  1. How dare you question Steve Stone! Hold on a second, Stone's saying Zambrano is going to throw a slider away here...
  2. This is bat guano crazy. The Cardinals ARE NOT GOOD. In addition to not being good they are trailing 2 other teams in the division. Yeah but they sucked last year too though. And lookitt what happened. Also they didn't suck last year. They sucked a hell of a lot less. Chris Carpenter really helps...
  3. I would actually prefer to get into a two team race with the cardinals. They have a much more difficult September than either us or Milwaukee, have no pitching staff, and we get to play them more. We're going to win the division, guys. We may not be a great team, but in the NL Central, we have enough to make it to the playoffs where we can hopefully get hot.
  4. The long island ducks are a complete laughing stock. Offerman, Edgardo Alfonso, John Rocker, Carl Everett, and a bunch of other has-beens
  5. If the equation was simply: "Win with Koyie, lose with Kendall" then no one would start Kendall. Ever. However, with all due respect, it is a foolish assertion to believe that simply putting Koyie Hill in the lineup makes the team win. There are hundreds of lurking variables that cannot possibly be taken into account that can affect the outcome of any given game. But for an example, take a look at when Hill was playing -- many of his starts took place during our ridiculous hot streak. Here's a question for you: Think of the difference Kendall helps the team score vs. how many runs Hill helps the team score. Then think about whether or not that is greater than the amount of runs Zambrano gives up with Kendall catching vs. Hill catching. Over enough time, the amount of runs Zambrano gives up with each catcher should be close to the same number, while Hill's anemic sub .200 OBP (or whatever the hell it is) will continue to be a nearly automatic out in the lineup.
  6. I say 5 games, in line with Antonio Alfonseca's 2003 "asault with a belly" as Dusty put it. Players must pay for using such blubber for the wrong reasons.
  7. Kendall has been doing very well for us: .300/.402/.386 in 70 ABs Which I might add, is pretty close to his career numbers (.298/.376/.395) I don't think there should be any question as to whether or not Hill will be playing at all...
  8. 1. Score more runs
  9. Update: President Bush ends up calling Bonds and according to Tony Snow says "You've always been a great hitter and you broke a great record" Very careful choice of words...
  10. Not much love for Vance there. I found the parts about LA funny only b/c I'm from here. lol so did I and I've never been there. Ripping on Andre Dawson's do? Ouch. I still think Vance will pull through
  11. I'm getting sick to my colon just thinking about that...
  12. (Excuse me, I just saw the score) HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
  13. Pedro rivals Koufax for having the best single 5 year run. I'd agree with that, but those 5 years were basically all Koufax had, no? Pedro might win out on longevity. I'm pretty sure Sandy's arm was shot
  14. just for fun, name your 12 A dozen was just an offhand comment to dismiss Murton's claim that Bonds as the greatest player, I'd certainly put Barroid in the top 10, but I'll play along. In no order, Ruth, Williams, Mays, Cobb, Musial, Clemens, Aaron, W. Johnson, Gehrig, Koufax, Matthewson, Hornsby, Speaker So Clemens is the only player who began playing in the past 50 years that ranks among the all-time greats? You can accuse people of being stuck in the present, but don't you think you might be overrating the past? Good point, Tim. JMO, I wouldn't include Clemens without including Maddux and Pedro
  15. Everyone knows what's wrong with him. He has a knee injury that he says won't be 100 percent until at least the offseason. The organization made a plan for him that involved regular days off, and they've stuck to that. Exactamundo. Knee injuries are a bitch. I hurt my knee two years ago and it still gives me all kinds of problems on very random days. 5 knee surgeries, 2 re-con, and three arthro...they just DON'T get better Yep, which is exactly why I'm not on the "WHY ISN'T RAMIREZ PLAYING EVERYDAY!!!" bandwagon. Knees can damage one's career faster than any other ailment I think in baseball. Cases in point: Mickey Mantle could have been the greatest player of all time had he not hurt his knees. Andre Dawson would have been a first ballot HOFer had he not destroyed his knees. He probably also would have been if he didn't play 81 games in Montreal, which also, in turn eventually messed up his knees. In short, the Expos suck.
  16. Not to get all political, but in case anyone was interested, Nancy Pelosi praised Bonds ("Tonight, Barry Bonds etched his name into baseball's history books and took his rightful place among sport's immortals,"), this makes sense, most likely because she's SF's rep, and most SF citizens probably like Bonds. Interestingly, the President did not call Barry. Tony Snow said that he went to bed early and probably didn't watch the game. There were also some backhanded jabs at steroid use. Also, anyone see the cover of the New York Post? http://www.nypost.com/
  17. Proof that obesity starts at a young age...
  18. We are using 1998 for both, right? Olerud made 385 outs, creating 9.61 runs per 27 outs. Sosa 480 and 8.82. And Sosa's OPS was slightly higher. The runs created formulas are what should be used. But most of us don't tote those around with us or can quickly calculate them on the spot. When confronted with OPS your response must be quick. SLG*OBP is something most of us can handle. lest I sound too much like a Sosa homer (which I'm not): Sosa (1998 MVP) = 156.8 RC McGwire = 179.9 RC Sosa's team went the playoffs (albeit barely), while McGwire's did not. Not that those who vote for MVP look at runs created anyway, but we all know that, despite a few exceptions, MVPs play on playoff teams.
  19. It seems like he would be a great pickup with that $1m salary... but won't he be very attractive to other teams as well? Is he a free agent after this season?
  20. DAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYUUUUMMMMMMMNNNNN :P
  21. I just love his pointless comments. Last year in the playoffs my friend and I were watching BBTN, just waiting for Dustyisms. After a highlight was shown where So Taguchi hit a homer, Dusty goes, "The dude can hit a fastball..." Who can't at this level, Dusty? (Except Koyie Hill)
  22. Got my vote* *even though you sucked
  23. The point about the hinge is an interesting one. I guess I never realized that it's not a standard armpad.
  24. Can anyone give me a scouting report on what to expect from Patterson? Anyone know what his OF defense has been like? How good a base stealer? How fast?
