  1. We gave Morel 800K, pretty solid bonus for a guy that wasn't on our radar at all(via PSD and I saw an article on Twitter that verified it) A while back, I looked up P Jose Albertos and SS Isaac Parades, as it interested me that they were brought over for Instructs without any fanfare. Couldn't find anything related to bonuses, but I did see an article on each. Albertos hits 95 MPH and is 6'4. Paredes is from Mexico, the article called him a 5 tool player(fluff I guess?) But said he did get one of the largest bonuses to come out of Mexico. No number attached, but that definitely intrigues me even more on him. As a reminder, in Mexico, the player only receives 25% of the bonus, his team gets the rest. Its also much harder to finalize deals there and its not scouted nearly as much as the Dominican Republic. Julio Urias came from Mexico(we came close to signing him actually) but was not even listed in Barker's top 30 that year, due to lack of info. So who knows? Parades may be an elite guy for all we know.
  2. We don't need but one guy, but I'd definitely feel more comfortable with two. Counting on health is risky enough with pitching, probably more so coming off how healthy we stayed this past year. That said, we could add depth with the Mastersons of the world and I'd be quite fine honestly, after adding one of the group you mentioned.
  3. Jesse Sanchez ‏@JesseSanchezMLB 52s53 seconds ago Cionel Perez got struck out seven in 51-pitch outing. Norge Ruiz threw 40 pitches and struck out six. Each pitched 3 innings. #Cuba
  4. I'm not even sure which of those 2 I hope gets him. I'd pull for the Dodgers if I thought they'd leave their rotation alone at that point, but I doubt they would and I don't want to see them get him and make a trade for one of the Indian guys or someone else.
  5. I mean, he lives in Nashville, which is where the Winter Meetings are. I thought it was a definite he'd sign during them. Why? You think he has a reason to line up his signing for marketing purposes at the GM meetings? Nah, no real logic behind it. Just figured it lined up.
  6. I mean, he lives in Nashville, which is where the Winter Meetings are. I thought it was a definite he'd sign during them.
  7. I figured we'd go to that level if we got him because I figured anybody that was getting him was paying $210M for 7 years and i thought we might get him. that opt out is interesting. he'd be even older than greinke. could he get more than ~$120/4 at that point? maybe could get himself some more money on a lower AAV. I thought we had a shot at Scherzering him. He got 7/210, but it was set up like this....10 mill in 2015, 15 mill in 16-18, 35 mill in 19-21.....50 mill signing bonus-5 mill in 2015, and 15 mill each of 19-21. The 19-21 salaries of 35 mill apiece are paid in 7 different 15 mill installments between 2022-2028..... When Theo was talking about getting creative, this is what I was thinking he meant. And why I've always thought that the supposed 30 mill we have to spend can go a very long way.
  8. No deferments or anything. His 217 beats Scherzer's actual contract value of 191ish by quite a bit and even takes down Kershaw's 215. I kind of doubt anyone else was heading into that realm on him honestly, even if it was predicted he'd get that.
  9. Well, I didn't think we'd go to that level on him. Was kind of hoping beyond hope he'd take a bit less from us. But that's a bunch of money. He's got an opt out after 3 years too. At least it's time for some action now.
  10. Ruiz was 89-93 and Cionel Perez was 93-94 at the showcase. No report on Hernandez.
  11. The IFA money isn't likely affecting ML payroll. They made a serious run on Moncada and that was after our off season was over last year. There's got to be a separate fund they've got for it.
  12. Schwarber, one of Javy or Soler, both of Edwards and Underwood, plus one of Almora/McKinney? With his contract, I've got no clue. They may want more than that for all I know.
  13. I don't have confidence Preller deals him. I've thought Atlanta was our top option, but now I'm doubting that too. I don't see Miller in our plans, but I kind of thought Teheran would be. Will they trade both? I kind of see them trading Miller and seeing if Teheran can rebuild value again. That leaves Cleveland and I'm not sure they deal anyone either. Free Agent starting to seem much more likely to me, for our top acquisition and probably for our second guy as well.
  14. Yeah, I think one more addition is what we get, likely a small one. Throw in via trade probably. Between Cook and Brothers, I think we'll get a good showing out of one. Personally, I think CJ is going to be a big piece in the pen next year. Wood being tendered or not may help tell us a bit more. But Theo has said he doesn't see them putting money into the pen this off season and I believe him, as it comes in behind SP and CF on the needs list.
  15. Cool. Glad to apparently have Marquez, some extremely nice upside there. On a side note, Theo was at a showcase this weekend for P Jorge Hernandez and Norge Ruiz.
  16. They wouldn't trade DeLeon in a Hamels deal. We aren't trading for him.
  17. That's already more than I'd feel comfortable with on him. I really think Shark comes after Price and Greinke on my FA SP wish list.
  18. I refuse to look, but there's a guy on PSD that says the Cubs must of signed Brailyn Marquez, he's in a Cubs uniform on Facebook. As are 2 IF, Christopher Morel and Orian Nunez. I've got no idea who those 2 are, but Marquez is the best lefty in the class(Cubans aside) and we had been rumored to have an agreement with him.
  19. I was kind of thinking he'd retire during the season honestly.
  20. Sharma mentioned a while back he thought we'd trade for TWO starters and not sign a FA. That's always stuck in my mind. I think its doubtful, but I could see 2 trades, with Javy headlining one and Soler the other. Especially if we intend on replenishing depth with Cubans. It'd leave us needing CF and RF(unless Coghlan goes in as the starter). But it'd leave us room for Heyward/Gordon and a solid guy at the other spot.
  21. He's from Wisconsin and one reason he was rumored with us was the Midwestern stuff. He's about 500 miles from where he grew up. That may be why he took the deal.
  22. That's a pretty reasonable contract good for Detroit. For the Cubs this seems to mean 1 of 2 things. They either had no interest in Zimmermann at all or they are dead certain that they can get a guy of 2 that are better and or cheaper. 5/110 is a lot for a guy who is 7 years off his TJS when the procedure usually only lasts 7 to 8 years. It's a pretty big gamble for Detroit. There's plenty of money in baseball. Its less than most projections had him going for. Its a surprisingly low number for a guy like that to take this early.
  23. Morosi saying around 5/110 for Zimmermann. That's not bad, especially for a team like Detroit. Who I'd have thought would have seriously had to overpay to get a high tier guy early.
  24. You nailed it. They're like a year away from Phillying.
  25. The box score of this 91-1 college basketball game is something to behold: https://t.co/6nEEJJn3GS https://t.co/gCqYt8xfbJ 91-1. Morton seems like a solid player.
