  1. He also subtly calls out BA for doing weekly mocks without having any true info to make changes with.
  2. I'd definitely prefer getting guys with some team control. But we've built up depth in the minors that if we dealt a McKinney, Almora, Vogelbach, even Alcantara for a rental-so be it, as long as it is for something helpful now.
  3. Awesome. Now we've got 2 guys that conceivably help in a major way in the second half if things work out right.
  4. From the early looks of things, the Dodgers, Giants, Cards, Cubs, Pirates, Nats, and Mets are going to be buyers. With the rest selling in the NL. Pads conceivably could change course, but doubt anyone else does. That leaves 4 buyers competing for 2 WC spots. If you're not selling, you really need to buy in a situation like this.
  5. Zimmerman needs to pick it up if he's going to get 100 mill from anyone. Price may get 200 and there's no way that's coming from us. It's been written about multiple times within the last few weeks-3/60 was as high as our budget allowed on Shields AND that was with deferments. Our payroll is going to stay in the general area it is now, with slight increases for more attendance, revenue from signage, etc. But we're not going to be able to take on a Hamels type contract and go sign a guy for over 100. Not until we get our TV deal.
  6. He's super advanced. Just without truly standout tools. I could see the upside being Starlin.
  7. Sounded like Uribe and his agent were bugging Friedman about wanting to play full time. I guess Withrow could conceivably come back and be solid, but this looks to be about as inconsequential of a 6 player deal as it could be.
  8. I fully expect Vogelbach to be dealt before then and I could see Alcantara and/or Javy gone too at the deadline. At any rate, even if none of them are moved, I don't see us having any real issues, we've got plenty of guys we can dump if we need to.
  9. I figured Callaspo was getting cut by the Dodgers and they're doing it for whatever arms they're getting back.
  10. I guess my main issue with that would be what in the hell would we be trading for that would require him as a second piece? And I guess that's a good segue to ask who all do we have that would be considered more valuable in trade currently than Javy? I'd go.... 1 KB 2 Rizzo(he'd be 1st if he wasn't a 1B) 3 Russell 4 Arrieta 5 Soler 6 Schwarber(not sure if I actually think he'd bring more than Javy, if no team is sold that he can stick behind the plate) 7 Starlin 8 Javy I'll try to get to 10.... 9 Lester(even with the contract?) 10 Hammel, Edwards, or Torres? No idea. Maybe Alcantara? At any rate, if we're trading Javy and someone above him on this list, I'm not sure there's 10 guys in MLB I'd do it for, once contracts are taken into consideration.
  11. I actually don't think that's true at all. He's as much of a boom or bust guy as there is. Think about it: If you're a GM of an opposing team, would you trade your best piece for a guy like that as the lead piece or would you take a guy who's maybe not quite as talented, but probably has the higher floor? Most would take door number 2 and not think twice about it. Even analysts and writers have said as much when it comes to Javy. All teams would LOVE to have him, but they're going to try and steal him, not give up the main asset they're trading to get him. It's fine with me, we've obviously got the depth to whether him busting, if he does. But if he doesnt(and I honestly don't think he will), we've got a phenomenal asset. But what I can't see is Theo selling low on him. So if he IS dealt, then my guess is it'll come with him carrying the value of a top 10 prospect in the game and Theo has convinced some GM to take that shot. One that could potentially get him fired at some point.
  12. I'm not a fan of giving up much for bullpen arms, but damn, adding Chapman to this team would be awesome.
  13. I'd prefer TT's route to Tim's simply because we're not parting with anything potentially elite.
  14. He walked his last AB by the way. Sneaky-I admit to not knowing there were only 4 guys that hit 35+ last year. That said, rightly or wrongly, it doesn't scare me off from saying I could still see that as his upside. Obviously, upsides aren't normally hit either. I'll back off generational, but top 10 player in the game possibility? I do think his upside remains that.
  15. what could you possibly see his upside as, to use such wild hyperbole i think we're mostly all going to be really jazzed if he's approaching .300 OBP and mid-20s HR with positive defensive impact, but that's so far divorced from your lofty praise that i can't really fathom what your fantasies for him are He's not going to play SS for us under damn near any circumstance at this point. But that doesn't mean he can't play it for someone else. I think his upside is probably a low .300's OBP with 35-40HR some years.(not saying he'll get there, but can't see why it's not possible either) You wrote him off before he even reached the majors based on his contact rate/K rate. It's not a lock he'll completely fix himself, but I'd use these percentages for his outcomes..... My best case-(top 10 player in MLB)10% 4 WAR average type in his prime-20% 2-3 WAR average in his prime-30% 1-2 WAR average in prime(longterm bench guy)-25% Under 1 WAR average-up and down guy until he's lost forever-15%
  16. That's not what I meant by "whoever," you loon. Nobody wants to just dump him; I want to trade him because I think he'll be ridiculously streaky at best and I think he can be a huge part of a monster trade. Nah, by ANYONE, I actually meant good players. Hamels, whoever else with more than half a season of control winds up on the block. I know you're not saying trade him for the first half ass decent guy to come along. I'm just saying there's a decent chance that when we do trade him, it's still very possible it comes back to haunt us.
  17. Javy for Syndergaard is interesting, but seems more like an offseason deal to me. I figure if Javy gets dealt in-season, it'll be for more of a sure thing to help us this season than a rookie pitcher.
  18. He's 22 and has generational type talent. It's far from a lock he's going to struggle in the majors his whole career. Trading him for ANYONE that's considered available could easily wind up biting us in the ass. I'm OK moving him for the right guy, but I'd be far from comfortable in doing it.
  19. He's on [expletive] fire. If he keeps his current line up for another 100AB's or so..... Tough [expletive] call-trade him or bring him up?
  20. Not when it means looking at a Rizzo-less lineup.
  21. The 3rd one is absurd. The 1st is selling low on Javy or at least not trading him for immediate help. The 2nd one is contingent upon us believing in Javy enough to trade Starlin(Russell isn't moving) I wouldn't do any of them during the season. Maybe entertain Starlin for Syndergaard and Montero in the offseason, if Javy can be trusted at that point much moreso than he can now.
  22. Alcantara HR to lead off the game. Javy bomb his 1st AB too
  23. Yeah, part of the reason the FO dealt Cashner was they weren't sold on him staying healthy. It seemed to be a concern outside of the org too. Obviously, the Pads had Alonso and Rizzo, so they had their choice of which one to trade. I guess that initial struggle stayed too fresh in their minds, much to our advantage. Hoyer and McLeod knew what the Pads thought on Rizzo too, so that was definitely helpful.
  24. That's a great pic(Fowler) My guess and hope is we'll see that pic a bunch more throughout the season.
  25. Well obviously. You're not dealing Javy for a rental. Just put the Heyman blurb in the same thread as the Bowden info to keep from starting 2 threads.
