  1. So Sanchez and Kiley now both have Fox going to the Giants....Hell, maybe Martinez could still be had? Or losing Fox makes the Dodgers give him 20 mill more than anyone else.
  2. Our payroll next year is over 80 next year without counting Arrieta, Strop, Rondon, and Grimm. That'll push it very close to 100. We'll need to address CF and in all likelihood add a TOR type SP. We're only at 120 this season due to squirreling away 20 mill from the previous season.....Yes, attendance and some ad revenue will help a bit. But there's no way in hell we're adding Hamels AND a TOR SP next year. Unless its a youngster who's got that upside and comes from a trade. It'd take a payroll of 150 mill otherwise to do it. I'm HOPING for 125-130. More than that and id be shocked. But that's enough for a CF and one SP. Good luck and I pray you're right if you think we'll be able to go higher than that.
  3. Yeah, they're not spending that much on 3 pitchers. One, they wouldn't put that many eggs in on guys that are of that age range. Two, PTR. I figure they'll get a Kazmir level type soon and then go after one of Price/Zimmermann in the offseason. With the only possibility of adding another TOR type being a trade involving Castro or Javy+ for a young guy with the potential to turn into one.
  4. Dunleavy staying for 3/14.4. Marc Stein hearing Jimmy leaning towards taking the 5/90 over a shorter deal.
  5. Listened to Kiley's podcast and he seemed much more assured the Dodgers would get EJM and Fox. Mentioned there were 7 more Cubans waiting for one more letter to become completely eligible, that would all be ranked by him. 5 of which will likely get between 2-7 mill. Said he'd expect the Dodgers to get half of them. Which is insane, but it at least gives the Cubs a shot at some of them.
  6. DeWees has 3 doubles tonight.
  7. Another update from Kiley brings more Cubs.... RF Vinicio Martinez for 700k 1B Gwang Min Kwon for 600k RHP Wen Hua Sung for 1.250(Boras client,87-91,tops out at 92) Kwon is South Korean and Sung is Taiwanese. Both are 18. Sung is 29th on Kiley's board now. At any rate, it's now 12 guys at 12.450, if the numbers are correct.
  8. I could see Fox or Martinez not winding up with the Dodgers, I kind of doubt those agreements are in place, it's just speculation by the fact the Dodgers are going to spend a ton. Personally, I want one of Ruiz, Sierra, or Gutierrez more myself and figure one of them has the better chance of making it past the Dodgers anyway. Ruiz would be my top choice, but I figure that since Sierra is not rookie pool eligible, he's the guy we'd have the best shot at.
  9. It seems smart as hell to me. There's already reports of up to 5 teams going all in next year. No one's getting Maitan at any semblance of a bargain and teams will be unafraid to go big on him if they're busting their pools anyway. We've got 9 guys right now at 9.9 mill, according to Kiley. That's a damn impressive haul and I trust our scouts/FO much more than I do rankings put out by publications. Especially on players as volatile as 16 year olds. Not to mention, the rankings get skewed a ton by guys committing extremely early, then not showing up to anything but required showcases. Take the rankings with a grain of salt, concentrate on the monetary outlay. Not to mention, we're not even out on the Cubans, Kiley just figures that's where they'll all go. I hope we do more obviously, but I have little issue on taking this class over next year, based on going all in on a guy or two, that their handlers may be steering them somewhere else anyway.
  10. http://www.baseballamerica.com/international/top-30-international-prospects-for-july-2-2/ Badler's top 30. Ademan is 12, Perlaza is 20, Amaya is 22, and Amarista is 30.
  11. Montero has an inflamed rotator cuff. No thank you.
  12. Contreras was our big bonus IFA when he was 16.(800K maybe back then?) Hes been busted for steroids too, a while ago, if I'm remembering correctly. He's moved off C, then came back. Team leader type, very fiery, solid defensively. Maybe the best defensive C in our system.(can't remember how solid Lopez is). He's flashed some pop and a bit of plate discipline, this is the first time he's really put it together offensively. With catchers developing later, there's reasons to like him. But I'd like to see the offense continue for longer before I'd remotely consider him anything more than a potential backup.
  13. Maybe they'll celebrate their victory tonight.
  14. Well, he got out of that somehow. Wasn't expecting it whatsoever.
  15. Pitifully, the question has to be asked if going after one of Martinez, Gutierrez, or Ruiz cuts into the ability to add a Hamels or someone else that has a relatively high salary at the deadline? I can't imagine Theo set aside THAT much IFA money, when these Cubans hadn't defected at the time of budgeting out the payroll.
  16. Looks like we missed(or Kiley most likely added later) LHP Brailyn Marquez with us at 600K. He's 6'3, 175 with 87-91 velo at 16. Love the projectability guys we go after....
  17. It seems like Martinez is an inevitability type thing than it being a true done deal, at least. We need to get one of him, Ruiz, or Gutierrez to make it worthwhile to pass up the following class, in my mind. Maybe another couple of decent non-Cubans as well. The Dodgers getting literally anyone they want is just another reason they'll come to the conclusion that a draft is needed. And as bad as they messed up IFA's with the past CBA, I can't wait to see how bad the mess up the next one.
  18. http://m.cubs.mlb.com/news/article/132949944/jake-arrietas-spin-rate-made-him-an-ace Petriello with a great look at Arrieta.
  19. Callis mentioned they could get to 1.1 on Hudson after this.
  20. I don't understand why any of these teams would trade these players. Baltimore is down on Gausman. With Atlanta acquiring so many arms, I figure it's at least plausible for them to trade one of their major league arms for multiple bats. Cleveland? No reason for them too, unless they feel Kluber has peaked and want to sell high.
  21. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/dave-stewarts-misguided-comments-on-market-value/ Holy [expletive], how is it possible Stewart is a GM?
  22. Congrats Toonster! Roller coast rides can be fun!
  23. Obviously, they'd prefer trading for a guy with team control, but if the prices are unrealistic, I doubt they'd take issue with adding a rental...... I keep trying to think of teams that have younger, team controlled guys, that are possible sellers... .... Cleveland with Bauer, Salazar, or Kluber? Atlanta with Miller, Teheran, or Wood? The only teams I think could wind up selling are Boston, Cleveland, White Sox, Oakland, and possibly Seattle in the AL. With Philly, Atlanta, Cincy, Milwaukee, SD, and Colorado in the NL. We've talked about Gray, Buccholz has been mentioned. Ross has been mentioned, as has Shields. If the White Sox would deal with us, Quintana is an option(just don't see it though). I'm guessing Theo checks in on Felix every season, since he's got a well documented love affair with him. I guess the Mets could deal from their excess, Baltimore could deal Gausman.... At any rate, there just aren't many realistic long term options. I'll be a bit surprised if we get a long term guy before the offseason.
  24. Wow, was NOT expecting that. Hell, there was even a newspaper report saying 1.2.....
