  1. Garza to pitch for Kane County on Tuesday, likely 2 innings.
  2. He played last night. No idea. May have some sort of lingering thing going on though, since he missed another game this week?
  3. No idea. Hopefully AZPhil's report from today will shed some light on it.
  4. Come on Javy, time to heat up. Not totally surprised Soler isn't playing tonight.
  5. Appel. If there's any differentiation at all in your mind, take the better player. Its why I put we see them both as future 1 or 2's. I'd take the cheaper guy because that extra mill could help in getting another big potential guy you wouldn't have a chance at otherwise.
  6. Kyle, go back and look at the entire 2013 FA class. Then acknowledge that finding someone on a bare minimum deal was basically impossible.
  7. Maybe "reach" is the wrong term, but we paid him like a much higher pick. The guy was projected to be a late 1st round to supplemental round talent. He fell due to what was considered a rock-solid commit to UNC. But he was considered one of the very best HS arms in that draft. It doesn't appear its working out for us, but if the draft were the same way, its a play I make over and over and over again.
  8. Cody Ransom will be on our major league roster for a week. Maybe a tad longer. Stewart comes back at that point. What in all of humanity are we arguing his merits for whatsoever? Kyle, if you want a quality bench thats not made up of guys from within your own teams system, you have to pay for it. Its worth it, if you're looking like you're a contender, otherwise, it's kind of throwing money away. Again, who gives a [expletive] if spending 1.5, 2 mill, whatever on a relatively solid backup gets you from 71-91 to 73-89?
  9. I didn't see SS attached, maybe you're thinking of PC Chen. 300K signee, will likely spend the season between Kane County and Daytona. Moved to CF, lots of speed and OBP, zero power. Maybe Campana with less speed, is a fair comp? We also signed Jae Hoon Ha, a C, turned CF(solid 4th OFer possibility in Tennessee) Yei-Lin Wang, a relief pitcher in Daytona, that has a ceiling of a middle reliever, and Tzu-Lin Wang, a very tall, hard thrower, that already washed out completely. All those guys got between 200 and 300k, if I'm not mistaken.
  10. My guess is you're thinking of Jin-Yeoung Kim. He's a RHP that we signed for around 800K during that time period. He was the HS teammate of a much better pitching prospect that had signed on with Boras, but we never heard a word about him after that. His name escapes me, maybe Hyuk Sung Han? At any rate, Kim hasn't fared very well and is likely to be in Boise again.
  11. Bears signed G/RT Eben Britton from Jacksonville today. One year deal. Another solid depth move. Trestman said today in his press conference that he looks at Carimi as a guard.
  12. Now that we know this is a real issue, lets make sure to have a thread on 25th man possibilities next offseason. We can pin Kyle down on who he wants, so this doesn't come back up all the time.
  13. Because we replaced him with a guy who is almost exactly as bad. I don't understand what's so unreasonable about wanting reserve infielders who aren't obvious below-replacement candidates. Because finding someone who isn't costs you a couple mill instead of a minor league deal. It's worth it if you've got a projected 85+ win team. Otherwise, these guys are too volatile production-wise. Sling a minor league deal guy out there and if he produces, then great. If not, go get the next one. If Ransom is on our 40 man at midseason, I'll be shocked. If he starts 5 games in this run with the Cubs, I'll be surprised.
  14. 38% K rate last season in 282 PAs. ZIPS projection of 190/267/339 for a sub-replacement WAR. He might out-Lillibridge Lillibridge. You'll use whatever you have to, in order to bitch about stuff. Ransom is a 0.9 WAR guy for his career and will NOT stick on our 40 man for long. He never has anywhere. Why not just be happy we got rid of the guy you've wasted more angst over than anyone else on the squad this year?
  15. Cody Ransom picked up too.
  16. With Barney activated and Gonzalez in the lineup, I have a feeling we'll see the diminutive [expletive] DFA'd within an hour or two.
  17. Hypotheticsl: Appel wants 7 mill, Gray wants 6. If you have Appel very slightly ahead, but you see both having 1/2 potential, who do you take?
  18. They ding you a ton if you trade away your future picks too. I traded the 2014 and 2015 1sts, plus our 4-7 round picks to KC, took Joeckel, traded back 3 times and still got Warmack, Hopkins, Brown, and Jamar Taylor out of it, but scored under 2500. And yeah, it timed out on me this morning as well.
  19. I got 4100 this morning. I got Ogletree, Eifert, and Warford all in the 2nd round then Zach Ertz, Sly Williams, and Terrence Williams in the 3rd then Barrett Jones in the 4th. Then other picks as well. It just seems like if you want really high points total (4000+), you get the BPA (out of the best value list) each pick. Doesn't matter if you get 3 WRs or whatever. You also need to gain a couple more picks if you're the Bears to get that high. Ah, that makes sense. Their BPA. I've gotten Menelik Watson as far back as middle of the 3rd round, but still got a B- for the pick. They must really hate him.
  20. Isn't that over/under simply the bet on whether he goes 1,2,3? You really think Boras/Appel will accept less than slot if he goes #1? In a case like this, I think so. He's a senior, its a big improvement over the 3.8 he was offered by the Pirates last year, and heading to an independent league, where its still very likely he'd get drafted again, is just too risky. Personally, I'd like for us to have whoever we take at 2 already agreed to terms. If not, we could take Appel, Boras holds up, and that causes us to have to wait in negotiating any overslot deals all the way down the draft.
  21. Wait, what? You think $150 million was going to be enough to offset all of the various costs apparently hindering the payroll? I just think there's a finite amount of cash Ricketts has to work with and every bit of extra revenue would help. In a tug of war between baseball ops and stadium/marketing, the latter is going to consistently win out until the renovations are done or well on their way. I don't think that baseball ops would have gotten an extra 30 mill a year to work with, but even if it was 10, it could have changed the way we pieced together the roster. That said, its obviously pure speculation on my part, as none of us will ever know how this [expletive] is truly divided or even what Ricketts is actually working with from a cash flow perspective.
  22. I think we were counting on the 150 mill from the city. I don't think Theo expected to have to more than a year without spending big or at least having the ability to. His comment a month or so ago where he said he thought we'd be able to use our big market capabilities sooner kind of puts it in this light for me.
  23. Geez, Torreyes is hurt? What the hell happened? As much as our affiliates tweet, they need to do a much better job of informing us of these things. Hope he's OK.
  24. Callis set the over/under at 6 mill on what Appel signs for. To me, that doesn't bode well for us. The Astros could sign him at that figure and save over 1.5 mill from their slot, enabling them to employ their same strategy as last year.
  25. Not a lot to get excited about today.....Ben Wells went 6, gave up 5 hits, no runs, one walk, and 3 K's. Anyone heard any velo on him this year? If he's sitting in the low 90's again, he could be our best chance at a breakout pitcher this year.
