  1. I could never stand Biggio. All of those years he got away with that crap, and then when EY (yeah, that's right, Eric Young) tried it for us in that LA game where those drunks took the hat out of the bullpen, he gets called for it. It's about time.
  2. How ironic.. that was my 66th post... :D
  3. No question. I'd cheer for him if the ceremony was tomorrow. I know Sammy did some bad things, but I also know that many fans were already irritated because he was falling off of his godly pedestal and many were basically waiting to jump on him, including the media and the Cubs org, which made those things even worse. It also came at the end of a frustrating season. But set all of that aside for a minute. Remember that day when Sammy hit the 2 bombs, I think it was 59 and 60... the Trib headline was "He's Got You Babe"...? That's the Sammy I'll remember.
  4. Good first ball hitters are good first ball hitters because they choose their pitches carefully, not because they happen to swing at the first pitch. That is, their first ball avg is high because they only swing at first pitches they like. If anything, they're more patient. -Thank you Moneyball
  5. I have 2 Upper Deck Box seats for Wednesday's game (8/24) vs. Atlanta. I bought these months ago and didn't realize until today that I would be out of town that day  . It should be a pretty good game and it's going to be on WGN. Plus, I don't think these seats are available any longer.. especially at this price. Section: 406 Row: 6 Seats: 1 and 2 I just want to make my money back on these. The face value is $38 each. If you're interested, pm me and we can work out the payment and pickup. I live in Skokie, so it's just a short trainride from the ballpark. Thanks.
  6. Am I a bad person for wanting Clemens to be the one? I really stopped liking him ever since his 2000 "I thought it was the ball" broken-bat-fragment-throwing incident with Piazza.
  7. I also love the Cubs pinstripes, but I wouldn't mind seeing a reappearance of the Cubs bear face that was used through the 80s and early 90s I think. It's the one on the sleeve, really cool logo.
  8. I too have no proof of sterioid usage. Regardless, sterioids alone wouldn't have accounted for his lackluster season. I think Sammy's a confidence player. The booing really seems to get to him. Sure, he was on the decline in his career, but I think the boos really sped up the whole process, imo.
  9. I'm actually pretty tired of the 'he's hurt' excuse as a catch-all for all of Aramis' lack of hustle and poor judgement. Now, before everyone jumps on me, I'm not talking about running your hardest on a grounder to 2nd. I know that Aramis is hurt and I know that it's important to the team that he doesn't further aggravate his injury, but I saw first hand his laziness when I went to the first game of the Cubs-Cards series. Aramis popped up to shallow right along the line and didn't start running until the ball was just about to drop. That isn't him protecting his leg.. it's him being lazy. He's probably my favorite player along with Z, and he was actually my preseason MVP because I see his likeness to Pujols as well, but his inability (if not reluctance) to seize the opportunity of an extra base is killing me. Would I go so far as to call him a paradox? No. Is he the only one on the team lacking fundamentals? Of course not. But it's tough when it's Aramis making the fundamentally unsound plays as opposed to a scrub like Macias.

  11. i actually gasped upon watching. just awful. I'll be keeping them in my prayers
  12. That's actually really hillarious. There's a chance I'll be there tomorrow... I'll see if I can work that out. This should be a sticky - we could give tips on whoever's going to the next game
  13. I have the exact same feeling. I just wish they would will them all or lose them all. haha
  14. I was considering actually wearing a paper bag at the game today, and trust me, I booed as hard as anyone when they announced that the Macias-Perez OBP-pit would be leading off, and maybe it was because it was St. Louis, but when the game ended, I just felt so optomistic. And hey, if we can only sweep the rest of the season series, we might still have a shot. :D
  15. I didn't wear the paper bag, which means I'm 15-2 when I don't wear one. hahaha.
  16. Where's Vance? I want to hear his Yoda Cubs Avatar say: "Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to pain and suffering..."
  17. Pujols. Of course, our players can never turn out to be superstars...
  18. wait wait wait... you want to see the monstrosity known as the Chicago Cubs up close?!?! ...or do you just like wrigley :D
  19. How about I just get really drunk and vomit on macias?
  20. Hey, stop being such a pessimist, dude! All we gotta do is get outta this funk and sweep Stl and Houston and we'll be right back in this. P.S. I drive a Chevy, and I hope you'll choose Chevy too.
  21. Ah "Go Cobs"... who could resist?
  22. I'll be there too. I was actually thinking about wearing the bag and I do in fact have an authentic Bears helmet at home, but I think it might be too hot, haha. I was considering brining a huge "FREE MURTON" sign, but it'd be kinda dumb if he was actually playing.
  23. Well let's see... We traded the big slugger who can't hit the breaking ball. We have several (at times) pitchers who throw flames but can't locate We have the older, softer-throwing starter who shows the younger pitchers the ropes (trust me here, I'm not saying Maddux is anywhere near that guy's level) and we just brought up the speed demon who can't get on base (although he wasn't too bad today) All we need is that manager and a Korean groundscrew... at least we've got fans and Wrigley.
  24. Analyzing a situation doesn't mean you take cheap shots when not warranted, and it also means that you think critically, not be critical. Thinking critically, you would say that Aramis is playing through pain and thus shouldn't be expected to run flat out to 1B on a ground ball to third. His bat is more important that making it a close play, given the risk. Critical thinking tells you that Murton has command of the zone, and thus could be a valuable ML player, and at the very least is the best option in the OF right now when put against Holla and Macias. Critical thinking tells you that it's stupid to call up a guy who's missed 9 weeks with a bad ankle injury just for the sake of it. Critical thinking. Not just criticism. I realize that one makes for better talk radio, but I'm tired of people taking Stone's word for gospel. It's not, and it's seeming more and more obvious that he has a big axe to grind with this organization. Excellent post and very well said. His bitterness isn't hidden by his claims of objectivity. Please show me Bruce Levine's career MLB stats. Thank you. The vitriol is getting a little thick in here. LOL @ the critical thinking reference. Critical thinking means not jumping to conclusions about Murton either way. When I saw this topic come up I myself had a little  . I too get the impression that Stonie has a bone to pick with the organization. I'm not here to argue for or against his firing last year, but I don't think I was the only one who sensed a biting tone in his voice in the booth toward the end of last season. Also, broad and harsh statements suggesting that Wood consider selling used cars and that certain players are lazy doesn't make you sound like an objective analyst - it makes you sound bitter. Wheras I used to really respect what Stone had to say, these days, I can't help but get the notion that he feels like he's the guy with all of the answers to all of our woes all of the time. Is he upset that he was fired, or that he isn't our manager/pitching coach? If in fact he does know the answers, he should get in the dugout and put his advice to use- I'm willing to try just about anything.
