  1. Definitely. He could be a little more patient, but it's hard to dislike much about his game right now besides his defense.
  2. Harrison walked, Macias flew out, Vitters hit a double (single with Harrison going to 3rd, so Vitters ran to 2nd thinking the throw was going to go to 3rd, but it went to 2nd and he still beat it out because the CF double clutched his throw). Keedy hits a ball off the pitcher's (Christian Freidrich,sp?) leg that had some wicked spin and got past the first baseman once it hit the ground. Boise up 1-0 with Vitters at 3rd, Keedy at 1st, Marwin Gonzalez up. Gonzalez grounds into a DP.
  3. I wouldn't be shocked if they tried to get him to be the 2nd lefty out of the pen for this season. That's the last thing I think they have in the plans for Hill. With his inconsistencies with location, he doesn't need to be changing roles at this point. As valuable as he could be in the rotation, they can't use him out of the pen IMO. I don't see what the rush to replace Cotts is all about. He has been very good out of the pen for us. I can see if they don't think Eyre will be healthy, but with Eyre and Cotts, we have a decent duo. Actually I'd rather replace Eyre than Cotts at this point.
  4. What kind of prospect is Nate Samson, SS, Peoria? He is hitting .300 as a 20 year old in A ball, which isn't all that bad, age/level wise. Not much pop, decent discipline. Seems like a contact guy. Seems a little bit like Theriot without the speed right now. He is 6'0, 170, so he could fill out and add some power I'm assuming...but does he have any upside or is he just a career minor leaguer? And how is his defense at SS...playable or will he have to move? Also, I'm confused, is he a RH hitter or a switch hitter, the Chiefs site has him as a switch hitter, but milb.com has him as a RH.
  5. We still have to look at it as if he's any other prospect. He'll only be 19 to start the season next year in Peoria, and if he goes a level per season, that'd put him in Daytona at 20, Tenn at 21, Iowa at 22, Big leagues at 23. That's a very conservative approach. I used to think he had to be moved quickly, but that will happen when his defense catches up to his bat.
  6. Hudson should be our target, if he really is available. He's the definition of what we need. Not too old, not locked down for too many years, and just a very consistent #1/#2 (better suited for a #2 role, IMO)
  7. Vitters is the first offensive prospect we've had in a while that excites me with his upside.
  8. He raised the AVG last night, so he had to work on the IsoD tonight.
  9. Since when do guys get beamed for going 3-3 in a Short Season game? That's pretty lame.
  10. He's more of a backup CI that could fill catcher in a pinch. That's kind of what I was thinking...I really don't want this team to bring back Blanco next year if we can fill the role of backup catcher from within the system. Oh well.
  11. If McGehee can hit enough, any way he makes the team as the backup catcher next year, or is he an the type that won't be able to handle it enough to play it even as a backup? Seems like he'd be a decent backup option until Castillo is ready.
  12. Yep, a missed catch on a stolen base attempt.
  13. Aramis isn't going anywhere any time soon and Vitters needs to work on his defense, and in the worst way. Let him stay in Boise. I'm just happy he's hitting somewhere. I guess an 18 year old hitting in short season ball isn't the worst thing in the world. I just would like to see one of our prospects actually MOVE through the system, instead of repeating levels each year.
  14. I can see the argument for both sides, but with a player like Vitters who was a top pick and a top hitting prospect the moment he was drafted, I would like to push him a little bit. I won't be disappointed if they let him hit .330 in Boise for a couple months just to let him get the confidence up, but you'd think if they were confident enough to start him in Peoria, they'd at least consider it after having success at Boise for a while. *IF he keeps hitting well at Boise*
  15. Pawelek is not good. Ridling is on fire. He needs to be in Peoria, as does Vitters.
  16. Castillo showed some flashes last year. As a 20 year old in full-season ball he hit 11 HRs with a .271/.334/.423 line in 317 ABs. But yes, his numbers at AA right now are amazing. If he manages to hit .300 the rest of the year at AA, he's going to move himself up the prospect charts quickly.
  17. His trade value is low. The risk that he'll never see the majors is high enough that pretty much every team won't part with a star player in order to get him. The possibility that he could turn out to be really good is evident enough that the Cubs would likely be smart to hang onto him for another year to see whether he is the real deal or not. In other words, I don't think he's going anywhere for the time being. Which is how it should be. He's the only hitter in our system at the time that looks to have any real upside, so they'd be smart to hang on to him until he's at least least played a couple seasons in the minors and gets close to the majors.
  18. Vitters is 1-3 with a triple (his 2nd of the season) so far, and it's 4-2 in the 6th or something like that.
  19. DNP Vitters now 2 for 3 with a double on the evening. His line as of the millisecond: .346/.393/.462/.855 What's his line now that he's 3-4 with 2 doubles? Haha it's so easy to get excited/disappointed based on small sample sizes, but Vitters could silence his critics a bit with a good showing at Boise.
  20. I'm just saying we're getting at least usable parts from our minors, which is really what you need to build a quality team for a decent price. Sure, we have to add some high price players, but having cheap bench players/role players is a big key, and we have at least 2 starters (Soto and Theriot) and quite a few role players (Hoffpauir, Patterson, Fontenot, Cedeno)
  21. That really is crazy...He was really young for his class. I hope he keeps hitting, the faster he moves, the better for us.
  22. I've liked what I've seen from Burke. He has good ABs, draws walks, plays a good OF, is sneaky fast, and has some pop. The only downside I've seen from him is a low batting average. It's a bit head-scratching that he has that problem, given his skillset. Nick Swisher, the Oakland version? Hopefully Vitters keeps hitting and can get back to Peoria at some point this year, as he'll only be 19 when the season ends.
  23. I'm not saying he's bad, and I'm not saying I wouldn't take him...but for a short term situation, I'd rather Murton just take the ABs than give up a prospect/prospects for a guy who has nowhere to play when Soriano gets back.
  24. Exactly, so what's the difference between Murton and Choo, especially if you overlook the SB differences... What I'm saying is, why trade for a LF for 6 weeks or so when you can plug Murton in and get relatively the same production without trading anything at all?
  25. It's not so much the success rate as it is the lack of attempts by Choo in his career. He's got 230 career ABs, and only 9 SB attempts, while he attempted 198 SBs in 2,230 ABs in the minors. So he averaged 1 SB attempt every 11.26 ABs in the minors...he's averaging 1 SB attempt every 25.67 ABs in the majors so far. Basically, the one area he would be a major upgrade over Murton in was his SBs, and he's running less than half as much so far in the majors, so that really doesn't help his cause.
