  1. The Boston Celtics: Steroid cheats
  2. I think getting a real 2 guard that can handle the ball, shoot the 3, and defend gets us most of the way there. The Bulls probably have the smallest margin for error among all the contenders because of what you talk about--no elite second player.
  3. WARP, PER, WS82, WS/48 work for you, then? Not really. Numbers are nice but just because baseball has been boiled down to an equation doesn't mean basketball stats are nearly as descriptive. Melo's easily more than "not very valuable" So what you're saying is you like numbers until they disagree with you, and then they are useless to you. Hell, there are even numbers that suggest that Melo's value this year is less than Billups'. The primary reason all these metrics are valuing Carmelo so low is that his sole value is in his shooting, and he hasn't done that well this year. Thus the reference to his TS%. Rather than look solely at this year, though, I thought it'd be fairer to look at his projections over the next 3 years, as he's quite certainly having an off year this year. To see him behind so many players in WARP projections is odd, which is why I don't consider him a top 10 player. Top 25, sure, but not top 10. Well sorta. I'm certain he's a better player than he's shown this year with the trade rumors hanging over everything. That's also why I never was all that worried about his lack of defense when he was floated to the Bulls. Thibs can get anyone with his tools to play passable D, IMO.

  5. I think they'll get someone. If I had to guess it would be Anthony Parker or Courtney Lee.
  6. No one is saying he's a crappy player. Just disputing the commonly cited idea that he's a top 10 player. Oh I think he's comfortably in the upper half of the 10-20 range. That's pretty valuable.
  7. Hollinger's an idiot.
  8. Melo's been the best player on a team that's won 50+ games in a tough conference the last three seasons. Reflexively pointing at TS% is lazy.
  9. those buzz tweets are hilarious moar
  10. I'll get worried if Melo and Amare gel well. I'd probably have a mental breakdown if we lost to the Knicks in the first round.
  11. You don't want too much grace or you won't be able to stand.
  12. I see. You raise some good points. So what do you think we should do about the SG situation?
  13. RealGM is talking about the Celtics looking at Prince or Battier.
  14. None of that is a reason why they wouldn't buy him out.
  15. The Pistons are on the hook for Rip for over 26 million for the next two seasons after this. For a guy that's not even playing on a team that isn't going anywhere I don't see why an ownership change would preclude buying him out. Enlighten me.
  16. Where are people getting this and why does it keep getting repeated? They're in the middle of trying to sell the franchise. It's not happening. I haven't looked into it that much. Are they really going to DNP-CD Rip from here until the end of his contract? I don't see anyone picking up that contract any time soon.
  17. But as thin and small as they'll be, Billups/Fields/Melo/Amare/Turiaf is definitely dangerous if they gel right.
  18. I don't like it for the Knicks because they could've had Melo in the offseason for nothing but $. I mean, was he REALLY going to sign an extension in Denver? Now they've given up a couple solid pieces and have no picks for a long time.
  19. Did you not get the memo? Gallo is a 6'10" Larry Bird.
  20. The theory is that the Pistons buy him out and anyone can scoop him up for practically nothing.
  21. He tried to write some arty sports piece like he was John Updike or some [expletive] and failed miserably.
  22. Well this should get the ball rolling on minor moves from now until the deadline. Do we wait on a buyout for someone like Rip or get a 2 with a package built around Gibson or Asik? I'm starting to like the idea of getting Rip.
  23. Is Billups gonna play for NY or what? That's a dangerous team.
  24. Well there you go.
  25. Wow, that GQ article would look completely incoherent and rambling in a college newspaper.
