  1. I'm sure Plaschke will put his neck on the line because of innuendo received from a "reporter" at the reputable Volsbitch.com
  2. I don't know what you would've seen in the last month or so that would make you doubt Rose "being the man." He's still not there yet but he's definitely taken a lot more responsibility. He's way more aggressive and selfish (in a good way) now. When he starts getting calls and maybe a serviceable 3 pointer he'll be deadly. I can see where you might think he won't be the unquestioned alpha dog on a championshiop caliber team but he's definitely a 1a type more than a second fiddle.
  3. I'm more surprised at McGwire taking steroids than I am at SSR nerd raging against Mark Grace.
  4. Yeah, he is similar to Curry. Although when he first started turning heads he was showing way more potential than Curry did as a rebounder, shot blocker, etc. And then he got hurt the first time and he hasn't really been that way since.
  5. Without delving into Toronto's cap situation my kneejerk reaction is that I'd rather let Bosh walk than take on Bynum's contract. I'm not really high on Bynum. He has a very nice post game, in theory. But he doesn't want to do anything that centers are supposed to do and he's injury prone. He's not a guy that shuts down the paint like he should be. Doesn't like to rebound much either.
  6. Kirk's been pretty good since moving into the starting line up. Salmons too.
  7. I just assume Charles is loaded any time I see him on TV. Bulls should be able to win tonight with the Celtics on a back to back and injured. Looks like they have no legs.
  8. Is Mike Riley a bigger name to USC fans than Lane Kiffin? I'm not even sure that Jeff Fisher and Jack Del Rio are bigger names than Lane Kiffin to many USC fans. Lot of 'em don't even follow the NFL. Kiffin's name is obviously a lot bigger than what his accomplishments on the field dictate but his name recognition among SC fans is sky high.
  9. To be honest, The Voice of Reason is the only Trojan fan I have seen who is actually happy with the hire. In fact, a few I know actually are even more upset/disappointed than when they found out Carroll was leaving. You're totally high if you don't think the majority of SC fans are happy with the staff that's being brought in and the ability to salvage/improve the recruiting class. Given the circumstances, it's being received as a pretty damn good hire. It's a calculated risk obviously with Kiffin being unproven as a head coach and the baggage that comes along with him and losing out on Chow sucks but I'd say most are happy. There's zero question that the reaction is orders of magnitude more positive than when Carroll was initially hired.
  10. So you found a couple good offensive plays from the quarter and a half of competent offensive football ND played against USC while Mays was there.
  11. Ron Turner's looking for a job.
  12. Every Raider fan I've ever talked to wanted Kiffin to stay on board and thought he was making progress when Davis canned him.
  13. Duke can hire HBC.
  14. Muschamp would be a home run considering the circumstances.
  15. Why isn't Leach a realistic target?
  16. http://i47.tinypic.com/148ksw1.gif
  17. Tennessee could turn this screw one more time by hiring Sarkisian and Holt away from UDub.
  18. http://www.conquestchronicles.com/2010/1/12/1248524/breaking-norm-chow-coming-back-to Chow is back too, allegedly. That's a fuckin' coup right there.
  19. Wow, I'm stunned.
  20. Mooch hasn't coached in 5 years. That's a long time to be out of the game.
  21. He's a very physical safety but he's not constantly around the ball like Berry. Some of that is instincts and in that regard he is nowhere near a Polamalu or Berry type. The guy is lined up 20+ yards down the field on every play. You'd think he would've been moved around a lot given his athleticism and used in a lot of different packages but no he was definitely a last line of defense kind of guy almost his entire career. When Kevin Ellison was here he was the one that Carroll would move around. I can't complain too much because it worked, for the most part, but Mays was never the guy that was going to accumulate a lot of stats in college, just wasn't his job.
  22. I saw a lot of tape this year showing him more timid and really not tackling well at all. Did you see this and if so, do you know why? Sure, it happened. The defense was down this year. The linebackers were consistently destroyed at the point of attack and Mays had to be the last line of defense. Obviously things were easier when he had Cushing, Maualuga, and Matthews in front of him taking on blockers and ball carriers. When you lose all 3 things go in the crapper. The linebacking play was really, really poor this year and it hurt the whole team. Even so, it's not like teams were bombing SC up and down the field. They were churning out long, sustained drives and eating clock and that's worse a lot of the time.
  23. I'm not really upset about losing out on Aldridge as I am about Thomas being such a knucklehead. There's a devastatingly effective player somewhere in there. Aldridge is just another guy, IMO. Now Brandon Roy would've been nice.
  24. I'm just saying there was some slight misfortune on missing out on the really good draft classes like 2003. Lots of getting the 4th pick in a 3 player draft, that sorta thing. Obviously there were some huge missteps as well. The 2000 draft was legitimately atrocious (maybe the worst of all time), 2001 was pretty bad, 2002 was fairly brutal, 2003 they had the 7th pick in probably the greatest top 6 ever (outside of Darko of course), 2004 they actually did well, no pick in 05, 2006 is looking like a bust but is otherwise a crappy draft. 07-09 look promising.
  25. And some bad luck. The Bulls got high picks in some pretty crappy drafts. Plus the whole Jay Williams thing.
