  2. Bruce if you're still lurking, do you know if there's any interest in Bedard? It was mentioned that MacPhail and Hendry had lunch (which wouldn't seem out of the ordinary, but now in Joel Shermans latest winter meetings blog he says we are indeed interested. http://blogs.nypost.com/sports/wm/archives/2007/12/bedard_long_sho.html#more

  4. But if the Cubs were to swing a deal that landed Josh Hamilton, they could afford Tejada. If they can afford Fukudome, they can afford Tejada. Hence why I said "If we don't make any other big moves". Signing Fukudome is going to be probably at 11 million, which is a pretty big move (money wise). I'm trying to say they can't afford both Fukudome(or another expensive RF) and Tejada, which is what i'm sure is what Bruce was implying as well.

  6. So, the O's will do a Marlin and dump Tejada and his salary on whomever can get Bedard? If Tejada is being considered a payroll dump to the O's I'd hope Hendry is already on the phone. Bruce said that from what he's heard Tejada's contract is too much for us (unless we don't make any other big moves i'm assuming), so unless Baltimore is going to eat some we shouldn't get our hopes up.
  7. Wut? Hamilton has never been accused of roids. He had a problem with coke. I know that now, 2 people have already mentioned that. I knew it was something and saw "suspended for banned substances" and forgot which it was.
  8. Can somebody give me the quick recap of why Hamilton sometimes gets a bad rep? I know about the steroids thing, but does he have major injury problems in his past ? Or was there just some minor injuries last year and i'm just mistaken. He would definately be a welcome addition though, even if he's injury plagued.

  10. The report i've seem om from the San Diego Trib, but here's Rosenthal confirming the Padres might give us trouble (sorry if already posted): http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7521692

  12. He said in another thread that he's asked and that Tejada would cost to much to us in terms of money, and that's likely not going to change unless the Orioles eat a chunk of the contract (which they won't).
  13. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-071201rogers,1,7650706.column?coll=cs-cubs-headlines Phil Rogers is insane. An offer Hill/Marmol/Pie/Marshall in my mind is blowing away the offers from both evil empires. Why in the world would the Cubs have to part with either Soto or Veal along with the big three they are offering is beyond me. If the Cubs wanted to win this Santana Derby they could easily but at this point with ownership issues there's no way Hendry gambles the farm on one year of Santana. They're not in on Santana. Bruce, if you're still here could you clear up one thing? I know we will offer up some of our pitching this weekend to improve the team like you said, but are we doing this with the intention to acquire a RF'er and not go after Fukudome? Or is this with the intention of getting the speedy lefty (infielder i'm assuming) and still trying for Fukudome?
  14. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chi-newcubs-winter02dec02,1,1079795.story What's the consensus on Chone? Was the .330 average with the near .400 OBP last year a sign of him figuring things out? Can he keep up the .800+ OPS or will he revert to sub .800? Another interesting thing is the part of us "perhaps" shopping Pie.
  15. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/677272,CST-SPT-cub02.article Ibanez would be fine with me assuming we can use the money saved from Fukudome to improve somewhere else, though i'm not sure where. Possibly Kuroda, though that doesn't get me too excited. Fukudome should obviously be the number 1 target. I like the wishful thinking on Markakis too, though that obviously has a -.001 chance of happening. I'd still give them a call and offer Hill + prospects (and sign a pitcher) since they probably are losing Bedard, though we'd likely get told he's off limits before we can even offer.
  16. They really don't have anyone close to a good LF'er. Would they go for a Murton/Epatt (with the intention of trying him at 2nd and possibly center)/Hart deal be enough? Maybe Gallagher and a lower prospect? I really want to try and hold onto Gallagher at all costs though. If they would bite on the Murton/Epatt/Hart package or something along those lines, you've got to pull the trigger IMO.
  17. I do recall Roberts playing a pretty good SS awhile back, and they did have Tejada there all these years. I'm not going to pretend like i'm an avid Orioles watcher, but I think there's a chance he could still play it. Even if we were to get him with the intention of him playing 2B and using Derosa in that role, I still think he could eventually prove he can play SS and push Theriot into the utility role when he starts struggling. Hell, Lou even tried Fontenot at short, no?
  18. From the PSD Forums: http://www.prosportsdaily.com/forums/showthread.php?t=166821 He's also a switch hitter which Hendry would of course approve of since that includes using your left hand. He's not too expensive, and relatively young (30). I don't know if we would play him at second or try to move him back to short (which would be amazing if he could do it), but he would be an excellent addition to the top of the order. If we can go from Kaz Matsui to Roberts (even if it's only by luck), that would be amazing. And while browsing over Roberts' stats, I can't help but think this is about what Fukudome should put up (with a few more HR's). If we could add both Fuku and Roberts it would be a pretty nice boost to the OBP department. Edit: His 50 SB's at a good clip will make him that more appealing to Hendry.
  19. Huffman is very young and from what i'm reading seems like a OBP machine with some decent pop potential. LeBlanc seems very good as well, though I don't know about his stuff (just going off stats). I'd probably do this if it is for all 3, but I have a feeling it's a choose 1 or 2 thing.
  20. Link. I wonder, if we end up losing out on Fuku, if we would try to reallocate his money into signing Kuroda. This is just me talking, but i've also been an advocate of putting Marmol back in the rotation, though we might have to try and acquire another bullpen arm. A rotation of Zambrano, Lilly, Marmol, Hill, Kuroda looks awful attractive to me. Dempster could go back into the pen where he should be, and if Marquis isnt traded he could be a potential long man. Losing Marmol from the pen would hurt, but it's not like Wuertz/Wood/Dempster/Hart/Howry couldn't be alright. This obviously depends on what kind of RF we could get (in terms of price), which porbably wouldn't be easy since it's narrowed down to Lefties only. /sidetracking this thread
  21. Where'd you read that the Red Sox are willing to deal Ellsbury? Everything i've read says the only holdup in the trade is that Boston won't part with him.
  22. http://www.nypost.com/seven/11282007/sports/yankees/yanks_must_up_ante__as_mets__bosox__ange_935373.htm?page=1 It's going to be tough, but you've got to at least kick some tires.
  23. Todd Walker at the plate isnt a bad thing It is for a corner outfielder who'll command probably 11+ million.
