though I do think he'll end up in Bloomington.
  4. Seconded. And chew tobacco. Also, games should also be broadcast is black and white (or just on the radio). (I'm kidding, I love the high socks/stirrups) Yeah, and no black players! Oh wait...
  5. And for those that don't live near an L stop? Screw them right, I mean they can't possibly be Cubs fans right? Where did I mention a prairie? Soldier Field is close to the L, close the two highways, close to a major road for buses and cabs (LakeShore Drive). Have you ever tried to drive to or from a Bears game? It's a nightmare. Also Soldier field is not close to any L stops. It's a hike from the nearest one. Yes and it's close to the Roosevelt stop on the redline. Take a cab or walk from there. I have driven to Bears games, as well as taken the L and buses. I'll admit, none are perfect but at least they are options. With Wrigley, the only viable options are taking the L or driving and parking at a remote lot (which are free and have a free shuttle by the way which is fantastic). They tried to build a remote lot closer to the park and the neighborhood said "No". Buses and cabs are horrible after games. Has anyone here been to a game at BankOne? Or Safeco? Or Turner? All have very good access to public transportation. Not to mention all of the fan/family friendly aspects that I mentioned about the Cell, shorter lines, better statistics, better food, better walkways, better sight lines..... What are you talking about? Since when did Phoenix get light rail/subway? Seattle only has one stupid short monorail line that goes nowhere near Safeco. Atlanta: their train line goes nowhere near Turner. Public transportation <> just trains (subway/L) Turner Field has a multiple taxi stations, same for Safeco. The buses run on roads that are more than 1 lane (plus side parking) in each direction. Plus, they have PARKING. Wrigley is close to the L, but that is it. If you live anywhere other than the city it is hard to get to. The remote lots are great but the shuttle is slow along Addison and Belmont. It takes the shuttle 45 minutes to travel 3 miles. Taxis=public transportation?
  6. You should be. I hate Kentucky, but think this is a home run. Gillispie has been nothing short of a miracle worker at his previous two stops.
  7. I find it hard to believe either school will be able to upgrade the coaching positions (no matter what I think of Huggins).
  8. Agreed. I'd be honored to wear #42 for this reason, and would ask if I was a major league player. Jackie Robinson did a lot of the game of baseball and all races, not just African Americans in my opinion. I'd want to wear 42 to honor him and I'm certainly something less than dark skinned...
  9. Good move, he's definitely not a bad 3rd option and cert. doesn't qualify as settling for Gillespie. I think Gillispie is a great hire. If UK really contacted Barnes, fans should be thankful he turned them down. Gillispie is better than Barnes. I really wanted UK to drop down and have to settle for Crean, but was pretty sure Gillispie would take the job. Gillispie would've been on my radar if I was IU last year, I'd been tracking him since his UTEP turnaround. This may set up a recruiting battle for DeAndre Jordan. He may stay with A&M, I have no idea, and they might not let him out of his LOI, though I would doubt that. If not, I'm sure UK would want him (though generally, coaches don't recruit players they left behind). If Shaw does leave IU and Jordan is let out of his LOI, IU may be a big player for him.
  10. I'd be OK with that. I don't love the blues, but every once in awhile they'd be fine. Just never at home.
  11. What the hell!?!?!?! I'm in Evansville and ESPN is showing the Cardinals. Evansville is a Cards local market and FSN shows all their games here. Meanwhile, in Bloomington every Cubs game on ESPN is blacked out despite not being on TV elsewhere.
  12. According to this, Memphis is Cardinal, Braves, and Reds market. Looks like you're SOL. So that means I'll never get to use MLB.TV to watch Cub games? Not if they're playing the Cards, Braves, or Reds. The same thing happens to me with Astros and Rangers. That is just insane. The Reds are not on here on any TV service. We have Fox Sports South and CSS. Fox Sports south shows Braves games. Right now the Braves and Phillies are on. CSS shows no MLB games. I am going to swear :-# Hey at least you have some baseball on. Our local Fox Sports Channel is too cheap to pick up rights to show any games. We only get Fox national, WGN and ESPN games. (Making it even more ridiculous that three teams are blacked out here)
  13. That wouldn't work either. They use the zip code associated with your ISP to determine your market. So just find a proxy server to mask your IP address. Um, beam me up Scotty?? I have no idea how to do that. google search it. it's actually pretty simple if you have steps to follow. OK, thanks. I will likely be in Evansville the entire summer clerking, so it actually wouldn't be a lie for most of the season.
  14. I've always like Lilly and think he'll do even better in the NL. Looking good so far and you know three innings tells the whole story...
  15. That wouldn't work either. They use the zip code associated with your ISP to determine your market. So just find a proxy server to mask your IP address. Um, beam me up Scotty?? I have no idea how to do that.
  16. This may belong in rants, but I HATE MLB's blackout rules. I'm in Bloomington, IN and am blacked out from all Cubs games. I live at least 4.5 hours from Wrigley Field and get no games besides WGN or Fox national games. Bloomington is also considered the White Sox and the Reds local market. None of their games are televised here either. I could use my parents address in Evansville, but that wouldn't work today as they're in the Reds and Cards local market. Now, every Cardinal game is on down here, so I understand that. No Reds games are on here. I HATE the blackout rules, they make no sense. I can't just decide to go to a Cubs game, nor is MLB.tv taking viewers from actual TV, as no games are on here. UGH!!!!
  17. Good pick. I'm hoping for Tyler or Harrell.
  18. They could use a #3 WR, though Dallas Clark basically played that role this year and did it well. Steve Smith (USC) would be a reach at 32, but would be a near perfect fit. Sidney Rice is a better pick, but its obviously a homer one, coming from me. I also like Anthony Gonzalez for the Colts. Yes, they need a #3 WR, the offense was much better when Stokely was healthy, they have little depth at the position, and they could use a prospect to develop into a #1 or 2 as Harrison ages. That would also allow Clark to move back to TE as he isn't a slot receiver.
  19. If CCP holds true to Colt form, he'll surprise everyone with the pick. DT is probably the most likely selection, with LB a possibility (though I don't think the Colts value that position enough to take one in the first round and they have some good young ones already -- watch out for Freddy Keiaho). However, don't be stunned if they go with a WR.
  20. Ha ha. They'll be one of the top teams again next year in football, with a chance to repeat. However, they're likely to lose their top-6 basketball players and maybe even their coach. Certainly, they'd be the favorites if everyone came back, but that chances of that happening again are next to nothing, I'd guess.
  21. with tebow running that offense full time? i don't think so. Tebow is much better than Leak was. His arm is stronger and more accurate, he makes better decisions, and his running ability isn't far behind Leak's either. Did you just say Tebow's running ability isn't far behind Leak's? Maybe that was sarcasm I'm not picking up on, but Leak couldn't run at all while Tebow is damn near a running back who can pass.
