  1. Marc Stein said it'd be Kobe which is probably just as dumb.
  2. Some nut on ESPN predicted that Jared Sullinger would be the best NBA player of this decade.
  3. How much of that lack of productivity/efficiency is actually Cutler's fault? Especially last year. All those QBs you mentioned have MUCH better surrounding players than what Cutler has now and probably what he had in Denver. Marshall is the only offensive player that stands out to me who played with Cutler in Denver. A lot of it. The guy makes a lot of bonehead errors. He did it in Denver when he had good receivers and the best pass protection in football (although not to the extent he did last season). I've been driving the Bears WRs stink bandwagon for over a year now but saying Cutler doesn't shoulder a large amount of the blame for his play last year is pure revisionist history. If you can watch Cutler and then watch a game where those other QBs I mentioned and say this guy is nearly as accurate and smart with the football as them...you're delusional.
  4. Maybe on the eye test. As for actual productivity/efficiency, no. It's not close.
  5. You also want an offense that can dictate the tempo, control the clock, and protect leads. Scoring points is great and critical but you can always system your way to putting up points if you have even a little bit of talent. It's kinda like Texas Tech in college football. They'll always have big numbers but it's hard for them to win games against great opponents because they're one dimensional and can't control the clock when they need to. I know, i wish we had a type offense that went to 2 Super Bowls and won one. Wait we do. Tech's defense has historically sucked and the 2009 Arizona Cardinals and 2010 Saints and Colts didnt run the ball either. Running is only important in short yardage situations. If it was as easy as systeming your way to points the Jets should go to that and blow through the league this year. The Saints were one of the best running teams in football last year. Also, Cutler isn't on the same planet as Brees or Manning (or Rodgers, Rivers, Brady, etc) so he needs a better running attack behind him than those type of guys. It'd help a lot...especially if we could get in the end zone on the run rather than let him brain fart the football away.

  7. I missed the Bears/Raiders game and then the first repeat but for some reason I woke up at like 4 AM and saw the first half on NFL Network. Even in my blearly eyed state it's impossible to overstate how bad Chris Williams was.
  8. That Rice injury is great news for the Bears. With Harvin's head being all messed up that should pull them closer to the rest of the division.
  9. Prediction: The idea that Rondo is a better player than Rose will look completely laughable after this season. I mean it already is but I can see why you would be duped (kinda).
  10. I'm not sure UT-Bama registers as a big rivalry outside of SEC country...although it sure would've been nice if the Vols woulda beat them last year. UT-Florida was huge, though, especially in the Spurrier years when UT was also a national power. I remember it being the first, enormous game of the year because it's usually in September. For awhile it also seemed like the first SEC nationally televised night game and those are always big. I specifically remember Alex Brown owning UT singlehandedly one season.
  11. Is Sammy really a pariah in Chicago? If he showed up somewhere in Chicago not looking like a zombie I feel like he'd be warmly received, for the most part.
  12. Bears sign UDFA Aaron Webster. He's a safety. Probably need the depth with Wright and Steltz being hurt and Afalava being Afalava.
  13. Zah-Vee-A Henry still hasn't signed with the Grizzlies and is apparently being shopped. Who wants to drive the dumpster truck full of blood money up to Memphis to pry him away?
  14. Percy Harvin collapsed at practice and had to be taken away in an ambulance: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp10/news/story?id=5476849 He's a great talent but wow, he has some health problems.
  15. Wells: ERA 4.44 FIP 3.80 xFIP 3.96/ 6.99 K/9, 2.8 BB/9/ 2.7 WAR He's really not been below average. FIP and xFIP have him well above average. Z has also been pretty underrated this year. He's not been worth his contract by any stretch, but his xFIP is better than it was in 2007, his K/9 is higher than it's been since 2006 and his BABIP is higher than it's been in his entire career. He's pitched ok this year. Gorzo is a young pitcher who's been decent this year and has strong minor league numbers. There's really no reason to think he can't be at least decent next year, if not better. As a team, the Cubs' pitchers are 11th in the majors in WAR. That's well above average and close to very good. The Cubs' starters are 12th in the majors in xFIP. It's not going to be a dominant staff, but it'll be good enough next year to not shell out $18+ mil over 4 years for a 32 year old Cliff Lee. Isn't Cliff Lee the kind of pitcher that seems like he would age pretty gracefully? And 11th in WAR is well above average? It's certainly above average but where does it rank among contenders? Isn't that the baseline scenario?
  16. Probably not but if you're in the hunt lateish in the season and Cutler goes down you have to make that call. He already knows the offense.
  17. You know Kurt Warner's gotta be right at the top of the list if the Bears are in contention if/when Cutler goes down.
  18. Wright loves to stick his nose in on run support. He was a bright spot against San Diego.
  19. Matthews is gonna put up big numbers this year.
  20. It's the fullback but I forget his name. Something Samoan. Devin A! Strong hands baby. Edit: I forgot that full back is randomly filtered on here.
  21. At least we're getting 2 yards a carry as opposed to -1. Those were drive killers last year.
  22. Dump it off you goober.
  23. Yeah Rivera's been dialing up a lot of those corner blitzes and they keep working.
  24. Chester has some shake. Maybe he can give some to Forte.
