  1. Thru 5, Jihnson has given up a hit, a walk, and K'd 4. 7-1 GO/FO.
  2. Have a lot of experience negotiating hundred million dollar deals that include the City of Chicago, do you? I assume he doesn't want to start piecemeal improvements until he has the whole plan approved, which makes perfect sense. Extreme patience is required. No, I don't have experience in this. Neither does Ricketts. And its showed. I can be as patient as anyone. I'm worried that at least potentially, Theo won't be.
  3. FB 86-89, topped at 90, from reports I've seen. As a first rehab start, I think thats fine for his velo.
  4. Fantastic. At least they gave us something we can hold them to.
  5. Tunney hasn't said one word on anything since the plans were unveiled, correct?
  6. Can you not see the difference in dipping 20-30 million in payroll verse the same amount or substantially more in a long term revenue generating project like stadium upgrades? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Of course I can. My point is if they call the Trib's payroll "unsustainable" and act as though every cent is going back towards the club, have a huge amount of Cub-related debt-it doesn't very well lend one to thinking they've got the cash laying around to actually build a new stadium. I'm perfectly fine with(agree with actually) that the baseball ops renovations being mentioned are more important than having one more 15-20 mill type player on our roster currently. That said, it still sucks if it actually IS an either/or situation.
  7. The threat to move should have been done long ago, in my opinion. Not that I think they would(or even could). It just seems empty to me. If they can't dip into their own pockets for an extra 20-30 mill in payroll, what makes anyone think they've got the ability to pay for a new stadium? The way this has been handled, allowing these negotiations to linger on this long, just means we're likely to see everything get pushed back.
  8. What? Can't find the article. Thought it was Mooney. Basically put it in doubt that those things can happen on time. If everything gets set back another year, it would suck.
  9. Garza is pitching for Tennessee today.
  10. On the other hand, Ricketts has already missed his self imposed deadline to have things finalized so baseball ops could have their new clubhouse, batting cages, weight room, etc. Watching Ricketts handle this is just a comedy of errors.
  11. I'm jumping on board with Raisin on Cates.
  12. Currently, if we kept everyone thats under contract for next year on our roster, we're looking at about 70 mill in payroll. If we have to stay at 110(hopefully not), adding Price and a Choo or Ellsbury would put us around 100. Leaving 10 mill for bullpen, extra SP depth, etc. Playoff team? Probably not, but it could project as a .500 type team. That said, I wonder if trading for a Brett Anderson makes more sense. He wouldn't cost us nearly as much in prospects, will be around 7 mill cheaper than Price next year, and would give us extra cash to go add one other pretty solid player. He's a health risk, but hell, all pitching is to an extent anyway. It may be a risk I'd take if it allowed me to keep Baez, Soler, and Almora.
  13. Contreras with his 3rd HR.
  14. Brett with 3K's in 4PA today. I've always been very hopeful Brett would straighten himself out, but I find myself looking at May and June being a true make or break time for him. If he's K'ing 30% or more, I don't see him getting called up. I think Borbon would take DeJesus' AB's, if he gets dealt, in that scenario.
  15. Ransom is still awful, though I'm not complaining that we're getting some small bit out of him for the moment. Gregg would be a fascinating find if he can keep it up. Maybe our FO is finally finding its mojo on cheap pickups. Ransom has basically accounted for Lillibridge's horribleness. As well as he's played it'll come to a screaming halt soon. If he's still on our major league roster into June, I'll be surprised. By then, maybe Vitters or Watkins gets a callup.
  16. He's been proving from day one that MWL pitching is no problem for him, the homers were always going to come. It's amazing to actually have some power in the organization all of a sudden. Baez's is attached to some major concerns, Soler's is sort of slow to show up this spring, and Vogelbach's comes with a terrible defensive projection, but power is the rarest commodity in the game these days and it wasn't long ago that we had none of it. Come up with some power arms now and we start looking like an elite system.
  17. Kyle, are you gritting your teeth on Ransom and Gregg?
  18. They did DFA Lillibridge, didn't they ?? Beaten to the punch. At any rate, he'd have a fairly long list of guys to vault over to get another shot.
  19. I don't even think its a real question. Stewart is 3-32 right now in AAA. I don't think he'll be given a ticket to Chicago unless he earns it. And I'm honestly not sure he will. They may very well just pay him his 2 mill this year to sit in Iowa, stay up all hours of the night talking on Twitter about getting screwed over in Colorado. This is very possibly the last major league contract he signs. The FO may not think much of Vitters, but I bet they know he potentially holds more value than Stewart does. They ARE high, it appears anyway, on Junior Lake, and both these guys will be given chances ahead of Stewart, in my opinion. To me, if Stewart doesn't start hitting in the next week or two, he falls off the radar totally. The FO knows he's not a hard worker and the only reason he's here is because the lack of options they had this offseason. But with Valbuena playing well, he's not needed and they have no reason to reward a guy that doesn't figure into their longterm plans.
  20. Yeah, he's been a pleasant surprise. While the success ratio of dumpster diving off the waiver wire is slim, Valbuena has definitely been on the high end of what to possibly expect from that method of acquiring players. Technically, he was arb eligible for the 1st time in 2013(930,000k) but he does have 3 more of arb after this. I'm fine with him as our stopgap. And if he sticks around as a utility guy once we've got a true longterm 3B, we'll have a very solid bench piece.
