  1. So if the Cubs were to take Casey Kelly, would he be playing SS or P initially? Very intriguing prospect, seems like more of a pure athlete...and a bit of a risk considering he really isn't a sure thing at SS (due to his bat) or on the mound (due to a lack of experience?)...plus he could be a tough sign having signed to play 2 sports at Tennessee.
  2. Good lord no. Thank you. DeJesus is basically Mark DeRosa as a LH OF. To give up Cedeno and Gallagher for him would be awful. Gallagher may end up as our #5 this year I'd say if we're going to trade for a better CF, at least make it someone who improves the team.
  3. So you mean we'll let a promising young player sit in AAA and tear it up there while we trade/sign for a overrated declining veteran? Does that mean Pie will be as good as Soto next year?
  4. I really don't know whether or not Edmonds is worth it...but I guess if we're not going to play Pie, Edmonds might as well be given a shot. He might show some life playing at Wrigley. He's got good career #s at Wrigley (power and OBP wise). He'd only face RHs...and he'd have a lot of support in the lineup around him. The thing I don't get is the desire to move Fukudome to the 2 spot...then Theriot is wasted hitting 8th? As much as I doubt that Theriot will keep it up, he's still hitting .333 with a .416 OBP through the first month and a half. If I was given the choice, I'd say no to Edmonds. Just not worth it...let Pie play.
  5. Do we have ANY hitters doing worth a darn in our system right now? I see a couple NRI types doing well in AAA (Torres and Blanco) and Jake Fox hitting for some good power. Doug Deeds hitting well, but he's 26 in AA. Daytona has some nice numbers, but the more legit prospects aren't hitting as well. Reed is hitting good so far, let's hope he's putting it together finally. Not really any standouts at Peoria. Let's hope some of these guys start getting hot.
  6. I think the Cubs may go with Cintron over Cedeno should it come down to it. Cintron has more experience, and he (attemps to) hits from both sides. Neither is amazing with the glove, so I think Cintron is going to beat Cedeno out based on the Spring Training Stats alone.
  7. Are you saying we are dumb for wanting these guys? Yeah, that's exactly it. Actually I was probably right on board with most of those guys (well Wilson and Giles were some I really liked). I just think it's interesting to consider that a couple of years ago, these were guys we (some of us) coveted and now they've fallen so far that they have to fight for a 40 man roster spot.
  8. Do you really think there is even a 1% chance of him becoming what he could have been? Corey has the worst plate discipline/strike zone judgement out of just about any player I have ever seen. Did you read the sentence after that? I just meant that'd be about the only positive to draw from it, from his perspective.
  9. This list is crazy to look at. So many of those players were suggested acquisitions for the Cubs over the past few years. Craig Wilson, Javy Lopez, Williamson (we actually got him), Gerut (another we got), Danny Kolb, Kielty, Victor Zambrano, Marcus Giles, Scott Podsednik. These are all guys I've heard in connection with the Cubs/Cubs fans being interested in within the past few years...amazing to think how much things can change in a few years.
  10. I'd be all for a gold glover with 50 SB potential...but he wouldn't come back to Chicago. The fans treated him like crap when he was here...would you come back if you were him? I know I wouldn't want to come back as the "bust" that Corey is and "block" the next great CF. Although it would be sweet to come back and become the player everyone thought you could and send that next great CF packing. Won't happen though.
  11. I realize you can't avoid having 2 LHs in a row if you have 3/5th LHs...I just don't like the idea of 3 in a row. And yes, I forgot to put Lieber in there. I don't know if he's much better than Marquis at this point though.
  12. If we lose Hill and Pie, no way. If we just lose Pie, that's fine. Zambrano, Bedard, Lilly, Marquis, Hill (just to break up the LHs). Filthy.
  13. Good deal for guys like Ceda, Castillo, and Donaldson. Colvin too.
  14. I'm not a huge fan of adding Bedard with Hill and Lilly already penciled in. If we have to lose Pie, Marmol, and guys like Gallagher/Colvin, it's a big hit to our system. I'd rather go after a decent RH starter and stand pat on the 2b spot with DeRosa. If anything, add a SS to allow Theriot to play 2b if DeRosa has to move around.
  15. It's on Fox Chicago 9:00 news...a little teaser before the break..."Breaking Baseball News..." blah blah blah. WOOT \:D/
  16. Kerry's been my favorite player since his rookie year when I was just 10 years old. I really don't want to see him go, but if he can get more money and a better shot at winning somewhere else (aka Boston), I would not blame him a bit. I would blame the Cubs for not offering him what he wants though...we can give Neifi Perez and Hank Blanco two+ year deals, but won't do it for Kerry? That's insulting...
  17. Hendry's got a quota to meet. Plus this way, the Orioles don't have to sign a 2b for the next 5 years, we'll just keep trading them guys like Bynum.
  18. Maybe the media is messing with us, knowing Jim Hendry's love for having 18 2b on the roster at one time.
  19. Relax guys...while he isn't the best option, he's not the worst either. I'm sure if we were to get Jenkins for RF, it'd be a Murton/Jenkins platoon.Murton can hit LHs, and Jenkins has some LH pop. He was also a much better hitter in day games last year (.303/.349/.563 in 142 AB) If we can get Jenkins on a 1-2 year deal for less than 10 mil (total, not per), I'll take a Jenkins/Murton platoon. I think I'd honestly rather have Murton take all the ABs, but Hendry/Piniella seem dead set on having a LH bat in this lineup, despite the fact that we struggle more with LHs than RHs anyways.
  20. And Ronny has more upside. He's at least got a little pop and he can make the spectacular plays on defense.
  21. Oh I'm fine with the idea of getting a better SS than Ronny/Ryan...but I'd rather have Ronny in there. He has more potential at least. He's got better tools I guess. And he's younger, and more productive at AAA.
  22. Compared to what we're getting from Theriot? I like the riot, but he just didn't bring his game consistently this year. He had a great month when we were hot, and he was definitely a spark then. If Soriano continues to lead off, DeRosa should be hitting 2nd, not 5th/6th. That's why we need to figure out a decent option for RF who can hit in the middle of the order. Cedeno will not hurt us hitting 8th behing Soto.
  23. Ronny Cedeno. Except he should be starting. Agreed. Theriot is a great utility player (2b, SS, 3b, OF) but I am not sure if I want him in the lineup full time next year. Unless we can land ARod, Cedeno should get another chance at the SS job. If he stumbles again, we have Theriot's sub .700 OPS waiting for us on the bench. At least Ronny has some pop.
