  1. Maddon's running Fowler/Heyward/Zobrist/Rizzo today as David posted in the gamethread. My immediate reaction is that I still kind of like stacking your best hitters early instead, but it would also be a little funny for a pitcher to have to labor through some long AB's 1-3 and look up to see Rizzo Bryant and Schwarber coming up.
  2. Heydong makes the most logical sense.
  3. Never knew BCVM22 was Randall. I rescind my criticism because he is the man.
  4. Entered. Thread titled "Jason Heyward just gave a pitch a heyride." http://i.imgur.com/XujHL.gif?noredirect
  5. FWIW I just heard Hoyer say that Happ was dealing with a lot of tough things family wise last season but his mind is back in a great place now.
  6. Not a Cub, but I still remember Kaz Matsui's anal fissure.
  7. With all of our depth I kind of hope we screw with the Cardinals the first game and go like: Kawasaki 2B (called up only for this game) Zobrist SS Bryant CF Schwarber C Soler RF Baez 1B Russell 3B Lackey P Heyward LF (OPS'ing .900 but batting 9th just because we can)
  8. I mean Soler literally just put together a righty OPS lower than that last season. And that's not even getting into defense.
  9. Oh man, I completely forgot about the 2nd inning of game 2 against the Cards. Back to back safety squeezes (one of which the the Cards throw into RF). Then the camera pans to Matheny doing everything in his power not to blow up. Then we get our 3rd run of the inning on a lazy little chopper to short. 3 runs without leaving the infield. And next, right when Matheny is probably assuming slow Jorge is gonna find a way to leg out an infield single, he comes up and is like horsefeathers that and just hammers a 2-run dong to dead center. 5:37 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IPww2Xt69T4
  10. I'm just extrapolating here, but I believe what he is implying is: The Nationals were loved by stat nerds last year, but they couldn't win it all because Jonathan Papelbon was a cancer. So, though you nerds may love Papelbon because of his stats, he isn't a winner in my book because of his presence. That is why the Nationals didn't win it last year. The best part is how he assumes that people that use sabermetrics are robots who automatically can't use common sense to tell that someone's a "cancer." The GM is too caught up researching the deep abyss of fangraphs.com to see the headlines or hear the scouts warning you that Papelbon choked out the MVP.
  11. Random, but speaking of tiny faces and large heads... My friend that has a giant face too large for his head (his mouth covers about 70% of his head) posted a selfie he got with tinyface Rizzo at a charity event and the stark contrast between the large and tiny faces so close together just about sent me permanently cross eyed.
  12. Absolutely. I have no idea why Sac does that but absolutely.
  13. Not really sure where to put it, but it was just pointed out how there is pretty much going to be no big-name rental pitchers at the deadline this year. Maybe Cashner, and everything after that is pretty putrid.
  14. At first I thought people were reading way too much into "swing changes" from some lazy BP session, but I guess his other BP sessions from other teams do look more normal. Still not convinced they are going to change things as dramatically as that video looks, but I guess now is the time to try things out.

  16. I only quickly glanced last night so maybe I missed something but I'm pretty sure someone innocently tweeted the picture at Heyward and said something along the lines of "looking good in Cubbie blue!" and Arguello replied "photo property of @CubsDen" or something haha.
  17. The weird thing is that Arguello and him are apparently friends and have met up together on a few occasions, yet Arguello immediately threw him under the bus and assumed it was some diabolical vendetta to make people think bornon3rd was the actual photographer. The picture looked like it was ripped from a Cubs.com article and it's easy to think it's just another mainstream picture if you only see Arguello's tweet pop up on your timeline. Arguello going off about how he thought they were cool and he thought he knew him better had me cracking up like this was really some premeditated attack on him. It was clearly an honest mistake worthy of a DM. Lol [tweet] [/tweet]
  18. Eh, I'm not sure who is to blame there. Is CBS supposed to be aware of every blogger who might Tweet out a pic (especially if it's already a somewhat known blog that Tweeted out Arguello's pic seemingly without crediting the source)? It's not like it's hard to hit re-tweet. It's actually a lot harder to Tweet that pic out without linking it to Arguello's Tweet. and i think everyone here knows how not a fan I am of Arguello's work Yeah, it's just a weird situation. Arguello overreacted with his hissyfit but I can understand why he'd be mad that he didn't get credit on a higher traffic site. That said, I can't blame BornOn3rd too much unless he was intentionally doing it. He probably just saw it and thought it was some mainstream picture from the Cubs. I think the obvious solution would have been to take care of things a little more quietly instead of making a public display out of it and getting your follower army ready for war for what was probably an honest mistake. And yeah, a small watermark probably would be best. I swear I could throw together a normal looking watermark on my IPhone in 2 seconds that's better than whatever he attempted.
  19. Yeah, don't care. But just for fun: the only thing I prefer is to seperate Zobrist and Heyward from batting 1-2 so we can distribute a little of that contact rate around, but even that's just preference. I do like the bat one of your best hitters 2nd thing we did too. Heyward leading off makes a ton of sense, but there were some articles (I think his last year in Atlanta) where he talked about not liking to leadoff. I'm sure he's said the right things publicly for us but I doubt that's changed even if I don't really get it.
  20. You know what they say about guy's with tiny faces...
  21. The true savages are those who use Aunt Jemimias or some corn syrupy garbage over the sap straight from the source.
  22. Wasn't it a Castro for Harper-type of deal? I think more like Soler + Russell + others Also there's not a lot of indication that Washington actually thought he wasn't worth the trouble. There was that allusion around the winter meetings last year to a huge, huge deal that some team was working on that never got far enough down the line. I like to think it was a Harper deal, and hopefully the Cubs, as they're one of only a few teams who had resources to trade that would have been enticing. There were a few attitude rumblings, but I think the main thing at the time was when the Nats low balled him in arbitration (or something similar to that) and there were rumors he was pissed and Boras might have had a few nasty quotes.
  23. Yeah, plus knowing how pitchers are going to attack him, becoming familiar with guys over and over again, and just making continual improvements will help mitigate the drop. I remember 2 or 3 times last year where pitchers figured out a weakness for 2 or 3 weeks that made him look silly and he always came right back and eventually made great adjustments where they were forced to go away from it (low changeups I think?)
  24. Was Kris Bryant's career Minor League BABIP close to his high 2015 MLB version? I believe it's been said that Grichuk and Piscotty had minor league BABIP's much lower than what they produced for the Cards this season. So that would be a good reason to think they're due to decline in 2016. Bryant's minor league BABIP was .406, although even expecting him to maintain a .376 BABIP in the majors is still too much to ask unless he truly is the second coming. But maybe he's a freak exception. And it will still always be really really high.
