  1. Yeah, I forgot about him. His pricetag wasn't high whatsoever. That said, Travis Wood could possibly give us his production. Another lefty in the rotation would be fine by me though. I forgot to mention Puig as well, who would be an excellent replacement on the horizon for Soriano.
  2. Yeah, one of that group will still be there. I can't hit 4000 points, no matter what I do. On the other hand, I drafted 6 punters and scored 600ish......
  3. A quick move up to Iowa, followed by success including one or both of newfound power or plate discipline.
  4. It just makes July that much more important. Hell, if Tampa doesn't get going, I guess its possible they could move Price at the deadline. Therefore, I hope they start playing better. I figure Stanton gets dealt over the offseason. We'll have around 40 mill coming off the books to re-spend over the offseason, with less spots to spend it on. But guys like Barney, Schierholtz, Wood, Villanueva- If some of them get dealt for something other than a,major league return, given our situation, I think 2014 looks much harder to accomplish a true playoff push. But if those guys stick, 40 mill could get us Choo or Ellsbury, Price(if he's able to be traded for, or some other solid pitcher anyway.
  5. Peralta to the 7 day DL today, no clue yet as to why.
  6. There's moves I wish we would(and could) have made, don't get me wrong. Cespedes. Period. It was our job to know he was ready ASAP, we evidently thought otherwise, that was a mistake. Darvish? With rumors going around that we wanted to bid more but couldn't(on Ryu as well), I'll give that one a pass. And the Garza situation, which I guess is still TBD, although if he gets dealt, it can't be for as much as what we could have gotten last offseason.
  7. Eh, I'll disagree somewhat. I definitely wouldn't classify it as poor, thats for certain. Last year, the onky FA we signed to major league deals were DeJesus, Maholm, Wood, Soler, and Concepcion. DeJesus has been solid enough. Maholm was very solid and brought us back what could turn out to be an excellent return. Wood didn't pan out, but it really seemed he was forced down Theo's throat by Ricketts anyway. Soler looks the part right now and Concepcion was either a horrible mistake or we got unlucky with the mono thing.(likely both) This year, its too early to judge obviously. But you can go through each of them individually and understand why the move was made. I figure we'll get a very solid return on that 50 mill overall. But you are right, he's not picking up the 3 WAR for nothing types-Of course, when he did it a decade ago, it was basically him, Beane, maybe a couple of others and about 25 dumbasses he was competing against. Things have changed and other teams have gotten smarter and leveled the field somewhat. I still figure though, that when a new market inefficiency emerges, we'll be at the very top of teams that exploits it until the rest figure it out.
  8. Well this is [expletive] pathetic. I wouldn't argue that at all. I'm just tired of people putting the blame on Theo, when its extremely likely he's not had a true choice in spending more. To me, the fact I honestly think we've got a realistic shot at contention next year, speaks very highly of our FO, given what I think is a [expletive] payroll cap, that Theo didn't see coming immediately, when he got here.
  9. All I saw was he said he didn't know when the baseball budget would be able to go back up. Once again making it appear as if Theo hasn't been able to make major moves to this point. We have some money coming off though, some cheap guys that are reasonably productive, so we should be able to make a high profile move or two and keep the budget in the same vicinity it is now.
  10. I figure our baseline in dealing Garza at this point is the value of a comp pick. Thats break even basically and we won't break even, we'd just hold on to him instead. His value is less than it was obviously, but if we trade him, I still think we'll get something like Olt and Luke Jackson for him, as an example. One top 100 prospect, plus another guy that fits inside an organizations top 10. At this point, I'm fine if we get that sort of return or if we hold on to him. A top 3 of Shark, Garza, and E-Jax isn't bad. Especially with Appel or Gray coming in soon and the possibikity hopefully of trading for Price. Which would give us a top 5 type rotation.
  11. I wonder how much it'd cost Ricketts to buy these dumbasses out? Just get them the [expletive] out of the picture. If not, its plausible they could delay this, I suppose.
  12. Torreyes is 2-3, with another walk. He's definitely started out his AA stint well. Zach Cates appears to be pitching well, he's a guy that COULD turn himself into a guy we need to follow much more closely.
  13. As a Bulls fan, I hated Kobe for a long time. But who gives as [expletive] about his ego? The dude plays his ass off and won't stop. I respect the hell out of him as a player, he deserves a massive ass ego. NotSportsCenter put out a tweet a day or two ago that unfortunately rings true:" Kobe Bryant has the heart of a lion. Derrick Rose has the heart of a shivering chihuahua." Give me the ego all day long if you bust your ass like that guy has.
  14. How does restructuring work in the NBA? Could they work out a 2-3 year extension with an aav of like 17mm? And spread the $30mm guaranteed over over it? I don't think thats possible. I don't think a contract can be lengthened and cut down on the initial value of a year thats already contracted. Not to mention, thats basically asking Kob to sign a 2 year 21 mill deal, which I doubt he'll take, even in his current situation.
  15. No clue about now, but he broke 100 fairly regularly in college. He was projected as a future closer back then.
  16. I wonder if the Lakers will amnesty Kobe? Next year will be his last under contract and he'll miss part of the season(right?), if not quite a bit. With their luxury tax threshold and his 30 mill salary, it's going to cost the Lakers an additional 45 million, on top of his salary, to keep him. Wonder how much of that 30 mill salary a contender would pick up to have him for the stretch run?
  17. We have a 3rd year option at 6.5, not that we'd exercise it in that scenario.
  18. Not Raisin, but he's in excellent shape, looks quicker, has soft hands anywsy, looks like he's got a solid shot at sticking at 3rd.
  19. I like our chances between Amaya, Hernandez, Bruno, Torreyes, Alcantara, and Watkins. Did I forget anyone? Baez could possibly wind up there or Starlin, if Baez pushes him off. Villanueva was thought to have the ability to play there as well a few years back, but he's probably gotten too wide now. Saunders? Very slim shot, I guess.
  20. Yea no clue who he is. Apparently been with the Cubs the whole way up the ladder since 2011, but he was also 27 when he signed... Edit: Apparently he's from Cuba? Yeah, he was signed the same year we got Silva and Cabezas, I think. And that Bonne guy we've already cut.
  21. No clue whatsoever about what Yoanner Negrin throws, but in 3 innings tonight for Iowa, he's given up 2 hits and K'd 8.
  22. Manaea went 6.2, 5hits, 2 earned runs, 4 walks, and 8 K's.
  23. No walk for Watkins his 3rd PA. 2 run shot instead.
  24. Torreyes took a walk his final PA today. I feel extremely confident that if we can trade Barney for a solid return, we're going to be OK at 2B, with someone from the system longterm, even if we aren't sure which guy it is yet.
  25. Brett being Brett, a walk and a K so far. Watkins? 2 more walks.
