  1. It's the ring-tone on my phone during the baseball season. Sometimes I start to get embarrassed when it goes off in public, but then I realize that I don't give a damn. Most of the people I know find it funny because it's so corny, yet something that only I would have. Come to think of it, what does that say about me? :-k It's the ring tone on my phone too. Mine as well. :good:
  2. Len, Thanks for taking time for us. I was just wondering about your "Oh Baby" signature call. Is that something you have done your whole career, or did you pick it up with the Cubs? I love it. It fits right in with "Hey Hey" and "Holy Cow."
  3. Fred, you are good. The pitch just left his hand and you posted the walk. :-k
  4. Wow, 25 years since that magical '84 team. My first year as a Cubs fan. Then the Padres had to rip my heart out!! :banghead: I still hate the Padres for that.
  5. Corey Brock of MLB.com reports that the Padres have signed right-hander Chad Gaudin to a minor league deal. He'll head to San Diego on Sunday for the official signing and a bullpen session. The Padres are only required to pay $400K of the $2MM he's owed for 2009, with the Cubs picking up the rest of the tab. Gaudin went 2-1 with a 10.26 ERA this spring, but he might just find a spot in the Friars' bullpen once he works through whatever was plaguing him during camp. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/
  6. Stark talked to an executive of a team that has Jake Peavy on its radar. This exec noted that teams did not overpay in deals for Rich Harden and Johan Santana, so the Padres may not be able to demand a ridiculous bounty for Peavy. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/
  7. Cubs could add Jake Peavy mid season If the need is there and Jake Peavy is still available in June or July, chances are good the Cubs will try to land him. -- Chicago Tribune http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-06-cubs-preview-chicago-apr06,0,2632113.story Peavy speculation heating up again.
  8. More Peavy Chatter By Tim Dierkes [April 6 at 8:53am CST] How about a little more Jake Peavy chatter, courtesy of Tom Krasovic of the San Diego Union-Tribune? Krasovic sums up the situation: Peavy and GM Kevin Towers hope the Padres will contend and trading the ace will not become an issue. But with Peavy earning nearly 30% of the payroll and the Padres looking questionable, there's a good chance this will come up again near the trade deadline. Krasovic adds that the Dodgers and Cubs "interest both the Padres and Peavy." He says "a person close to Peavy said those two remain the most likely choices for a trade." Peavy still prefers the National League, though I can envision a potential match with the Angels a few months from now. Here on April 6th, what's your Peavy prediction? http://www3.signonsandiego.com/stories/2009/apr/06/1s6padres231212-season-uncertainty/?padres
  9. I'm sure he is not 100%. My guess is that he won't be for most of the season. That has been my concern all winter. A lot of fans are banking on Harden to put up big numbers. My gut tells me to expect a Wood/Prior outcome. Maybe thats just the Cubs fan in me. :D
  10. worse Simply unreal. Fell behind a lot of hitters, toped out in the upper 80s and had Fukudome in CF. Not like Lily was a prize yesterday either. If it keeps up like this, I hope Hendry has the green light to go after Peavy. Hardens health concerns me. Ted is just Ted. He always gives up a lot of homers. After all, it is still just Spring Training.

  12. Mr. Peavy, your table is ready!!!!! :-" The Cubs need you.
  13. Padres GM Kevin Towers had this to say regarding trading Jake Peavy midseason: "If we start spinning our wheels, we might engage in discussions." ESPN's Buster Olney also wrote about Peavy this morning, noting that the Cubs were "much closer than anybody realized at the time" to acquiring Peavy this winter. Towers gave Olney a similar quote about Peavy - he doesn't want to think about it right now but if the team is out of contention it's possible. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/
  14. Cubs Release Paul Bako, Mike Stanton By Tim Dierkes [March 30 at 12:04pm CST] According to a press release, the Cubs released catcher Paul Bako and reliever Mike Stanton today. So, it looks like Koyie Hill has the team's backup catcher job. Bako, 36, hit .364/.400/.515 in 35 spring plate appearances. Stanton, 41, allowed six runs and 13 hits in 8.3 innings.
  15. From Cubs.com board........."Watching the game on mlb ticket and the Rockies announcer just said that the Cubs Peavy talks are heating up again ... Anyone have any new news on this . Peavy maybe a Cub by opening day :) " Anyone else watching this game that can confirm this? I trust people here a WHOLE LOT MORE than on Cubs.com.
  16. Brewers third baseman Bill Hall expects his team to pursue Padres ace Jake Peavy if available this summer. Unlike C.C. Sabathia, Peavy is more than a rental. I hope Peavy won't waive his NTC for the Brewers. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=4005781&name=gammons_peter

  19. Cubs Vizcaino to Oakland? The Cubs' chances of trading Luis Vizcaino are slim because of the overpriced contract, though if they packaged him with a prospect, they could explore a deal with Oakland for shortstop Bobby Crosby, who makes $5.25 million and is being shopped after Orlando Cabrera signed. -- Chicago Tribune
