  1. Where are you getting that? They trade off 2nds just because they can. They literally promised they'd take Hutchison with a pick when they could have still been out scouting. They could and should have traded back into the draft last year and the year before, yet left the building literally. They fail to utilize their roster anywhere near the amounts that they can. What exactly do you see them doing currently? They made what turned out to be a nice trade. And they've hit on the 7th pick twice in a row. Which is why I'm enthused. They signed Jabari. Not gonna work out, but I at least see why..... But yes, they are doing the minimum. I can't even comprehend how you don't see it. I've spelled out the things they're not doing. And during a rebuild, those things are essential. If you're not doing them, you're half assing things. No way around it.
  2. Fine. I used the Sixers solely for taking so many shots. The point is that GarPax fails to do anything more than the bare minimum.
  3. You're literally propping Heyward up with seasons he's 3 years removed from. You evidently think he's reverting back to pre 2016 Heyward? Is Harper the last two years or his MVP year? Even this year Heyward had a better season. You're using bWAR obviously. Go look at fWAR. Go look at the last 3 years of either. Harper's better by both. By a ton in fWAR. And you're getting propped up solely by D. Which Heyward is getting older and will start to lose anyway. That said, you're moving him to CF and into a true platoon with Almora, strengthening CF too, by adding Harper.
  4. That's gonna get jumped on enough, so I'm going to try and respond from a baseball standpoint..... Willy isn't a FA until he's 30 or so. You probably don't want to give a C a long term deal at that point. Rizzo will be older too. And 1B isn't hard to find production at, although my guess is they'll figure out a way to keep him. And Javy can be kept, if he's still producing. The Cubs have plenty of money and have 3-4 years to find some cheap guys at whatever spot they develop them at. They can certainly afford Bryce right now. And if you're insinuating he's not great, then I've got nothing to respond with, other than you're wrong. And you're getting him in his prime. Is Heyward as great as Harper? The numbers say both players bring you the same wins. Pay for expected performance, sure. But why should we expect Harper to be significantly better than he has been? If the Cubs can afford to overspend and keep their great young core, great. But are the Cubs getting an upgrade in RF. You're literally propping Heyward up with seasons he's 3 years removed from. You evidently think he's reverting back to pre 2016 Heyward?
  5. The Sixers took way more shots. They took EVERY opportunity. Take more shots, you're gonna hit more. It's even MORE frustrating, because we CAN draft fairly well. The Sixers also didn't have an asset like Jimmy Butler to jump start a rebuild. A lot of people wrote it off, but the plan there was to take 3 shots at once. That all 3 may pay off isn't that different than sucking for 3 years for your first three shots. You can't count on that. And if you do, sitting there and patting yourself on the back for it, is still the wrong strategy. Being active now is even MORE important, because you've found a decent framework. But, they're not manufacturing more. They're sitting on their hands. Yeah, I like the current group. And I'll like it more if they add Barrett, Little, Reddish, or Williamson. But, they could and should be taking more shots. Buying 2nds. Late 1sts. Bad salary. Shuffling the roster...... They're lazy. No way around it.
  6. You might want to keep all those guys because their replacements wont be as good. But you won’t because you are overpaying for a RF’s production because he has good hair or something. 7. Why is it dumb luck just cuz they didn't do it like the Sixers did? Hell the Sixers had their share of luck too. The Sixers took way more shots. They took EVERY opportunity. Take more shots, you're gonna hit more. It's even MORE frustrating, because we CAN draft fairly well.
  8. No. The problem is they do NOTHING like the Sixers did. The Sixers found cap space to hoard more picks and they used their roster as a shuttle to try guys out. The Bulls skimp out on these things big time. I hate GarPax. But, the only thing that has me interested right now is they actually do have an extremely talented base of youngsters already, even if it was by luck..... LaVine, Lauri, and even Dunn have all shown signs. The first 2 conceivably have All Star potential. Portis is an excellent piece at this point. To trade or to keep in the right situation. And Carter fits perfectly with this group too, even though he'll likely see some growing pains as a 19 year old. That's a bunch of talent for being one year in to a rebuild. And its a wing heavy top end of thecrraft too, which fits the Bulls needs luckily again. If they get one of Barrett, Little, or Reddish, they've got an extremely interesting group next year. Or Williamson, even though he's not truly the best fit. Dumb luck may prevail over GarPax here. But, these guys need to get healthy and some time on the court together. If they do and they stay healthy next year, I think this team makes the playoffs, even without big additions thru FA. Partially because its the East, but still....
  9. And they may have lost Portis for a while.

  11. The Asik thing is probably overblown. The Bulls still have plenty of ways to be a salary dumping ground at the deadline or in the summer if that's what they need to do. Although I don't think the Bulls really want to be a salary dumping ground either, at least based on the current market for that sort of thing. That's the sole reason I was OK with using the money on Jabari and not taking on the same salary for a late 20's pick in next year's draft or even later. Figures that market dried up as soon as we were ready to take advantage of it lol.
