  1. PFT says V-Jax's agents are told franchise tag is "improbable". Crennel says it's not "definite" Bowe will be back. Good news for us Bears fans, even though I fully expect Bowe back in KC.
  2. If we do, it just means we'll draft a big WR in the 1st round. My guess is we add a WR thru FA and an early(1st or 2nd rounder) in the draft. Big guy and a little guy. I don't want Royal, but Jay may like him. At any rate, if we DO go after him, he won't be the main receiver addition for us. Don't get me wrong, I want TWO additions better than Royal, but my guess is we were mainly feeling out the agent on Bowe. I'll hope for V-Jax, Stevie, or Manningham, since I think those 3 are the best of the guys I think actually hit the market.(Don't want Colston or Wayne) and draft another guy in the 2nd or 3rd. Hell, I'd take Wright in the 1st to pair with one of those guys personally, to turn an obvious weakness into a real strength. But, if we wait, I'd love to take a chance on Ryan Broyles in the 3rd or 4th. Coming off the injury, I think he'll be a great value type guy and could be a nice complement to a big wideout.
  3. Jeffrey played in the 230's last season. getting in shape for an audition to make millions doesn't change anything at all. He's a risk to blow back up.
  4. Based on potential upside, the best possible rotation we could hope for is for Wood, Volstad, and Shark to all be in it, without Maholm. Obviously, the 3 of those guys aren't going to bust out all at once, hell, never is more likely. But each has more upside individually than Maholm does. Not a knock either on Maholm, he'll earn his spot out of consistency, but he'd get left out if they all pitched to their abilities.
  5. I liked Aramis a lot, but I fall on the other side here honestly. As much crap as Z did, he was my favorite Cub. Super talented, of course, but he was just exciting. You never knew what you may get from him. No hit stuff? Home run? Stolen Base? Nailing a couple of players? Breaking bats? Screaming at guys? Beating the hell out of teammates? He was a volcano, talentwise and personalitywise as well. And in a "rebuild" type season, he probably could have kept things from possibly getting stale, as he did plenty of times in the past.
  6. We've got his buddies alreadyand I think we'll do whatever it takes to get him here. The only way we don't get Soler is if we jumped the gun and got in trouble and it's been kept secret, which I seriously doubt is the case.
  7. I'd be OK with Manningham and Wright as a combo. My head tells me we wind up adding Wayne or Meachem and a 3rd round TE and think we're strong receiver-wise.
  8. Yeah, I should have clarified that. Didn't mean to insinuate he's sitting 94/95. I don't have any idea what to expect over the course of this season, but seeing the top 10 or so get turned upside down more than usual seems like a good bet.
  9. The loophole technicality sucks. It'd bother me more though if we were supposed to contend.
  10. Super Troopers is the other thread. And food was just spit out in Virginia Beach after reading that.
  11. This bunting tournament just seems cool. Something different for sure. NCAA type bracketing and everything. Paul Sullivan just said the best thing ever too. Said Cubs are looking into getting Gus Johnson to call the finals. Obviously a joke, but it'd be the greatest thing ever........
  12. I thought Smoral was mostly projection and threw 90ish right now, but Fried was more polished and throws 94/95? He seems to be the one gaining early traction out of the HS guys anyway, Piliere put him 5th overall actually.
  13. If Zunino keeps up what he's doing, or anything close, no way he makes it to 6. O'Brien has started off very well as well. Since the only "upside" Catcher we've got is Malave, I'd be OK with looking at O'Brien as a supplemental round guy, especially if he'd take less to sign, since he's a senior.
  14. In order, I'll put my wish list as far as needs go like this: #1 WR, O-Lineman, 2/3 WR, DE, TE, Backup QB, CB, O-Lineman. Preferrably, I'd address #1 WR, Backup QB, TE, and CB thru FA.
  15. Aaron Fitt just mentioned on Twitter that Kyle Zimmer has put himself into conversation about going 1st overall. Wow.
  16. Finley got 2/15 to stay in GB. I guess we knew he wouldn't hit FA under almost any circumstance, but maybe Fred Davis' pricetag fits us? He's solid and certainly has baggage, so if the Redskins don't franchise him, he's a solid buy low candidate, in my opinion.
  17. Baez is getting Sheffield comps, so you're probably underrating him.
  18. With the cap space we have and the aging defense, our window is closing, in a way. So, it amkes sense to load up as much as possible offensively this offseason. Both for now and for the future as well, since it's likely the defense could begin taking steps backward in the future. I think any talk of NOT spending is a smokescreen personally. I expect us to go get a solid WR and a few other spots filled as well through FA.
  19. Lucchino didn't come close to getting his way. This deal was agreed to months ago and he nixed it, holding out for more. And didn't get it.
  20. I'll take starting pitching, Buxton, or Zunino. All I really want to see though is for Marrero to have question marks attached, to where he's not worth us taking at 6. Just not enough upside there. The more I'm reading, the more I think Max Fried and maybe Matt Smoral will be in the discussion for us. Both could wind up as TOR lefties.
  21. WalterFootball's current mock has us taking Floyd, Orson Charles, Brandon Washington, Sean Spence, and Shaun Porter in the 1st 4 rounds. I'll be happy as hell with that draft.
  22. As far as the Bears cap situation goes, it's cool to be 25-28 mill under. I wonder how much they'd save if they cut Barber, Spaeth, Adams, and Spencer? Their numbers show close to 11.5, if most of that could be saved, I'd get rid of them.
  23. They do? I think so. Pitching-wise, it's weak. But you do have McNutt, Maples, Rhee, Concepcion, and Wells. All have a shot at becoming rotation guys. Position players have more upside with Brett, Baez, Szczur, Vitters, Vogelbach, Hernandez, Candelario, Golden, Rizzo, Torreyes, and Lake. If you add Soler to this group, our position players are probably just about as strong as anyones.
  24. I'm pretty sure a couple of months ago, Levine said we had a deal in place to end this and it was Carpenter. But Lucchino threw a hissy and nixed it. All in all, I think this is hilarious, if true, because we stood our ground and waited out Lucchino's stupidity. As far as losing Carpenter goes: I'm perfectly fine with giving up an older prospect with command issues and former elbow problems for what's turned into the best Front Office in the game.
