  1. He's the best 2b on our roster vs. RHs. .309/.408/.481 vs. LHs for DeRosa .290/.380/.558 vs. RHs for Fontenot Anyone else think a platoon would be a great idea? DeRosa can still get ABs vs RHs for Soriano, Fukudome, Ramirez, Lee, and maybe even Theriot (though I doubt that would happen at this point).
  2. I know he's not exactly a superstar prospect, but Samson keeps on hitting well. He's up to .312 with a .377 OBP and .379 SLG (his main downfall). He's only 20, too. He hit 3rd tonight. He's one of those guys who probably won't make any of our top prospect lists anytime soon, but he's a guy I'm finding myself checking boxscores for, for whatever reason. I think of him as a similar player to Theriot, but with potential for more pop down the road.
  3. :-k Here's to hoping they're boarding a flight for Peoria. Vitters just had a day off yesterday, so that could be...but Flaherty has been out of action for almost a week now.
  4. It's not completely unusual for a guy who's in only his second full season of really being dedicated to this sport to figure things out. He was a thrower before. He also played college football at one of the most prestigious programs in the nation. He was split between both, now that he's dedicated to pitching he is starting to figure things out. He's now struck out 40 in AAA compared to 44 in AA, while having less than half the innings he had at AA.
  5. If they were willing to go to an 11 man pitching staff, we could do it. With Marshall and Lieber both down there (assuming Cotts is replaced by Eyre, although that may not be right) I think we can get by for a month like that, but I don't see them going for it. I'd also say picking up a RH bat off the bench should be doable through waivers, especially since we can probably afford to take on a little bit of salary being as it would only be for a month or so. Just an interesting option, and I doubt that Washington would go for it...but Cristian Guzman is crushing LHs this year. .362/.381/.512. He's also a free agent after '08, but it might take more than usual to get him since he is an "all-star" this year.
  6. Cerda is more than holding his own for having just turned 18 before going to Mesa. .350/.438/.450/.888 7 BB, 6 K. I realize it's a very small sample size, but for an 18 year old to have more walks than K's, especially in our system, is impressive.
  7. Brenly 3-3, all singles. For being a solidly built guy, he's not much of a power hitter. His SLG is lower than his OBP.
  8. Still looking for news online but there's nothing in the Des Moines or Chicago media as of yet. Tomorrow would be his turn in Mesa, Friday would be his first chance in Iowa as the I-Cubs are on their all-star break till then. If we don't see his name in the box score for Mesa tomorrow, it would appear likely he'd come off Iowa's DL on Friday (we don't hear about Iowa Cubs transactions until the day off normally). It'd be great if the Chicago papers would pick up on Hill but I haven't see anything on Rich since his awful first start in the AZL. I've seen a mention of each of his last two starts in Tribune articles. The first saying he threw 4 scoreless, then the next saying he threw 5 shutout innings.
  9. Brenly another solidly hit single. 3-4. Rundle up. He moves Brenly to 2nd on a Sac Bunt. Sontag pinch hitting for Dwayne Kemp. Brenly to 3rd on a wild pitch. Sontag K's looking on a curve. Harrison up, Brenly at 3rd, 2 outs. Hits a grounder to 3b, the throw to first pulled the 1b off the bag, Harrison beats it out as the 1b dove bag to the bag with his glove. Brenly scores. Boise up 9-7.
  10. Bristow gives up his 3rd HR of the night. He can't keep the ball down. 8-7 Boise.
  11. Worth mentioning, probably not, but Marwin Gonzalez managed to foul a ball off his...well his junk...then walked. Macias scores on a passed ball with Burke at the plate. Burke K's. Boise up 8-6.
  12. Harrison caught between first and second on a pickoff throw, Rundle breaks for home, throw goes home, catcher drops it, Rundle scores, Harrison makes it to 3rd. Sloppy defense by Tri-City. Nice break for Boise. Harrison scores on an RBI single from Joshua Vitters. 3-4 tonight.
  13. Ground ball to SS, Kemp caught between 2nd and 3rd even though Rundle wasn't moving from 3rd. Harrison reaches on FC.
  14. Rundle is up. Reaches on an Error, 1b bobbled it a couple times and gave up on it. Kemp bunts, 3b launches the ball down the RF line, 2nd and 3rd nobody out on no hits, two errors for Tri-City.
  15. Bristow gives up another HR. 6-5, Tri-City lead.
  16. Harrison with a diving/leaping play in shallow right. Nice play.
  17. Gonzalez grounds to 3b, Burke pops out to SS. Brenly grounds out sharply to 3b.
  18. Brenly guns down a SB attempt, perfect throw, he's really puttin on a show for papa tonight. Vitters makes a nice play to his right, Keedy with a nice pick.
  19. Macias and Vitters both ground out to 3rd. Keedy K's looking. After 5, 5-2 Boise.
  20. Rundle is still only 20. With his two hits tonight he's 10-34 on the season with 3 doubles, a triple and 2 HRs. Avg over .290 as of right now. The announcer (and some guy he's talking to) think very highly of Burke's defense in RF.
  21. Rundle Homers to RF. 5-2 Boise. Rundle is 2-2 with a HR and triple. Welcome back Drew. Kemp K's again. Mighty might looking a little overmatched early on. However he IS facing a 1st round pick I believe. Harrison bunts for a hit. It was hit real hard to the 3rd baseman, but he beat it out. I'm starting to like this guy...he walked, he bunt for a hit, and he almost took one out to LF against a highly regarded pitcher. As I say that, Harrison gets picked off 1st.
  22. Burke flies out to left. Brenly singles to right. 2-2.
  23. Macias walks. Vitters singles on a line drive back up the middle. He is 2-2 with a double and single. 2 on for Keedy. *Some guy talking in the background must be checking the All-star game on his phone..."M. Holliday hit a HR for the NL...Mike Holliday or M. Holliday..." Keedy GIDP. Macias to 3rd. Gonzalez up. Grounds out to SS.
  24. Burke pops out. Brenly singles up the middle. He scores on Drew Rundle's RBI triple. Kemp K's. Rundle scores on a wild pitch/passed ball with Harrison up. 3-2 Boise. Harrison flies out to the wall in LF. End of 2. Boise up 3-2.
