  1. the lakers effort is just bad Go cle
  2. Why is that? I thought those guys who get their football scholies pulled can still in stay in school? If they can't, then yeah, I totally agree that's wrong. If they get to stay in school, but have to make up pay for the rest of their degree in some fashion, well I don' see that as that big an issue.
  3. That's probably because it would be near impossible to quantify. If I got a music scholarship and it turned out I couldn't play the notes properly I don't think I'd have a reasonable expectation for staying on scholarship either. These blue chip recruits are majoring in football. The academics are a facade so they can keep their cartel operating.
  4. Someone still needs to explain to me the material difference between a student being pulled from academic scholarship for failing academically and a football player being pulled from athletic scholarship for failing athletically and why the former is ok and the latter should outrage me.
  5. Brooks is pretty dumb
  6. Like Collison and Ibaka
  7. This GSW/OKC game is really good. GSW has taken nearly 40 more field goal attempts and is up by 1 with about a minute to go.
  8. I was trolling the guys in the thread a bit. But the fact that Weber and Zook are still gainfully employed leads me to believe that the alumni and fan base aren't holding the decision makers feet sufficiently to the fire. No reason at all to make uninspired trash hires like Zook in the first place and no reason to keep Weber around. From what the Illinois fans say it doesn't even seem like they're on the warm seat. That's [expletive] dumb.
  9. I was talking about being kicked off your scholarship, not kicked out of school. The GPA requirements to remain on academic scholarship are a lot higher than the requirements to remain in school right? Are these guys being taken off football scholarship removed from the campus entirely? Or are they allowed to stay in school provided their GPA is where it needs to be? It'd be wrong to kick the guy out of school. Making him pay for the rest of his degree is not something I find all that egregious. If you're getting booted off football scholarship you're not gonna make it as a pro anyway.
  10. And we all know grades and GPAs are calculated in a consistent, uniform fashion for all students. Honestly, with how much B.S. and cheating goes on in a college class room I'm not exactly going to say GPAs is a fairer way of measuring academic performance than a coach's evaluation is in measuring athletic performance. There's less of a gray area though. In any case, it should be incumbent on the team to make sure the athlete is putting in the time and work and has the help available to make sure completing the degree is worth it even if the scholarship is lost.
  11. There's always a group of students in any class that are going to be the worst too.
  12. Could you imagine being some 18-year-old kid who's getting ready to move into the dorm and then being told you couldn't move in, and that your scholarship wasn't being offered to you anymore? Yeah, that's some [expletive] and something has to be done about it. Sounds like Big Slick has a bigger problem with the upper classmen having their schollies taken away, which I have absolutely no issues with. They are year-to-year grants in aid that are based on athletic ability, and if you're not good enough to maintain one, I don't see why any coach should be forced to keep offering them to you. However, I do think that if a coach signs more freshmen than he can feasibly get into school, he should face some sort of penalty for it. Not exactly sure what would be fair, but I agree that coaches who sign freshmen and then make them greyshirt or something else are reprehensible. I'd love to see the NCAA step in and set firm rules on this and punish offending institutions (by taking away one scholarship per oversigning?) These are student-athletes. You might as well pay the players a salary if you're going to treat them specifically as athletes and take away their scholarships if they aren't the athlete you thought they were. These kids are students first and foremost, and I think they have a right to finish out their degrees if they were given a scholarship. It's too much of a business. What's the difference between pulling a scholie for not maintaining a high enough GPA and pulling a scholie for not playing well enough? I mean really, these guys are students of football (especially at top tier programs that consistently put guys in the pros) as much as the guy in the engineering school is a student of engineering.
  13. Gil is a corpse at this point. Boy he sucks.
  14. This is the best the league has ever been as a whole, IMO.
  15. Because he played at Purdue. Are you serious with this? I also wouldn't want him. He runs the same type of system that makes me want to poke my eyes out with a stick and soon will be going through what we are as his recruiting has sucked. Ok Brad Stevens then
  16. All right, give me a reason the Illini couldn't get Matt Painter if they went all out for him
  17. That wouldn't be gentlemanly.
  18. Imagine if you had 3 of the top 8 or so players in the country. Yeah, that'd be nice.
  19. Our last 3 hires, two were great. So yeah of course we will hire poorly. Kruger coaches at UNLV (LAS VEGAS!) and everyone knows Bill Self is a big cheater. Illinois will hire a distinguished leader of men type.
  20. Illinois will make an inspired hire like Tommy Amaker
  21. Weber and Zook would've never survived if Illinois' had its sights set properly.
  22. Well you guys exude it then. No reason at all that Illinois can't be an elite program. None.
  23. Practically every damn Illinois game is on national TV and you nerds talk about the team like they're some midmajor that can only aim for Sweet 16s once in awhile.
  24. Not really. There was that report of the Bulls being interested in Anthony Parker, but there hasn't been a whole lot besides that. I'll take a 3-2 trip. The last two games have been fun to watch against pretty good teams. Except the report about interest in Lee (which pretty much all the local beat guys indicate is true - they've been scouting the hell out of him), the reports of interest in Mayo (but Memphis's asking price being too high - which may or may not be the case after the suspension), and the reports of interest in Smith. The Lee thing is the only trade I've seen that actually tossed out what the Bulls would be giving out. Dealing for Mayo and Smith makes sense on paper but I never saw what the Bulls would give up besides what fans thought it might take.
