  1. Yeah, but if you've got any hopes of playing pro ball, you may have just hurt them a bunch by pissing off the team that drafted you. It's a professional negotiation. They are low-balling for strategic reasons, they can't be offended if the player plays back at them. Obviously the player has downside risk with this strategy, but so do the teams. They risk wasting a top-10-round pick, and they make all their other signings more difficult with the uncertainty. Given the tight signing window, I don't think many teams want that uncertainty. There's enough downside on both sides that I'm guessing it's easier for everyone involved just to go with slot. Maybe so. If it's me, I'd get the player to SIGN a post-dated contract, before the draft. If a team is looking to do nothing but save money basically with these picks, I doubt you're going to run into other teams drafting your "cheap guy".
  2. We just drafted Rhett Wiseman. No chance in hell we get him.
  3. Levine sounded pretty confident in his chat yesterday that we'd be the high bidder. Doubt that's worth a Schrute Buck, but still.

  5. Nah, just because we took him at this spot, doesn't mean we think we're getting him. Previously, in Wilken-led drafts, we would typically sign 30ish players out of 50. My guess is we'll offer this guy the full 100,000, plus a paid for education(which I can't CONFIRM is still OK, but have heard it probably is). If he wants to play, he will, I guess. Of course, if by some chance we even have 100K or so left over from our allotment, we could offer it to a guy like this as well, on top of the max offer I've already mentioned.
  6. I don't think there's any chance in hell he'd pass a physical, in order to be traded. Brett mentioned it's up to the acquiring teams discretion though, so I guess it's possible to find a taker out there.
  7. It was me. Don't remember where I read it off of honestly. Think it's in the new CBA. That said, I asked JJ Cooper last night on Twitter after reading his article about senior signs, and he said as long as they agree to less, then you're in the clear.
  8. TJS? If so, this could just be the first year struggles cropping up. Supposedly throws 95 at least.
  9. Heading into next season, I figure we'll have Almora somewhere in the top 3, Johnson and Blackburn around the 10 range or so, Underwood betweem 10-15, and if anyone else pushes themselves into our top 30's, I figure it'll be Bruno.
  10. I really hope as soon as the draft is over, we're on the phones getting Demp moved. His value has to be as high as it can get right about now.
  11. By the way, I found out that you CAN sign players for any amount, as long as they agree to terms. If not, THEN they have to be offered 40%, so it could help us get a bit more room to help out overslotting when needed.
  12. I'll be shocked, with Boras involved, if this doesn't morph into collegiate type recruiting. Bags of under the table cash, "friends of the program" buying cars and houses for family members, and so on. In the end, we're a major market team and we'll be fine. But Selig listened to Reinsdorf on this and he should have left it alone. A 20 million dollar draft budget should not be disallowed. It could help shape a team for a decade, just as much as signing one major free agent signing would, if not moreso.
  13. Whether true or not, this new CBA is a massive FAIL. Bud thought this would get players being drafted in line with talent and instead half the players drafted in the 5-10 rounds probably were barely draftable at best.
  14. Bijan Rademacher OF from a CC somewhere in the 13th. Rated 445 on the top 500. Great name.
  15. Heyman and Knobler just tweeted Correa should have a deal by Thursday for close to 5 mill. It's definitely possible for them to get all 3.
  16. Correa probably needs to take 5 mill or less for Virant to be an issue, if he wants top 20 money. Even then, McCullers is their priority, since he was taken first. Unless they're really supersmart and intend to punt the McCullers pick until next year.
  17. Cubs took RHP Justin Amlung from Louisville in the 12th. Ranked 288 on the top 500. Not too shabby.
  18. Any pick you go over a 100k on after the 10th round counts towards your first 10 round allotment. Unsure whether its full amount or amount minus 100k. Either way, my thought was if we had any thought of extra money leftover, we'd pop them in the 11th round.
  19. Aww, Boras let him read page 1 of his handbook. That was sweet of him. Count me as not worried at all.
