    I don't think we've got the pieces to go get an ace personally. I think adding Jurrjens and Prado could be one stop shopping for us in the trade market though. Although, I admit to liking Jurrjens a little more than I probably should. But I think we'd be looking at adding 2 guys that are combined around a 6 WAR, if healthy. We need Jacksob, don't want to deal him, but I'm completely fine trading off Szczur, McNutt. Vitters or whoever. Fill 2 holes fairly cheaply and have plenty of cash still to address pitching and 1B.

    We were running a mom and pop store. This is awesome to see the growth of everything so quickly.

    How about this for an offseason: trade Szczur/Cashner/Vitters/Lake for Jurrjens and Prado. Puts our payroll at 110. Sign Fielder, first year at 15. 125 mill at this point. Sign Sizemore and Bedard to put payroll around 140. Trade Byrd off, payroll back towards 135. Play Prado at 3B, Sizemore in RF, and you've added Jurrjens and Bedard to rotation. I think that's a playoff contender myself and we're still not killing ourselves longterm. The Atlanta guys have 2 years of arb left and Sizemore and Bedard would most likely be on one year deals. I think a rotation of Garza/Jurrjens/Dempster/Bedard/Zambrano looks pretty solid and you've got Wells as your swing guy. If you add a 4th OFer type to insure Sizemore for around a mill or so, I really like it.

    Braves supposedly offered the Royals the pair for Will Myers and Lorenzo Cain. Myers value is down a tad, but we could come up with something comparable here, couldn't we? Maybe Szczur, Cashner, and their choice of McNutt or Barney? Maybe we have to toss in Lake or Vitters? I'm higher on this pair than most appear to be. But I think Jurrjens is our 2, if we get him and Prado's versatility gives us options moving forward as well.

    I still think he winds up back in Texas, probably at a slight discount from what we're thinking. Maybe 5 for 75 or so, just because he's comfortable there.

    Theo made a comment where he said there was no reason for us to even hold organizational meetings til near the end of the offseason, because he doesn't even know guys' names yet. So I ask, will this keep us from being as agressive as normal? Free agency may go as normal, but it's highly doubtful Theo and the gang are going to know our system well enough to truly feel comfortable making deals, right? Just wondering though, if maybe we actually do get off to a relatively slow start, while Theo takes some time getting more comfortable in his new surroundings.......

    In the end, isn't this basically going to wind up just as a quote from Michael Douglas, in Wallstreet......."Pick the dog with the least fleas". Because, in the end. there's really not such a thing as the perfect free agent anyway. So, no matter who it is, or when it is, if a guy looks like he fits in with your plans, go ahead and sign him. Because it's not like we're going to get a bigtime guy on a one or two year deal anyway. Theo already knows this anyway, even if these writers don't have the capability to look past 2012 for some assinine reason.

    Yeah, he's kind of the guy without a spot, but I think they could deal anyone other than Price, just depends on who gives them the best return. Davis could still develop into a 2 or 3, so he's a guy I'd be curious about, along with everyone else they have too.

    Hard to quantify exactly what an ace is. Are there 30 guys who technically qualify as one? Do we use WAR to figure this out? Is it an eyeball test? In the end, I figure Garza is an excellent 2, or possibly a slightly below average 1, maybe average. But, as a major market team, who should fashion themselves as true contenders moving forward, we should expect to have Garza, and both a guy slightly better and a guy slightly worse for our top 3. That's my hope at least. 4 and 5 can be guys coming up from our system and the hope is at least one of them also develops into a frontline guy as well.

    No, I wish like hell he was. But, much later, around 3 or 4 in the morning, we were leaving and we witnessed him dragging a drunk, possibly passed out girl, by her hair to his limo. At this point, we did scream Whooooooooo! To him.

    Since we're now delving into urination stories, I was at a bar in Charleston, SC one weekend night and they shut the doors for some reason. Someone got on the PA and announced all drinks were free for the rest of the night. Drinks were on Ric Flair, who had just walked in evidently. Really big bar, never even saw Flair.........Until I went to the restroom. There he was. Peeing on the wall, with a full beer in each hand. Whoooooooooo!

    In a perfect world, we give Garza a 4 year extension this offseason and find a way to trade for a young frontline pitcher as well. We may not have the ability to do it though. But I'm hopeful at least.

    I like all of these guys. Not sure whether Theo does or not, but if we make a trade, I expect it to be for something like this anyway. Young, controllable guys that fit for the future and possibly the present as well. The Braves guys fall into this category as well, same with a Hellickson type in Tampa.

    I want to keep Garza, but if I get a return of Montero and Banuelos, I'm seriously considering it.

    If Oakland doesn't offer him arb, I'm all for it. If they do, stay away, because he's not worth losing a pick over. He's older and he's declining. Not the type of guy Theo said we'd be targeting at all anyway.

    I'm perfectly fine with them, if for no other reason, Theo appears to be as well.

    I like Jurrjens a lot. Maybe a package involving Cashner and one of Jackson or Szczur would entice them? Send Lake as well, if need be. I'm not sure what Prado is worth. Hard for me to figure out which guy he is, so unless he could be had for a package with McNutt as the main piece, I'm staying away from him.

    If one of these 3, who all seem like solid hires, doesn't blow Theo away, I think we're looking at Francona as our next manager.

    Would love to have him. But it's going to take another Garza type package to get him. And right now, I'm not sure we even have another one to trade away. If we did, it'd decimate the system. We'd have the 2011 draft class and whatever we draft in 2012. I guess a comparable package from us this time would be Brett Jackson/McNutt/Vitters/LaHair/Dolis. Positions don't match, but talent wise, it's probably close.

    He's also a Type A free agent. While it looks like he's leaving, they'll offer arb. I'm not willing to give up a pick for him. Not enough of a difference maker.

    Sat next to Carlton from Fresh Prince once. Kept thinking I knew this guy, but couldn't quite put my finger on it. Than a Flight Aatendant came by and asked him if he would mind doing the Carlton Dance for her once we landed. 15 minutes later, he looked at me and said "I'll hit that tonight" and proceeded to show me pictures of quite a few women he's evidently been with. That Carlton's quite a horndog.

    Buehrle is still a pretty good pitcher. Yes, I think he'd sign with the Cubs if he had no other options. But, he will. So, he won't be a Cub.

    I'm going to throw this out there and hope I'm wrong, but I think the Dodgers are going to definitely get one or the other of these guys. Now that McCourt has agreed to sell, I can see a Trib like spending spree coming out of them.

    Man, I've already posted that once or twice, since this has all happened and I still can't believe it either. I would have been thrilled with any ONE of these 3. And we got them all. Best offseason ever, no matter who we sign.

    Some of Jackson's K problems come from being picky though. I think his K rate will always be an issue, but I can see it dropping a bit anyway. And I think he's a pretty solid bet to give us some .350 OBP seasons while also going 20/20 as well. I'll pass on trying to deal him personally, because I think he holds great value for us as a CFer and as our leadoff hitter.
