  1. Indians Set To Acquire Mark DeRosa, Trade Jeff Stevens Posted by Tony at 12:44 PM No official word on this at the moment, but apparently the Indians have agreed to a deal in principle to acquire infielder Mark DeRosa from the Cubs in exchange for reliever Jeff Stevens and a few other minor leaguers. No word on how many other players will be traded or what minor leaguers the Indians are sending out, but this is what I have learned as of now. http://www.indiansprospectinsider.com/2008/12/indians-set-to-acquire-mark-di-rosa.html
  2. What if we get Peavy for the DeRosa prospects, and no one very valuable to the major league team and go into the season with this roster? OF: Soriano, Johnson, Fukudome, Gathright, Bradley IF: Ramirez, Theriot, Fontenot, Miles, Lee, another bad backup IF C: Soto, Koyie Hill SP: Peavy, Dempster, Zambrano, Lilly, Marshall RP: Gregg, Marmol, Samardzija, Wuertz, Cotts, Guzman, Vizcaino Gone in trades would be: Marquis, Pie, Cedeno, DeRosa, minor leaguers from Cleveland, and a few other lower level guys from Cubs. Harden?
  3. Like I said, I think it was 2 years 5 Million. My radio was cutting in and out. Unless someone else can verify it, don't quote me on the contract.
  4. Hey Banedon......Believe. It's ok, you're a Cubs fan. Tell yourself "we are getting Peavy."
  5. With the signing of Miles, I see Dero and Cedeno gone. I think the Cubs are moving in on Peavy.
  6. That is exactly what Levine said. A Precurser to Peavy.
  7. 2 years 5 million, I think is what he said.
  8. I am. I never really thought it was "dead" to begin with. I think Hendry told Towers to shelve the talks for Peavy until later in the offseason when he could swing a decent trade for Marquis. If Towers found another trading partner for Peavy, then go for it. But I think from Peavys perspective, he was telling Towers "the Cubs or nothing." JMO
  9. That would be the only way I would trade Marquis at this point. If you are going to trade a stating picher, you need to have one to replace him.
  10. I think this buys Hendry some time. Sign Bradley, try to trade Marquis and then he can decide who exactly is expendable in a trade for Peavy. IMO
  11. Best case: Peavy DOES have to be traded for payroll purposes. Angles sign Tex Yanks sign Sheets Sox sign Lowe If this all takes place, Towers could come back to Hendry. Who knows?
  12. I'm still not convinced this deal is dead. I think it was a matter of Hendry telling Towers "We can't make this deal now. Let us Get our RF'er and try to trade Marquis. If you get an offer that you like and Peavy agrees too, then go ahead and do it. If not, I will get back to you and see what we can work out."
  13. In the long run, that just may get him here.
  14. http://www.fannation.com/si_blogs/hot_stove/posts/31661-agent-peavy-frustrated-with-padres WOW. That tells me Jake really wants to be a Cub. He could force Towers hand here. I like it.
  15. 11:30am: Towers still hasn't heard back from Hendry on the Peavy deal. Ken Rosenthal says eight to ten teams have called on DeRosa, adding the A's to the mix of known suitors.
  16. I don't understand why Hendry can't just trade for Peavy and trade Marquis later on in the offseason when all the big name pitchers are signed. It seems that would be the smartest thing to do. A team that misses out on the upper tier type pitcher would be more willing to take on more of Marquis salary.
  17. If true, GREAT JOB BY HENDRY. It's too bad we have to give up Dero.
  18. It looks like the market for Marquis may be heating up. CC off the block. Lowe close to signing with the Yanks. Burnett and the Braves making progress. Who else is left? Sheets? Who knows about him. This may have been what Hendry has been waiting for. Marquis is part of that 2nd tier group that is available. Maybe he can squeeze more money out of a potential trade partner.
  19. Maybe Dero won't be traded at all.......
  20. 9:45am: LEN3 says the Twins discussed DeRosa with the Cubs yesterday. The Cubs will present the Twins with a list of pitchers they like, which will be influenced by the Padres' preferences.
  21. 8:31pm: Jeff Passan: the lone holdup in this complicated trade is the Cubs moving Marquis. A deal is not imminent, though, according to Towers.
  22. Well, if Hendry is speaking to the media and Towers is doing a radio interview, then maybe something has went down......
  23. My guess is things will heat up again later on this evening.
