  1. It's that very few thought Schwarber had ANY hope of sticking at C. If that starts to change AND he keeps hitting like this, he's a top 5 prospect at the end of next year. My honest guess is he's in the 50-75 range of most lists this offseason and maybe only 75-100 on some.
  2. We just signed him. UDFA, 24 years old, just got out of the military. Hitting 95 on the radar in Hillsboro. Good control. He had shown good velo on the Cape this summer.
  3. Schwarber is 2-3, with a 2B in the 2nd game.

  5. Vogelbach with his 2nd HR of the day.
  6. Almora 2-3 with a 2B and HR, Russell 2-3 with a 2B
  7. My guess is they'll give Grimm a shot at starting again next year.
  8. http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2014/08/23/pete-rose-hall-fame-bud-selig-rob-manfred-commissioner-gambling/14500229/ It's Nightengale, but he's saying we have talked to the Barves about an Upton/Edwin swap.
  9. Vogelbach HR, but they're in a delay now.
  10. What a class that's looking like going forward. Tseng is definitely in our top 10, Torres might be, Jimenez is definitely in our top 20 and Mejia might be. I wish we'd hear an update on why Moreno hasn't pitched since July 23rd. And why Matos hasn't played since August 16th. Still, helluva class and I hope next year mirrors it.
  11. Unless there's an Intl' draft the following year and nobody cares. If they switch to a draft prior to the end of the current CBA, I'm sure they'd take away picks. We're supposed to be good by then, bring it on. Oh, Im fine with it. Same with regular draft picks at this point too.

  13. I'm thinking Ethier, with the Dodgers kicking in at least half the difference may be our best shot to rid ourselves of him.
  14. I put it in the transactions thread too. If he's this good, my guess is a bunch of teams would be more than willing to blow past their limits. If Aiken would have gotten 40 mill on the open market, I'd guess that's in the vicinity here as well. Except half is a penalty and he wouldn't see it. God, these rules suck.
  15. http://www.baseballamerica.com/international/yoan-moncada-cuban-baseball-star/ I guess he's a possibility if it takes forever for him to get clearance.
  16. Soler's single would have been a HR in other parks. He hit it so hard he couldn't even get a double out of it. Couldn't, or lazily refused to? The twitter accounts of it I saw made it seem he couldn't.
  17. 12 mill isn't THAT much when you look at our payroll and how many cheap, pre-arb guys we have, with more coming. It'd have opened up more trade avenues for us as well. No idea how good he is, but he's basically got to be a league average starter to be worth the contract. We'll know whether to look back and bitch about this one midway thru next year probably.
  18. @JesseSanchezMLB: Source: Cuban outfielder Rusney Castillo on track for record-setting 6-year, $72 million deal with #RedSox. Check http://t.co/0KJkX831bj
  19. what witch hunt? poor tom being poor tom more like it. a conservative slum lord behaving like one. I was one of the first Ricketts haters here. All I meant by witch hunt is GW spends every article around finding new ways to bring up Ricketts cheapness. Maybe witch hunt was the wrong wording, since its true.
  20. http://www.suntimes.com/29402267-761/cubs-cut-grounds-crews-hours-to-avoid-paying-health-benefits-sources.html#.U_dRNzy9LCR I admire the tenacity of this witch hunt.
  21. @dan_bernstein: I'm told #Cubs are steamed about this new #MLB rule limiting proprietary international scouting, feeling targeted. Won't say so publicly. I kind of thought the same, then passed it off as too much homerism on my end. But this does hurt. But I guess it just means no prearranged deals. We'll still have the ability to go way over the limits if we want to and we've likely made plenty of inroads with next years class already. We just won't be hearing anything early, as Kiley eluded to a month ago.
