  1. So evidently Rose did NOT recruit or anything, just showed up for his workout and was shocked to see Melo, who he didn't even know was in town.
  2. [expletive] yes! No get the friggen TJS. 22nd of this month, per Callis.
  3. Yeah, they were right. Callis says he's having TJS on July 22nd.
  4. Hamels and Lee don't affect our market honestly. Very few teams can take on their salary and none of the teams I want involved with our guys can. Boston isn't going to deal their guys within their division, in my opinion. And I'm not sold they deal Lester because they want to keep him. Same with Lackey, if they think he actually plays next year.
  5. Loaded question honestly. They did an excellent job with what was available. The negative is that there didn't appear to be a true stud available at 4. Schwarber, being an advanced college bat made sense and plenty of upside pitching followed. Wish a consensus guy was there at 4, but the early returns on Schwarber are obviously promising. And I loved the pitching we added. Given the situation, it's an excellent draft. Wish it had been a slightly different situation though.
  6. I think we'll know on Shark by the ASB. If Hammel is still a Cub at that point, I think Shark is staying put. I don't think they want two guys on the market diluting their own market possibly.
  7. That if all things are equal in terms of contract being offered and basically the same chance at winning, Chicago is on a par with LA and New York, as far as where guys want to play.
  8. If the league is turning towards the grouping of stars, do you guys truly see Chicago being on equal footing as New York or LA?
  9. The GMP of LA is like 1 and 1/2 times that of Chicago. New York is like 2 and 1/2. Where there is more money, there is more opportunity. Does it affect these guys enough to sway them? I have no idea. But it could. All we truly have to go on is history and history has told us so far that the truly elite basketball players have stayed away from Chicago since MJ, unless they were drafted by us. Can it change? Sure. But until it does, I'm not going to keep getting my hopes up so much.
  10. Guess it does bring in to question what our penalty would be for going over next year if there's a draft set for 2016? My guess(without knowing how a draft would truly work obviously) would be the loss of 2 future 1sts. Which would at least make it imperative to hit really big, so you make it worth it.
  11. So would jordan have had double the endorsements in LA or NY? Is Melo or anyone else MJ?
  12. I'm not saying the Knicks ARE a good situation. I can definitely see Pau believing in Phil though. And I can see Melo not wanting to leave and thinking him, Pau, and Phil is a nice start to rebuilding them. Kobe is meeting with Melo AFTER he meets the Knicks, by the way. If money is a true factor here, Chicago doesn't come remotely close to New York or LA as far as endorsement opportunities go. I've read previously no city comes in at much more than half of what those 2 cities can offer in endorsements.
  13. He's basically said he would in the right situation.
  14. Can we slap a nickname on Barney and increase his trade value? Or infringe on Shields with Big Game James Russell?
  15. I'm certainly not a lawyer, but I would think the rooftops could file something to stop anything from going on until after its decided. Anyone know if this sounds right?
  16. While I agree with the "[expletive] them" sentiment and do think we'd win a lawsuit eventually, I am still very concerned about how long a lawsuit could take and postpone things from getting done.(or started actually)
  17. I guess Melo could play the 4, if he has to.
  18. http://www.baseballamerica.com/international/cubs-sign-tony-rijo/ 100k on this 3B
  19. Was Wendy Thurm wrong in her Fangraphs piece or did the rules change from last year to this year? The Yankees can't sign anyone for over 300,000 for TWO years now? There'll be a draft anyway, but did the rules change and I just missed it?
  20. With Lowery and Gortat choosing against Miami and Lebron certainly not committing yet, I'm really starting to think Lebron and Melo wind up with Kobe.
  21. SS signing for 250,000 as well. http://www.baseballamerica.com/international/cubs-sign-dominican-shortstop-yeiler-peguero/
  22. If Olt can figure out how to hit .180, he's worth keeping as a backup 1B/3B/maybe LF guy because of the power. I hate saying it, as I was very hopeful of more, but that's his upside to me at this point.
  23. http://www.baseballamerica.com/international/cubs-sign-dominican-lefthander-wander-cabrera/ Badler mentioned Cabrera to us in his preview.
  24. And as good as that is, it's dwarfed by Alcantara and KB's last 10.
  25. I'm pretty sure Pau has said money isn't his focus. There's been some speculation he'll sign for the MLE in the right situation.
