  1. Oh my god this dog [expletive] team is going to win the World Series again
  2. Nice range at first there by Young
  3. UCLA vs. Arizona Pac-12 tickle fight tonight
  4. Hoyer was really good about batting down idiot sports talk radio hosts and callers. They would not stop bitching about Petco being such a pitcher's park.
  5. And it didn't take him all that long to do that. When did he get hired? Fall 2009? But it wasn't because of drafting. He did get two really good packages in the Gonzalez and Mike Adams trades, though.
  6. Typing up a manifesto for erik
  7. Is it weird that C.C. is your friend's dad
  8. Theo needs to be screened for Tay-Sachs
  9. *sigh* Moorad and Ricketts are buddies. Moorad loves Byrnes. Therefore, Moorad will not stand in the way of Hoyer coming to the Cubs, thereby allowing him to promote Byrnes to GM. Your annoyance by my very existence is amusing to me. This forum must amuse the hell out of you then. pages late but LOL
  10. I'm hearing that the reason Moorad would let Hoyer walk in the first place is because he loves Byrnes. I think we get one but not both and probably Hoyer.
  11. Does that not sound like something Epstein would desire given what we know about him and his past? Yeah, definitely. I'm sure Hoyer has worked just as hard but he hasn't banked the good will like Theo has. The glory will go to Theo just as much whether his title is President of Baseball ops or GM at this point.
  12. Yes. Taking the most backward organization in the majors and turning it into the most advanced is a part-time job. If he's outsourcing all the day to day baseball duties to the GM it sure gets a lot closer to it. Guys like Epstein get to these positions because they're super smart and work 18 hour days, if he goes to 12 hour days because someone like Hoyer is taking on all the traditional duties of a GM it'll feel like a part time job in comparison. In any case, I don't think it's just a titular distinction. Epstein will be in the trenches doing the nitty gritty to some degree I imagine.
  13. I don't think Theo can productively fill his day only plotting strategy about how to negotiate with the Pujolses of the world and figuring out how to trade for the aces that come along every so often.

  15. I never said there wasn't a threshold where it would be worth it. If Palmer plays amazing and the Raiders win the Super Bowl, then the trade looks great. But that's the same thing as saying if Soriano comes close to replicating his 2006 season on average over the entirety of his contract, that the $136M will be worth it. Yes it's possible. But that doesn't mean it's very likely. We could get into a long, tiresome discussion about why that Soriano analogy isn't the same thing but let's not. I was thinking more along the lines of if Palmer gives you 75% of what Rich Gannon did then you're probably at least breaking even on the trade.
  16. It's possible for a quarterback to play well enough to justify giving up that much. Now Palmer probably won't but it's not like there isn't a certain threshold that exists where it would've been worth it.
  17. Well, you're ignoring Landry Jones this year and Tyler Bray and Aaron Murray next year. Whether or not Palmer was elite a few years ago matters not now. The Raiders aren't getting Palmer from his heyday and even if they captured lightning in a bottle with him, they significantly overpaid. Landry Jones isn't going to do dick in the NFL
  18. Palmer's still a QB though and I'm still astonished he netted 2 first rounders. The Raiders are the only team that makes that deal. No way is Forte's trade value that high.
  19. Forte's gotten way more valuable since he decided to shoot horse steroids and break tackles. He never, ever used to be able to break arm tackles and now he's running through them with ease and stiff arming like crazy. His jump cut is one of the best in the league now too Of course I would deal him in a heart beat for 2 #1s.
  20. Moss holds the single season TD reception record--24 I think with the Pats in 2007
  21. BTW what do southern cal fans really think of Kiffin? Is he a long-term answer or a stop gap to get thru the tough suspension period? Apathy. He can recruit and scheme offensively pretty well but it's kind of off putting to watch your head coach just stare at his call sheet all game instead of actually talking to his players. He has the reputation as a sour puss and his way to compensate for that is to do wacky two point conversions and have the center try to throw for first downs.
  22. Yeah behind CP3. Lame.
  23. Yeah, that would've been nice. I was just happy that Knox actually played defense when he needed to. Last year that would've been a pick in the end zone.
  24. If we're going to only send out a couple of guys out in patterns to help protect we could really use a stud out wide that can win battles in traffic. I mean we could use that anyway but I'd be all for getting Marshall and leaving extra men in protection.
