  1. Alcantara is a single away from the cycle and probably has two AB's left.
  2. I'd ask for Crosby and Garcia for Barney, but I'd settle for Crosby.
  3. Starlin gets a day off today. Needed one for a while, kind of surprised we're giving him one with just one series before the break.
  4. Badler is getting ready to have a chat. If anyone wants to pepper him with some Cubs questions, I'm asking about Candelario, about Geiger, and a general IFA outlook for us going forward this year.
  5. I should say that I was expressing my own opinion. I have zero doubt the Cubs thought of Almora as a guy they were extremely lucky to have fall to them. Feel confident in saying THEY saw a ton of separation between him and Fried or they would have went in a different direction.
  6. Levine made a pretty decent point in his chat this week, when it comes to a guy like Garza, that conceivably has SOME validity. He could be getting really frustrated with losing and moving into a pennant race, could re-energize a guy like him. Let's hope that's how other teams look at it as well.
  7. Looks like Castillo went to the Blue Jays, who somehow landed 4 of the top 20 guys. My guess is we're bigtime on Paniagua, Badler mentioned we're in on big names at least. On a side note, a reason to hope we suck this year and wind up with more IFA money for next year: Badler said the early buzz has next year's class being better than this one.
  8. I liked Almora a lot, let me reiterate that. But in this EXACT scenario, if we had gotten Fried for a mill less, I think it could have gotten us one other pretty solid talent as well, making the draft class a bit better in my mind. Again, not saying I don't like Almora more than Fried. But Fried, plus another Underwood type vs. Almora? I'd lean towards the two guys myself.
  9. Nick Young to the 76ers and Brand to be amnestied.
  10. I know BA doesn't matter whatsoever, but for some reason, I always am hoping Castro hits .300. That said, my guess is this stretch has quite a bit to do with his improved plate discipline. Better to work on it now, than in a season that matters, a step back to take two steps forward kind of thing. That said, I fully expect he'll bounce back and play solidly in the 2nd half.
  11. I'd honestly have liked our draft more if we had taken Fried and had the rest of that cash to spend on some of our guys after the 10th round. Granted, if Almora signs for close to slot and we still get a few of the others, I'm happy. But I figure that winds up being the price for dealing with Boras. And if it is, I really hope we can avoid him next draft, if possible.
  12. I can assure you, this is the first time Maples and top 50 prospect has gotten a mention in the same sentence. Hopefully, in a year or two, it gets revisited, because it's worth taljing about then.
  13. Hopefully, it looks quite a bit different on July 31st, than it does on July 13th. By the way, piecing together the comments from the BA chat today, right now, we probably have 3 top 50 guys. But Brett may fall completely out of the top 100, and it doesn't seem like Szczur or Vitters gets in either. If Candelario doesn't make it on either, we'll certainly need some help at the deadline to make it into the top 10 systems, by them.
  14. Awesome. Highest upside arm in the system? I guess it's either him or Maples.
  15. Raisin, is he top 30 for you right now?
  16. Morosi just tweeted Toronto has a guy there. That said, my guess is every contender has probably had someone at each of his last 4-5 starts.
  17. Give yourself a shaving cream pie Garza.
  18. Matt: get your head out of your ass.
  19. If it actually was Sveum that changed Rizzo's swing, he's got an extremely long leash with me.
  20. That's awesome to hear. I kind of have it in my mind that he gets dealt this weekend for some reason. No idea why, but I see Kalish, Barnes, and Owens being the package we get.
  21. Shouldn't be. He saw Rosario live in one of his best outings. That said, it's a good call anyway.
  22. I think there's a damn good chance they go get Dwight now. Bynum's far better than whatever the Nets can offer.
  23. Tonight, Rizzo tied Alonso in homers at 3. Of course, Alonso has 249 more at bats than Rizzo does, at this exact moment. But Alonso may get another at bat tonight to try to go back on top, so the Pads have that going for them.