  12. The problem is that the Ricketts family won't be paying it, all of us Cub fans will be paying it through $200 seats, $15 beers, $10 hot dogs, and an extra $30 a month to add their network to your cable package. Everybody knows that a billionaire didn't get rich by eating the cost of an expensive asset, they just pass it along to the consumers. Just curious, is there anything you're ever happy about, Cubs related? Because you disappeared during 2016.....
  13. It's stuff like that...... That's why GarPax needs to be fired. Granted, there's a ton of teams that are set up to have max money available anyway. This EXACT screwup likely doesn't wind up mattering. But, they do so many of these "small" things wrong, that collectively it kills us. I actually think they draft pretty well, with their 1st pick in a draft. But, outside of that, there's literally nothing they do well.
  14. I don't know for sure, but I think a structure like that, actually is possible. At any rate, the general structure is exactly what we need to be going for......
  15. These guys are 26 and in FA. Stanton was still in arb. Greinke was older. 10/350 is literally what's going to get you a face to face. They're both getting 400+ and 12-14 years, AND a couple of opt outs too.
  16. The key to this, is getting Mexico put back in play before the next signing period. If it is, I doubt the Orioles have any semblance of an inroads yet down there.
  17. I hate GarPax with a passion, but this team was supposed to and expected to suck. They knew this too. The Jabari move was basically just taking a flyer on him, over trying to find a team to take a bad contract from.
  18. The difference between Cutler and Trubisky, is Pace. There's going to be more cohesion under Pace, for Trubisky to grow. He's been given a solid O-Line, good skill position players, and a good defense, all at the same time. And I feel pretty confident he's not about to see 6 different offenses to learn, over an 8 year stretch either. If Cutler had been given those things EARLY in his career, no one knows how things would have turned out. Maybe no different at all. But, it's also possible his talent would have been used much better. With Trubisky, I honestly can't see how anyone sees the talent worthy of being taken where he was. Doesn't even matter though, he's our guy, like it or not. But, given the roster he's surrounded with, he'll be passable. Is passable enough? It better be. Because this is our roster going forward, for the most part. No more big name FA, no 1st or 2nd next year, no 1st the year after that...... Hopefully they can manufacture some extra picks somehow. Because each of Trubisky's years under his first contract are infinitely more important now.
  19. Mack has got to get back to 100% or close to it. Without him, this is a 6-7 win team, even after starting 3-1(3-3 even). If he's healthy, 5-3 is a distinct possibility. Winning the home division games is a possibility. SF and the Giants are a possibility...... That's 10 and likely a playoff berth. But, that's also without a stump your toe effort at some point, which is extremely likely. Especially with Trubisky being streaky. But, if he's not healthy the rest of the year, this D isn't good enough to win versus Minnesota or Green Bay and our offense isn't just outscoring them either. And 6-7 wins, without a lot of room for upgrading in the offseason, will suck.
  20. Yeah that was a sweet 3 he made there at the end. That said Parker, Portis and LaVine might be 3 of the 10 worst defenders in the NBA. Hopefully Dunn coming back will stabilize things a little Lauri too, in 15 games or so. Honestly, a starting 5 of Dunn, LaVine, Holiday, Lauri, and Carter is decent enough on the defensive side. LaVine can be helped out enough, with THAT group. The second unit though...... Holy horsefeathers. Jabari, Portis, Denzel once he's back, and Lopez-who I swear lost 3 steps over the offseason..... That's where the Bulls are going to be God awful this year...... I guess staggering substitutions, like they've been doing, is about their only option. But, I'm really looking forward to seeing that first group of 5 together.
  21. Game 1 Jabari's defense single handedly decided the game. Holy horsefeathers, he's awful lol. Honestly, it's on Hoiberg. You can't have Parker in the game late defensively. And yeah, LaVine may not play D, but he's a legit scorer. He's going to be so fun to watch this year.
  22. Isn't he the guy that blocks home plate when someone pimps out a homer? Hates bat flips, all that stuff. Just super, super o!d school. Just that on a guy who otherwise perfectly fits the roster for baseball reasons and probably is ready to take low commit steady work as a backup/semi-platoon for contenders? Just grab him and give him a start or three a week, however it works out. This one actually seems like an easy one to me as the top choice for a catcher among FAs. Theo really seems to value the clubhouse fit stuff. Honestly, I figure McCann is either 100% the right guy or 100% the wrong one, based on his personality, and what Theo is looking for. From an On the field standpoint, I like the idea a lot. Lefty, solid defensively, has pop, seems to call a good game.......
  23. What did he do? Isn't he the guy that blocks home plate when someone pimps out a homer? Hates bat flips, all that stuff. Just super, super o!d school.
  24. Lol, I've brought him up to some buddies. Theo has mentioned adding a guy with an "edge" and I thought of who's a Lackey type and McCann was first I saw as far as FA go...... My guess is he'd get 1/5 or so, plus some incentives? That said, I actually wonder if his own teammates hate him. He may be TOO much of a red ass to fit in.
