  1. He isn't perfect, but he's another solid option which is all we can ask for.
  2. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/8790658/Sources:-Cubs-land-Gregg-in-deal-with-Marlins
  3. Woohoo. "Totally false" (said a Padres source).
  4. When is the arb deadline?
  5. If he gets us two picks.... Speechless.
  6. http://chicagocubsonline.com/archives/2008/11/newsrumors1112.php#more Hmm...that would be an interesting situation if Pie wasn't even in the deal. I wonder what else he could bring on the trade market.
  7. Nice to see they have catcher interest, leaving the Castillo option open.
  8. No, I didn't ask again as I really wasn't in a position to. We really just had a 15 second conversation today, hopefully I will get a chance to get more in depth tomorrow. Donnie, no offense, but colour me cyncial. You may very well be telling the truth, and I want to believe you, but the inner Cub fan in me tells me not to without proof. So I hope you are no offended by this. I will say this: if you and your source is correct and it happens I will glady eat crow. Well, stranger things have happened. I remember we had a random poster swear to us that Zambrano had just been extended and everyone wrote him off (and I think the thread might have been locked), and it ended up happening the next morning.
  9. No, I didn't ask again as I really wasn't in a position to. We really just had a 15 second conversation today, hopefully I will get a chance to get more in depth tomorrow. No problem, it's cool.
  10. And since your on... No word yet on anyone in the offer?
  11. Congratulations DonnieD, you've passed my background check of previous posts with flying colors. 8-)

  13. Mets are the main team rumored to be interested, Rosenbloom is just saying "what if that rumor comes true".
  14. Anyone else remember the whole "Bedard AND Roberts" to the Cubs rumors from desipio last offseason?
  15. Don't remember who the author was, but that's the same site claiming we had reached a deal for Roberts and Bedard last year.
  16. Will everyone be alright with giving up Vitters? It's inevitable, you know we had to actually be offering SOMEONE really attractive for the Padres to take us serious. This sort of (partially) coincides with what Donnie D was saying about the Braves. People are overlooking that he said his source will be a potential one for 3 more days, so i'm assuming it's a player (Demp?).
  17. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/2008-11-06-peavy_N.htm?csp=34 With hearing how impatient the Braves are being in this deal, it's obviously them. If no trade has been made by the 14th then maybe it means the Braves are out? I thought it'd be us, since we want to get a deal with Dempster done before that date? There was an article a day or two talking about the Braves impatience and how they wanted to push for a deal before the deadline, so i'm just about positive it's them. They still are planning to make a run at a decent pitcher during FA, with Peavy or without. And if it's without, then they are going for two.
  18. I just saw this old article was updated a few hours ago, and i'm not sure if this was in it before: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/2008-11-06-peavy_N.htm?csp=34 With hearing how impatient the Braves are being in this deal, it's obviously them. If no trade has been made by the 14th then maybe it means the Braves are out?
  19. This guy says Demp will take less money and less years if we get Peavy: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20081110.WBbaseball20081110165559/WBStory/WBbaseball

  21. It actually started out with "before winter meetings" and then got closer as talks got heavier. This guy also says "probably before thanksgiving", so I don't think nothing has changed from what he's heard.
  22. http://www.ajc.com/services/content/shared-blogs/ajc/braves/entries/2008/11/09/rejuvenated_as.html This is the guy who's story prompted the whole "Gorkys is included stuff", and everyone seems to have ran with that, so it's nice to see he gives the Cubs a fighting chance still.
  23. Combining that logic with last year's thread, we should have signed Brian Robert's 8000 times. Considering the fact that Roberts himself said that he was told he was on his way to Chicago at one point (by his agent, I believe), I am pretty sure there was fire. Not to mention the fact that the Cubs were trying to adjust their lineup at the end of spring training for Roberts's "imminent" arrival. No, I am pretty sure that was all BigBird or Peace or Belkast or someone. Roberts agent was the one to come out with the quote: "If Brian Roberts has been traded to Chicago, this is the first we've heard of it". Not saying there wasn't any smoke though.
  24. That was posted yesterday morning just so you guys know.
