It's more about demonstrating/teaching someone how to be a professional. Jordan came from a very structured, resource-rich college program while Pippen was playing in some backwoods, rural program with no real coaching or development structure. Obviously the freakishly long arms and athleticism helps too. But he was definitely raw.
We were 4 minutes and change from ending back to back World Cups on what are approximate coin flips. I think it's a problem. And if you play until someone scores then the better conditioned team would have an advantage. I think that's more in the nature of sport than something like penalty kicks.
Weren't the Dutch on a 25 match unbeaten streak coming into the Final? And Spain was like 25 out of its last 27? I don't think there are as many flukes happening as you'd think.
In David Halberstam's MJ book (which is a great if not sycophantic read) he talks about how all the guys on the Dream Team coaching staff thought that Pippen was clearly the 2nd best player on the team.
Are we still talking about Ronnie Brewer? We could use a cheap, defensive stopper on the bench. I don't want to start him though. BTW, the Bulls got blown out today in their Summer League game. I didn't see any viable players outside of Johnson who looked ok and slimmed down.
The people who are picked to design and build Wrigley's successor are going to have all the resources they want to design a great park no? This isn't like replacing Candlestick Park or Veteran's Stadium. They're gonna have every great architect salivating over the prospect of building the new Cubs stadium. I'm sure it'll work out just fine.
So what kind of (regular) season can we realistically expect? Bottom half of the West? Should I invest in the NHL package? I want to watch a lot of games next year.
Well those teams have to worry about stopping James, Wade, and Bosh. Seriously if they get Shaq in there that'll be plenty. Girthy legit 7 footers who can give 6 hard fouls if necessary. That's all they need.
Doesn't look like too many moon shotters in this years lineup. This is where I want to see roid monsters hitting 500+ foot bombs. Ah, the halcyon days of the early 00s when Sammy was hitting 520+ foot bombs at Turner Field and no one broached the subject of PEDs.
If they get a semi legit center they'll be in business. Don't go there Brad... Haslem, Miller, Chalmers, that's not great but it's probably good enough. They just need to avoid the Jannero Pargo types getting big minutes.
When the Blackhawks were facing an insurmountable 2-1 series lead I remember Hjalmarsson getting a lot of flak. Or was that game 4 that he had those giveaways?
I don't know if I would agree with that. Though I am pulling for all three of them to need microfracture surgeries by November. Bosh is the one who is really annoying me now. You're not that good. You don't play defense, you've never really been a key in a meaningful game and you were a dick to Toronto. Plus your eyes are set really far apart and your head has an odd shape. Depending on the day I think you either look like a half-alien or just some really, really dumb guy. Stan Van Gundy nailed it. I'm just comparing him to guy's like Jordan and Kobe. He relies so much on his overwhelming athleticism. It won't be there forever. When MJ lost a step or two and some of his hops you saw him operate out of the post. Kobe is obviously a much more perimeter oriented player now and has been for a few years. Lebron's an improved shooter but he's not that great at it yet. And he still hasn't developed a post game which sorta baffles me. He'd be unstoppable on the block.
