  1. How is it for the best? So we can pick Chase Budinger next June? Yay? at least we have a shot at getting somebody good. it worked out pretty well last year. what is the upside of winning at this point? what chance is there of something good coming out of it? sneaking in the playoffs and getting embarrassed by boston/cleveland/orlando? sounds fun. Well I wouldn't count on making a huge move in the lottery. Last year was an aberration, obviously. I'd rather make it as a low seed and get waxed by a powerhouse then draft at the bottom of the lottery. At least Rose would get a taste of playoff basketball. I guess that's where we differ. I'm interested in winning a championship or at least going deep into the playoffs and having something to get excited for. That team is going to offer neither or those things this year. I mean, how fun were the playoffs for the Cubs the last 2 years? I'm not saying they'd luck out into a top pick.... they wouldn't have to. Any lottery pick would bring us closer to winning a championship than a meaningless playoff appearance. You make it seem like the Bulls don't get a draft pick if they make the playoffs. If they squeeze in as a low seed the pick will only be marginally higher than what they would get as a playoff team.

  3. lol, Tyrus "Larry Bird" Thomas from way down town!
  4. Freakin' Dirk. Should've had this one.
  5. Really good game coming down the stretch here. A W would cap off a really nice road trip.
  6. There's your marine biologist reference. "The sea was angry that day...like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli."
  7. I bet Jared Lorenzen isn't taking PEDs. If you change the wording to 'never used', then you probably lose your bet. They pretty much all use something. What do you mean by "something"? Just because something is a supplement doesn't mean it's in some sort of legal gray area. And I would dispute the notion that they pretty much all did something that was either illegal, would become illegal, or could loosely be defined as a PED.
  8. It's very possible (likely?) that the majority of guys who used steroids will never be fingered in the way players were in the Michell Report, BALCO investigation, books, and other media reports. That could change if a bunch of positive tests are unsealed or revealed ala ARod. That being said, it's still a little surprising that Sosa hasn't really come up in any of this given that he's right up there with Bonds, McGwire, and Clemens as inviting targets to out. But I still think he did 'em.
  9. I bet Jared Lorenzen isn't taking PEDs.
  10. Little more information on the Amare situation: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3890478 Stein reports that the Bulls and Heat are the two teams most seriously going after Stoudemire. Get it done Pax!
  11. They have plenty of capable perimeter players although none are close to Durant's ceiling. If Oden can come close to fulfilling his potential he's a much better fit for the Blazers. Between Roy, Outlaw, Fernandez, Bayless, Batum, Webster, et. al. they already have a glut of combo guard and swingmen types.
  12. USF beat Marquette :!:
  13. Somehow I don't think the Blazers envy OKC's position too much.
  14. He's also one of most efficient offensive players in NBA history. There's little to hate about his offensive game. He has range to 18 feet, gets to the line a lot (and is now an 80%+ shooter there), and he shoots an exceptionally high percentage. His TS% and eFG% numbers are off the charts. He also plays better in the playoffs. I have questions about him too and his defense is a significant flaw. But I have a lot more confidence in him being at least an average defender than I do about Noah or Thomas being average offensive players. Plus his offense is just that good where you live with subpar defense.
  15. I'm pleased with Thomas right now too but he is far from the point where he should be considered a stumbling block in a potential Amare deal.
  16. 52/10/11 for LeBron at MSG tonight. That's just sick.
  17. Damnit. Maybe we can steal a win in Pauley tonight and end this (relatively) crappy day on a high note.
  18. Jumping all over the CP3-less Hornets in the first quarter. Offense looks amazing so far.
  19. I'm a bit concerned that Te'o is going to technically be eligible for the draft after only 1 year with the Irish (he plans to leave the team for 2 years after his first year and then come back), but there's almost no way he'll jump to the NFL after a 2 year layoff so the team should have him for at least 2 years and hopefully more. He'd be recruitable again when he comes back, no? That's how UCLA got Ben Olson a few years ago. And how well that worked out for them!
  20. Kirkpatrick just announced for Bama.
  21. Nice get for UCLA. I was just reading that he may delay his commitment to see if his high school coach got a coaching position at Utah.
  22. Randle to LSU.
  23. Jarvis Jones to USC per Rivals. That takes the sting off Te'o and Burfict a bit.
  24. The New York Times has an eye-opening article about Bryce Brown and his handler Brian Butler. Guy sounds like a real piece of work but I guess that's the nature of recruiting. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/04/sports/ncaafootball/04recruit.html?pagewanted=1&hp
  25. Whoever is teaching Derrick Rose how to play man to man defense needs to be fired. I actually thought he was one of the better defensive guards in the draft (at least average) after Westbrook and Mayo but he's a freakin turnstile out there. He leans forward, get zero knee bend, and cannot move laterally quick enough from that position. I'm thinking they're trying to teach him team defensive principles first and foremost but at this point he can at least use his athleticism to keep guys out of the lane. Oh well--frustrating loss but the Rockets are a good team and the Bulls just had no answer for Yao or Scola.
