  1. I think Castillo will be a must if i'm the Padres. Coming off of a future's game appearance, etc. I'm sure he has great value as a trading chip, playing that position. Don't know if it's been posted, but Bruce has his blog up with most of the same Shark info he told us here: http://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/901
  2. I'm loving that every single sign is pointing at this possibly being a huge ripoff in our favor. I thought I could see it a little more even with Shark, but without him it almost seems like any deal is a mammoth steal. Hopefully they pick us over ATL, and that Peavy realizes and vetoes trades to Atlanta because it hurts their major league club.
  3. I think that's the guy they wanted from us a couple years ago when we had interest in Greene. He tried for Pie twice, I believe.
  4. http://www.braves-nation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13039&page=71 What utter garbage. WHIP, ERA and... plate appearances per extra-base hit? Why don't you just throw win percentage in there, too. Or uniform color. Nonsense. Oh, and if I had PI I'd test this, but I'm almost entirely convinced that he just "normalized" Peavy's 2007 season to Turner Field using Baseball-Reference.com. Trash, trash, trash. Did I say that clearly enough? Nonsense. All of us are dumber for having read it. Please remove it from the Internet before it kills again. I agree. That's why I posted it in the first place..it's so outlandish.
  5. http://www.braves-nation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13039&page=71 By the way, the following quote came from the same guy So Sheets/Haren/Hamels are "second tier" guys and Zambrano is an elite ace? He kind of lost credibility right there. Haren/Hamels/Sheets were all filthy and top pitchers last season. I'd be thrilled if Peavy matched any of those guys Yeah, it seems like he assumes his iffy road splits will continue rather than accepting them as an anomaly.
  6. I'm reading a Braves board and one of their big saber guys projects Peavy to have a 4.03 ERA and a 1.3 WHIP next season (if he were a Brave). http://www.braves-nation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13039&page=71
  7. The article says that sources insist the no trade clause is "limited". How limited, exactly? This would be perfect with me! The Cubs actually selling high on a guy? Never thought I would see the day.

  9. Levine was just on not too long ago, took this from another board: Said he expects ATL or CHC by Monday.
  10. If he can get Peavy without giving up too much, I'll gladly give him a mulligan on that horrible 2006 trade. He's defintely had more good ones than bad ones, at least when we're talking major trades and not the type of trades no one on either side cares too much about. He did quite well in the minor trades of Todd Walker and Freddie Bynum. I didn't mean to imply he bombs on the small trades, only that he's had mixed results. There have been several good ones, but also had some not so good ones like Cruz for Pratt, Sosa and Farns both for crap, Wellemeyer for nothing, Maddux for Izturdis, anyone for Kendall, all were deals that looked bad when they were made and look anywhere from bad to neutral at best. There's been several other good ones too. On the major trades, he'd be batting 1.000 as far as I'm concerned if he hadn't overpaid for noodle-armed Slappy. A declining Sosa for Fontenot isn't crap, imo.
  11. Padres don't get enough, and the Marlins want Maybin to be their CF. If Pie is moved anywhere else besides CF, his value goes down a crapload. I coulkd see it: Cubs get: Peavy, Hermida Padres get: Marshall, Olson, Pie, Cedeno, Ceda Marlins get:Castillo, Atkins/Veal, a few of the afore mentioned Cubs low level prospects. Marlins get the shortend here by a good chunk, imo.
  12. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chi-07-whispersnov07,0,3194081.story I'll wait to hear what our other options are and what the Marlins are asking before i'd make any judgement.

  16. Yeah, I posted this a page or two back. Gorky's is one of those real speedy guys who doesn't have a lick of power, but I guess people just like his potential based on speed. He's still awhile away IMO. BUT: Keep in mind Rosenthal's "Cubs vs. Braves for Peavy" article today was written after the AZ republic blog, so that might be more recent. Plus, I tend to trust Rosenthal alot more than a DBacks blogger who had that in his blog as a one or two liner.
  17. And JoJo has been an injury magnet with durability issues over his short career. TJS, torn ACL, then fatigue problems when he recovered from that. Edit: not to mention a piss poor frame.
  18. Man, Schafer was really atrocious against lefties last year. I don't see any difference between him and Pie.
  19. http://www.rotowire.com/roto_to_gnews.htm?ID=274177&sport=mlb Good thing we have Roger Cedeno on this team. http://www.azcentral.com/members/Blog/NickPiecoro/38442 Monday? Guh. I've been assuming it would be a couple weeks (closer to the winter meetings), so Monday would be sweet for me. Towers said today he expects something to get done before the meetings.

  21. Josh Vitters, Drew Rundle. Tony Thomas, Brandon Guyer, Jovan Rosa, Starlin Castro, Junior Lake, Dae-Eun Rhee, James Russell? I was thinking more Hernandez and Suarez.
  22. That the talks are ongoing probably. De Luca said Pads officials had dinner last night to talk about our players, so it's obvious that nothing has been decided on. Admittedly, I don't know a whole bunch on Reyes and Morton(can't find a way to navigate back to BA's last years top 10's for some reason), but is there that big of a difference between them and Marshall? If that is somewhat close, I could see the Padres wanting Pie over Escobar with how valuable his glove could be in Petco.
  23. Well it's pretty much a given now that it would be a multi team trade if we were to get him.
