  1. K's, Innings Pitched, Shutouts, Complete Games, K/BB ratio, quality starts, K/9, G/F, losses, winning % Just a couple of other categories besides wins that Carpenter was better in.
  2. I won't go in to how pathetic I think that comment was. I will say that Kile died from irregularities due to an enlarged heart. Please do not try to imply that his death was caused by drug usage. Despicable.
  3. So now players who used drugs in the early 80's are punks, and the Cardinals have more because of 4 players who may have used drugs, never mind that the best of the 4 was traded awy because of his alleged drug problems. Cubs players are angels, and Cards players are punk druggies...nice logic.
  4. I am sure for every punk player you identify on the Cardinals, the same can be said by Cardinal fans about your Cubs team. I personally do not believe that Albert is a punk player. You say the vast majority are punks, so name 15 out of the 25 players that are punks.
  5. I am sure you have some reason to claim he is 30 years old. You wouldn't just be speculating because of jealousy of how good he is would you? You caught me man. I am so jealous of Albert Pujols. Amazing how some people's brains work, or fail to... The reason I would say he is 30 is because 1) he looks at least 30 2) he is an immigrant who had a lot to gain by lying about his age (free education?) 3) of course its because im jealous of albert pujols!!!!!!!!! I guess I am not an expert and guessing someones age by looking at them. I do know that Pujols still had acne as recently as last year, which isn't too typical of 30 year olds. I believe his family came to the US when he was 14 or 15. I am not sure that gaining a free education would be as important as earning money for the family. Either way, there hasn't been any discrepancies found with his birth certificate documentation, even under the added scrutiny post 9/11 that lead to many latin american players aging. Pujols doesn't follow the typical pattern of latino players that lie about thier age. Usually they claim an earlier age to enter a MLB baseball academy and look more appealing. On a side note, he would have also had to fabricate the story of how he met his wife if he were lying about his age. To make a long story short, he lied about his age after meeting his future wife at a bar. He was only 18 but claimed he was 21. I don't have a link, but the story was about him not being honest about his age, and his future wife not telling him she had a child with down syndrome. Until I see some evidence, I will continue to believe that Pujols birth certificate is correct. I get a little tired of writers occasionally claiming Pujols is older than he claims with the only support being that he couldn't be that good at such a young age.

  7. I pledge to vote 500 times a day for the players I believe are the most deserving. I will not be stuffing the ballot box for any one team.
  8. I admit that I lost interest in this thread at page three and quit reading. Just wanted to point out that I thought it was pretty impressive that Pujols called his shot. When I was watching the game, I thought it was a pretty questionable move to toss the bat. After hearing his reason for it, I think it is amusing. I do not necessarily enjoy the posing after hitting home runs, but as long as they clear the wall easily it doesn't bother me too much. I do get upset when a player poses on a ball that barely makes it out, or worse poses, and turns a double into a singl.
  9. Well duh, if you are reporting from St. Louis, you have to be in St. Louis, and regardless of the outcome of the game, life sucks in St. Louis. Note to St. Louis, everyone else figured out how to bread and fry ravioli, you ain't got nothin' anymore. The rest of the world knows how to cook pizza to. What is your point? Life is actually pretty nice in St. Louis right now. The weather is nice and the baseball is great.
  10. How many games has Pujols cost his team on defense this year?
  11. Not as much as I love what Jacque Jones brings to the Cubs.
  12. It is too early to start hating him...hopefully.
  13. Do you think game one was not an important one to win in a round robin?
  14. FYI - the 6/3 game is completely cold out along with 3 of the other Cubs/Cards games. All of the other Cubs/Cards games have single tix/SRO. There are 5 complete sell outs and 18 other with singles/SRO.
  15. I would prefer to have Molina. I think his .641 CS % makes up for the offensive difference. I think Molina will make up some of the ground offensivelyin his second full season. I really like his potential, given that he is only 23 years old.
  16. Would any of you rather have Yadier Molina as your catcher instead of Barrett?
  17. Career OPS+ Pujols 169 ARod 145 Besides his superior production, Pujols appears to have a better clubhouse presence than ARod. I would take Pujols over ARod if I had the choice between the two.
  18. That is a hilarious quote. Would have loved to been watching the game when he said that one.
  19. I have a problem with using steroid suspicion as a criteria for HOF eligibility. There are so many unknowns related to steroid use that it is difficult to know what the overall effect of steroid usage may have been. Also, I think there are a lot of misconceptions out there related to steroid use. Many assume that you can tell by looking at someone if they have used steroids. Maybe the very muscular players are more likely to have used. But how do you explain all of the players that have tested positive thus far in MLB. None looked like a user to me. As for Cal Ripken, he could have benefited the most from the use of steroids. The following questions need to be answered before I am willing to say a player should not be eligible for the HOF based on steroid suspicion. Q: What effect did McGwire's (or any player's) steroid use have on his home run totals? Q: How many pitchers gained an advantage from steroid use? Q: What positive effect did steroid use have on pitchers who used? Q: How many hitters used steroids? Q: Did McGwire, Sosa, Bonds, Clemens, Boone (all mentioned in Canseco's book) use steroids? Q: Do steroids have more of a performance enhancing effect than greenies? Steroid use and the use of amphetamines became a part of the game, due in large part because MLB did not test for it. I don't know that players gained an unfair advantage if they used, because you can't determine how widespread the usage was. You can't quantify what benefits were gained by hitters from the usage of either. You can't quantify what benefits were gained by pitchers from the usage of either. Is using steroids or amphetamines one time enough to keep a player out? There are so many variables and the game was unregulated for so long, that I believe that the HOF vote should be based on the numbers a player put up versus his contemporaries.
  20. This is the only gambling website I have found with 2006 baseball odds. Click the baseball link for the current odds being offered. http://betonsports.com/betting_lines.shtml#

  22. I think that the additions the Cardinals have made and Rolen's return to the lineup should put the Cardinals at close to the same level that they were last year. FWIW, the oddsmakers have the Cardinals and Mets as the betting favorites to be the NL team in the WS. 24. Steve Phillips did a mock Yankees GM press conference today on ESPN. Not too terribly interesting. Just stated mostly the obvious. He is supposed to do the Cubs tomorrow afternoon.
  25. I don't think the Cards forget about Edmonds if you replace him with the defense of Johnny Damon.
