  1. Nightengale tweeted that the Reds had found a match and are supposed to trade Bruce to an NL team this morning. Heyman's saying that the Giant's haven't heard anything or been informed that Bruce has been traded.
  2. How about donate each time that the Cubs screw the closer, so that you're not rooting for Chapman at all. In any case, it's a lot more fun to root for "screw the closer" with Chapman. I always felt a little bad for Rondon. I don't for Chapman. There are way too many simple minded people who are amazed when I tell them Rondon has a better ERA and similar K/9 to Chapman after they tell me how much better it will now be to have Chapman closing. And instead of realizing that Rondon is awesome, they think I'm just diminishing Chapman. edit: i just realized this probably wasn't relevant to the main point you were making here but oh well.
  3. They literally asked Rondon about Chapman during the Mets series. His response: "If they bring in a Chapman or Miller and they take my spot, whatever, horsefeathers happens. I can't control that. The most important thing for me is to come into the game, pitch my inning - whatever inning they put me in - and do my job." Because Rondon is the man and gives no fucks.
  4. Did we ever get confirmation he cut up everyone's jerseys? That would be amazing. I thought that's what they were inferring at first, but I later came to interpret that one tweet as Sale cut up his own jersey, therefore making the entire team unable to wear their jerseys because it would look horsefeathering weird if the pitcher was the only one wearing a completely different uniform.
  5. I think he meant it as "whitesox may consider (fire) sale" now. He doesn't mention Chris Sale in the article. Not that they shouldn't listen.
  6. I don't know about baseball, but in my softball league we are talking about an old chain linked fence so it doesn't really apply there.
  7. You won't be thinking that after you read Duke's 5,000 word front page article about my defense coming out tomorrow.
  8. Yep, I can totally see that. And the extra description definitely made it easier comprehend. I was getting ready to argue it until I realized I really had no clue and I'm sure the random softball ump didn't either.
  9. If the ball hit the top of the fence and went over, it'd be a home run. If it hit your glove or head or other part of your body, and went over, it'd be a home run. So, imo, if it does both before going over, it should still be a home run. If it never hit the actual ground, I think it's a HR. I can see that. It just technically sounds logical when we're taking about the top of the fence, but kind of crazy that it should be a homer when it hits the middle/lower part of the fence. But obviously that shouldn't make a difference (if what you said is actually true by the rules which who knows); it's just really fluky.
  10. So at softball yesterday, the opposing team tied it in the last inning off a fluky play. I'm in LF. The opposing hitter hits a rocket over my head. I immediately sprint back towards the ball in case I need to rob it. The ball hits directly off the middle of the fence on the fly. Then, the ball hits directly off of my foot/leg (without touching the ground) and flies straight up in the air and over the fence. After awhile, the ump calls it a home run and says it's because it didn't hit the ground. But wouldn't the middle of the fence essentially count as the ground? Unless I'm completely off base, if the ball was rocketed off the wall and I hypothetically caught it after it hit the wall before it touches the ground, they wouldn't call it an out, would they? Isn't that how it works with the green monster? I know that's a completely different situation but it would still indicate the fence kind of counts as the ground right? But then again if it hits off of the top of the wall and flies over it would still count as a HR so I'm confused again. In reality it had to have hit the ground. Or it might hit the fence, me, the fence again, me again, and then went over. But let's just say it happened like the ump said.
  11. I don't think he said the other team's contracts part but he definitely said (in spring training?) that they have flexibility to do whatever they need to at the deadline.
  12. I really don't think teams are going to dramatically alter their value of a player over a week or two of AB's. And Vogelbach probably would do more for his value to keep mashing in AAA than he would getting a late pinch hit appearance or whatever your plan was if he got the call.
  13. More importantly, this creepy weirdo is gone: http://assets.sbnation.com/assets/976011/d-rose-dance.gif The funny/sad thing is, I bet if we looked in the archives there would be a lot of posts from us talking about how awesome it was that Rose didn't engage in that dancing. I know I got a kick out of it at the time. I think at the time we thought it was Rose taking some macho stance against the villain Lebron and his stupid shenanigans, but in reality it was him just being too shy to do anything.
  14. I have like 1800 followers on Twitter, most of them Cubs fans because I used to follow the people who retweeted those followback things (which I know everyone hates). I'll throw it out there.

  16. Bobby Hill with a touch of http://www.threestooges.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/CurlyHoward.jpg
  17. I keep wanting to say "Arrieta started out very very good last year too, but it wasn't til right around now until when he really caught fire. The same will probably happen this year." And then I realize he's already currently on pace to go 27-0 with a 1.56 ERA and I feel really stupid. A couple extra BB's don't really matter when the next guys still can't hit you.
  18. Not even fully his fault, but he got me when he did a few batflips and then one of the meatballier St. Louis columnists wrote a "Wong batflip a thing of beauty" article when you know damn well the same guy would be calling for retaliation if it was Baez or someone. So I guess basically horsefeathers that columnist, but horsefeathers Wong too by association.
  19. Looks like they were prepared directly on pavement.
  20. Utley looks like some fake caricature of a human being.
  21. I lucked into 5 free tickets that are apparently like 5th row, possibly right behind the plate or maybe a little off to the side. In other words, look for the dude with the "Ride the Butters Wave" sign.
  22. It's Ian Rice and he's going to be a [expletive] stud. I remember there being a funny story behind Eloy's walk up music, but it was just the Starlin dominicany sounding stuff. But yeah, they really poured it on. Eloy looked really good. Good bat speed, and really seemed to control the zone/swing at good pitches. Martinez very patient, and looked weirdly like a combination of Addison Russell and Starlin Castro. Physically, he looks the part though. Got a foul ball. Gave it to a kid a few rows to the left of me. Dad comes to say thank you, his kid earned these tickets from some fundraiser, and promptly slipped me a $50 Hooters giftcard because he apparently owns one or something. So, sweet. Also, the mascot stole my wallet and wouldn't give it back unless I kissed him on his bear cheek, so that was a little weird. And here, enjoy a grainy Eloy single complete with me holding the camera the wrong way. [bbvideo=560,315] [/bbvideo] Great game report, I know. Edit: and this might not mean much, but I thought it was cool that Eloy totally seemed like one of the guys and appeared to be loose and buddy buddy with pretty much everyone. Was expecting him to be more reserved with a possible language barrier.
