    Do you guys believe that we could've had Melo if we forked over Noah? I didn't really read anything that made it seem like it was THAT close. I'm a bit surprised about Melo agreeing to an extension. I don't think that Nets team will be good for awhile without Favors and Harris.

    Bucks will be nasty if Bogut comes back healthy and Jennings doesn't have a 4 month shooting slump.

    The NFC East may not be either if the Cowboys and Giants don't rebound. An 0-3 team will need to really start playing, but can still get a wild card spot potentially. I thought I heard that 0-3 teams only make the playoffs like 2-3% of the time. Could Tavaris be the better QB right now and give Minnesota a better chance at getting to the playoffs? That's because most 0-3 teams are horrible. The Vikings are probably a 'good' 0-3 if it came to that (they should beat Detroit though). It'd still be long odds but higher than 2-3% if that is indeed the probability. As for Jackson, who knows. He's looked good at times.

    Their season wouldn't be over. The division title is probably out of reach (not completely) but they could get in the hunt for a wild card with one decent hot streak. It's not like the NFC West is gonna be sending more than 1 playoff team.

    I don't see how Noah and Favors are at all similar. Here's one way they are: Neither will ever be a top 5 player in the league. Nor is Melo.

    It's being reported that Melo is pushing for a deal to be completed before training camp opens next week and that the Bulls are a close second behind the Knicks of teams that his camp is pushing for. The Bulls are trying to build a deal without including Noah (pipe dream).

    obviously he was capable, because if it was real it would have done damage. You don't have to be suave, discreet and highly intelligent to cause a lot of damage. It would seem like getting your hands on a real, functioning bomb is like 99% of the equation here. Not hard at all. A lot harder than walking to a trash can.

    I'm looking at some YouTube videos and no one throws the intermediate route like Cutler, especially when his feet aren't set. But Aaron Rodgers throws deep balls on a line that are just incredible: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k67Dfk8G23U Look at the throw around the 1:00 mark.

    I'm surprised you guys think Rex is close to Cutler on arm strength at all. I don't think it's close. Cutler and Stafford are tops in the league, IMO. Rodgers has a rifle too.

    http://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/punt_yds_per_punt_career.htm Maynard is 93rd on the all time list of punt yards per kick. He's behind 31 active punters on that list. 4 out of the top 5, 6 out of the top 10, 11 out of the top 20 are active punters.

    It seems to me that he often has a major stinker of a game, and then will correct things and do better. Of course he's also older and has had some health issues, so maybe he can't any longer, but I'm going to assume he gets it straightened out soon. Maynard's only value for the last few years has only been in his ability to put the ball inside the 20. Been in the bottom 1/4 of the league in avg and net the last 4 years (including the 2 games this year), yet has finished top 10 in punts inside the 20 all 4 years. Because Lovie always punts inside enemy territory. True. But Maynard clearly has his niche. You probably have to find a punter before 2011, but it's on the bottom of the list of things to do. He puts it in the 20 but I don't really think he puts it inside the 5 very often. I could be wrong but I just don't remember him getting those great knockdown punts that die close to the goal line. Plus he's just not ever a big boomer. He's had a fine career but there should be better options out there. Anecdotally, I think the quality of NFL punters has gotten a lot higher in recent years.

    Boy I would love to ruin the Cowboys season before it gets properly started. This would go a long way towards that. Apropos of the point I'm constantly making about how the media is obsessed with Dallas: On one of ESPN's stupid Coors light segments they were talking about what the Cowboys needed to do to beat the Bears as if they were playing the Bills or some crap. I can only imagine the caterwauling if we beat them.

    I'm really surprised that there are so few little leaguers and so many peewee football players. Maybe when the concussion literature starts trickling down to the soccer moms they'll start yanking their kids out of football.

    I have to believe that little league has greater participation than any other sports activity in the country but I'm too lazy to look it up. High school and college football are definitely kings of the school based sports though. Remember like 5-10 years ago when people would peddle the theory that NASCAR was bigger than football? Whatever happened to that kookery? It was never true but you heard it everywhere.

    I would say it's indirectly related at least. Allows for more spontaneous trips to the ballpark or planning certain times of the year around games you'd like to see. It's like something you can mark off on your social calendar repeatedly throughout the year. Baseball attendance is pretty good considering how many games there are. And if you want to talk about how popular the sport is rather than how popular the league is, then I can entertain the idea that baseball is somewhat competitive with football given how many people play it. The NFL is the most popular LEAGUE though, no doubt. The NBA probably has the biggest individual stars.
