  1. Crazier things have happened.
  2. Cubs free agent target: Phil Maton (msn.com) Thoughts on Phil Maton? 2 years 12 million.
  3. Have a sinking feeling that Ohtani will end up being a Dodger after all. Poor Jays fans.
  4. Well at least he isn't with the Dodgers or Braves...
  5. Is this legit? Ohtani Free Agency Update: Mets, Rangers, Dodgers Exit $600M Race for Two-Way Star (msn.com) Dodgers really out after 600 million?
  6. C Richard needs to roll the dice with the random PED testing odds to be relevant.
  7. Neither Seager /Baez are going to put up better numbers than Castro for the next year or two, that's why I didn't bring up Baez. Seager can always transition to 2B/3B in a year or so. Uribe was a pleasant surprise for them and should be around again next year. The outfield, as you mentioned, is jammed now even more so when you consider Dee Gordon should be playing CF rather than 2B. The clubs match up well. Both clubs would be dealing from a position of strength. Cubs might have to sweeten the deal by including another prospect and/or take on a bad contract to get it done. It's not everyday that you get an opportunity to trade for impact talent like Puig. That puts Puig in center while Alcantara moves to 2B and Baez would get a full season at SS to sink or swim. Russell will be ready by then. If Bryant doesn't stick at 3B there are still options to fill that need, which in turn, could allow Schwarber to concentrate on catching and not get rushed into playing left field. Renteria would be the perfect person to get the most out of Puig and help smooth some of his abrasive behavior. Can't help but think that having Puig and Soler on the same team could bring positive results. Colletti is a tool and there are rumors that is going to get canned with Friedman from Tampa coming in to GM.
  8. If Puig is dealt to Chicago the centerpiece will be Castro and he will slide into Ramirez's spot at SS. Anything less than that will cause the dodgers fan base to riot. They are in win now mode and they are not going to want to wait on prospects to develop. They currently have good prospects that are blocked on the major league level. If it's true that he is being shopped one has to wonder what kind of clubhouse cancer he is. Young and stupid I know but enough to run him out of town after 2 years? Clashes with Mattingly + being benched for game 4 along with major maturity issues.... They have logjam in the outfield, need for a SS and in need of bullpen help. Puig will return more value than any other outfielder in their organization. This rumor might have traction. Castro + Bullpen arms + ??? could maybe get this done.
  9. And at a middle infield position with 6 years of team control, that is an EXTREMELY valuable asset. Soriano at Baez's age was also playing second base.
  10. I've been on the Dombrowski's wagon since the Cabrera and Willis deal. He got cheap Cabrera control for I think 3 years at the time of the deal. Willis was a quality starting pitcher at the time of the deal. He couldn't for see Willis tanking. Dealing Granderson in a 3 way deal in 2010 netted Max Scherzer , Daniel Schlereth and Austin Jackson. Didn't like the Delmon Young deal in 2010.
  11. Castellanos is the real deal that will have more value at 3rd rather than a corner outfield spot. I've posted bitching an moaning around the all star break wanting to move Garza and Barney to the tigers with a return package headlined by Castellanos and/or Porcello. Castellanos is good at baseball and will get a lot of opportunities in that tiger lineup. How much rust is on his 3rd base glove? That is the question. His is more likely to put up Terry Pendleton/Kevin Seitzer numbers instead someone like Kevin Orie.
  12. Way back before the duck dynasty phenomenon. I stood in line to clear canadian customs with Phil Robertson in Saskatoon Saskatchewan. He was a celebrity back then to us waterfowlers. Needless to say I cleared customs much faster than Phil, his beard didn't have much grey in it then.
  13. Is there hope that A Wainwright's recent woes and Lance Lynne getting shelled carry over to next year? Will the loss of Dave Duncan finally show?
  14. Mr Murphy probably will turn into Murphy's law for the Cubs....However there are some precedents that could give cub fans false hope. The realistic precedents that come to mind are Jamey Carroll and Scott Brosius. While they are not former all stars they both had value. You could safely say Murphy could fit into that group pre breakout. The top tier would be Luis Gonzalez and Jose Bautista which happen like once or twice a decade. Will it happen? Doubt it but crazier things have happened. Like Rick Wilkins hitting 30 homeruns in 1993 at the age of 25.
  15. Temper the enthusiasm for NL DH until Abreu is signed or Vogelbach is much closer to the bigs. Although seeing T Wood hitting everyday would be fun.
  16. Non punitive adjustments aren't working. Seriously, how hard is it to remember how many out there are and what the hell am I going to do if I get a ball hit toward me.
  17. Castro is working on a 0 for 17 run right now combined with an ID10T fielding move. Does he have to rape the pope to get some time on the bench?
  18. Someone needs to get Castro's undivided attention. Dale should have just pulled him immediately.
  19. Castro.... Maybe he needs to sit on the pine for 2 to 3 games. That was Lakes ball and he could have thrown Jay out.
  20. Why was Dejesus bunting for at base hit? FFS Rizzo just make contact.
  21. At some point the organization is going to have to spend prospects to make the club competitive. Collecting talent has been refreshing and it's made the minor league game threads exciting. If anything, Theo's signature so far in his tenure has been to restructure the core pieces of the org and accumulate talent. What will make or break team Theo will be how these talents are spent. It's a whole different ballgame transitioning from playing the waiting game (selling) to actively competing with other orgs for pieces that could put us over the top. Making mistakes spending prospects combined with having some wash out will be the end of the honeymoon. There has yet to be a huge defining trade or huge free agent signing for team Theo to put their footprint on the org. That footprint is coming this offseason and I hope they don't shank it!
  22. Need some help - stuck at work and at the mercy of fox play by play. Did Arietta squeeze home Barney?
