  1. He's supposed to be a good hitter. When signed, the bat was supposed to play up at 2B, because there was very little chance of him sticking at SS. The Hernandez comp I'm sure is meant as a compliment. I was hoping(still am) that Frandy has more power potential. I can see Marco having 10-12 HR pop, would like to think Frandy has 20-25 possibilities this early in his career. Guess the reports about his polish are likely true though or they wouldn't be flirting with bringing him over skipping the DSL.
  2. Technically, AZPhil did bring up that they could just be giving De La Rosa a taste of the US. Tad surprised at a Marco Hernandez comp, pretty sure he's supposed to have decent power, good enough for 2B.
  3. I finally broke 4000, with an impossible draft. Don't remember it completely but I got Warmack at 34, Hunter in the mid second, Datone Jones in the late second, Arthur Brown, Alford, and Nassib in the 3rd, and filled in after that. Think I got Lattimore somewhere. Now I don't remember my account name, so I can't check.
  4. Yeah, not that the trade value chart is current, but I figure if the Bears trade back, it'll be for less value than what the charts say. Personally, I think we may trade back twice.
  5. From the "holy [expletive] we suck" factoid bin: With less than 2 outs and a runner on third, we've scored the guy 8 times out of 28. The league average is 52%.
  6. Seeing where these QB's get drafted will be very interesting. I think we'll see teams take some chances personally. Especially since the picks are slotted now monetarily. I'd love to see the Bears drop down into the 30's, even if it means no first day pick.
  7. I doubt our FO would do that with him honestly. Maybe by midseason though. I could see us giving him a few major league innings this year though in September.
  8. Don't most guys just pitch through it? Or since Garza is still building up stamina, its best he just throws a pen later this week(as they're saying)?
  9. Wonder if he'll pitch at all for us this year?
  10. I'm very interested to see how Conway is brought about, coming off TJS. The early reports on his stuff though are extremely promising. Maples needs to get moving, hopefully he spends some time in KC this year. Thats hopefully not asking too much.
  11. The problem with that is we aren't sure we had the money to spend this past offseason to do more than we did. Sounds ridiculous, but it coukd have been an either/or situation between adding one solid bat or pitcher.
  12. He's pitched 2 days in a row, they may just not want to use him 3 days in a row.
  13. Kasper is in a Twitter discussion with Colin Wyers right now debating Marmol vs Russell.
  14. Its likely we'll shop Garza, Soriano, and DeJesus. All I'm adding to that is one of Wood or Villanueva, and possibly one of Schierholtz or Barney. The return on any of that group would have to be very, very solid. It wouldn't be to horde non top 100 type prospects(maybe Schierholtz). Is the possibility we trade one of that group likely? I think I'd take that bet.
  15. Next years team will be decided, in part, with what goes on at the trade deadline. Garza could still bring back a cost-controlled piece that may become a fixture very shortly. Something that gets major league time this year anyway. Still have hope that Soriano could net a solid return(assuming we're paying most of his contract). Those are guys we hear about dealing often obviously.(Marmol too, but I can't see him bringing back anything to get us excited) But I think we'll deal more than just this group. One of Wood or Villanueva seems very possible to me and could bring back a very nice(Maholm type) trade. DeJesus could do the same, more if he comes remotely close to keeping up his start. Maybe Barney or Schierholtz? Possible. At any rate, things are likely to look much different on August 1. Top to bottom. We may have a few guys that are cost-controlled playing in the bigs or we may have added quite a bit more to the system(not counting draft) that allows us to make trades. Things suck-but its April 23rd. We have the continued development of certain major leaguers, (minors too) the draft, July 2nd, and the trade deadline. They're not going to sit on their asses. I fully and totally expect to feel much, much better about where things are headed on August 1.
  16. .288/.361/.466, 4HR, 9W, and 10/10 SB. Alcantara breakout? In progress.
  17. Depends if they want a guy with big league experience and some degree of success or the higher ceiling guy without. Loux has a higher ceiling than Travis Wood? Tell me more.
  18. Bears are working out Mike Glennon tomorrow. I brought it up earlier, while I hope they don't use an early pick on a QB, my guess is they pick one no later than the 4th round.
  19. What do you mean by this? I have re-read your post multiple times and can't figure out what you were trying to say. Are you saying that 2014 is an extremely deep draft or completely the opposite? Yeah, I meant its a much better draft. Hell, being a year out, it'll probably get better. Seems like they almost always do anyway.
  20. I think they draw straws in the pen to see gets to suck each night.
  21. The horribly ironic thing about this class is the fecal standings don't really matter. We'd get a better player at 10 in this class than anything other than Appel or Gray with this one.
  22. USS, the plan isn't waiting on all of our draft picks to turn into stars, its finding a nucleus, trading minor league assets for more major pieces, and add via FA when that time comes. I agree with Theo for sure on his statement that winning 78 games instead of 73 just doesn't matter. Its a,metaphor obviously, but winning 80 games to me(with a bloated payroll and not a lot of flexibility) is far worse to me than whats going on. If we're not making more aggressive type moves next offswason, I'll be getting antsy myself, but I like the position it appears we're hwading to.
  23. Kyle, those WERE mistakes. Luckily, they're tiny ones and CAN be filed under the "didn't know the roster well enough yet". The silver lining though, is we have plenty more guys to replace those players minimum level type production. Second silver lining: Both major trades that were made-Cashner for Rizzo and even Marshall for Wood/Sappelt/Torreyed are looking very good currently. And now that they definiteky know the roster better, the small mistakes hopefully start to disappear. No FO is mistake-free, to me, I'm glad we got the more important ones correct before the roster was truly known. And more depth has been added on all fronts from last year to this one, conceivably making the selloff at least slightly less painful to go through as well.
  24. This stupidity is why I chimed in on Kyle's message about backup MIF The Cubs got ~ negative 1 bWAR from their 3B last year, and Ramirez put up 5.6. If you take the Cubs 69 win pace from when they stopped trying you've got a 75-76 win team. I'm not trying to be condescending here, but what good does that actually do? Do you think Aramis is likely to do that for the next 2 years as well?
