  1. Here's Cuban's latest blog entry about the Mitchell Report:
  2. Already posted awhile ago, probably on page 2 somewhere. Don't mind seeing that again though ;) Edit, I guess it wasn't in the thread I was thinking of. But for some reason I remember reading and seeing that article a few times (maybe it was on a different board).
  3. I think he was mentioned earlier in the thread, but Friedrich would be a very nice pick if he fell to 19.
  4. Nothing groundbreaking, but here's the latest from one Orioles insider: And the other insider: http://forum.orioleshangout.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56462 The guys at Orioles Hangout are getting a little restless and are always asking for info, so this sounds a little rehashed. I think it's just a matter of time, whether it be Bedard or Roberts first.
  5. I just thought i'd bump this to get something off my chest about Fuld. I kind of get the impression that everyone's opinion was negatively weighted on Fuld because we thought of him in the context of an everyday player (and Hendry absurdly stated he was basically untouchable). Even though he's not going to be that, I still can see him having a bigger impact than most think in a Ryan Freel type of mold. He's very good defensively and has one of the best eyes this system has had in recent years (which I guess might not being saying much since this is the Cubs and plate discipline we're talking about). To add onto that, BA's ranked him as our best Strike Zone judgement minor league player for the last 3 years in a row. I know this was random, but I just think that he could be more of an asset with his approach than we give him credit for. He won't ever hit for enough power to man the starting CF spot, but if used right could still prove to be a useful player (See a slightly less versatile Freel--who'm I remember alot of people were wanting us to target back in the day).
  6. Completely random 3-way that would never happen but should: Orioles trade: Bedard/Roberts Orioles receive:Bailey or Cuetto/Votto/Pie/Gallagher/Cedeno Reds trade: Bailey or Cuetto/Votto/Hamilton (rumored area for Bedard currently) Reds receive: Bedard/Fuld/midlevel prospect from Cubs Cubs trade: Pie/Cedeno/Fuld/Gallagher/mid level prospect (or Ceda if needed) Cubs get: Hamilton/Roberts Orioles fans seem to like Hamilton but would rather go for someone a little younger (even though Hamilton isn't really that old). They are almost demanding Pie for Roberts, so we give them that with the help of the Reds. Slowly but surely move DeRo to short: Soriano Roberts Lee Fukudome Ramirez Hamilton Soto DeRosa Pitcher Now that's a sexy offense.
  7. Ping what do you think of Tim Beckham if you know anything about him. Obviously he seems like he should be gone at our pick and i've even seen him as high as #2 overall on the very early mocks, but from a couple people i've talked to they said he never raelly stood out (though i'm sure they aren't religiously following him).
  8. I really like what i'm hearing about Harold Martinez (prep SS/3b).
  9. Just passing along. We've been hearing this for 2 weeks. As previously stated, we've been hearing that other trades need to happen first for Angelos to realize he needs to approve a Roberts deal for rebuilding.
  10. Someone posted a thread about possibly including Roberts in a Bedard deal to Seattle, and one of the insiders said: Just passing along.
  11. http://forum.orioleshangout.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56392 Second post: I think we have the pieces for Bedard, but including Roberts in a deal is going to porbably cost too much. A deal of Pie/Marmol/Gallagher/Patterson/Maybe Murton for just Bedard (depending on if they think they'll have use for Murton)ranks right up there withthe Kershaw or Kemp/Hu/LaRoche deals i've heard possible or the Bailey/Votto/3rd prospect's(posssibly Hamilton).
  12. If I'm trading Marmol, I want something more than another reliever who is going to cost $40-50 million next year. If I felt comfortable that Carlos would still have his right arm intact by the end of 2008, I would agree. If I felt comfortable that Nathan owned a time machine to become young again, I would agree.
  13. BTW, Levine was on and said that it was untrue and that Cubs haven't even talked to th Twins. Here's a couple nice posts at PSD from Twins fns about their 33 year old Nathan: Words of wisdom:
  14. Orioles radio had an interview with MacPhail tonight. In the thread, a poster said: Personally not getting my hopes up.
  15. Fukudome will obviously play right field for about all of this year as agreed upon, but if he's open to moving to center after he's become more acqainted with the team (09) some outfielders look tempting. Teixeira if he's willing to play right, our very popular Adam Dunn, possibly Manny Ramirez who i'm sure Boston might not pay the 20 mill or whatever his option of his. Pitching wise (talking big names), you can make a run at Johan (unlikely), Sabathia (boy would that be nice), and Sheets among others. Edit: Wow, I don't think i've ever realized how good Teixeira is. I mean, I knew he was a premium bat but I still didn't realize he put up an .963 OPS last year. I was expecting something in the upper .800's. Hopefully Cuban's comes in with a bang and snags him
  16. Maybe i'm taking it a little far assuming the payroll won't decrease, but hopefully we get a owner who cares about winning alot. And it's not like they won't know what there buying, there's already going to be alot of big bucks being payed by us no matter what.
  17. I know this is a little early for some but I thought i'd take a look at how much we can potentially have to spend next offseason. Obviously the ownership is in question, but we'll assume the payroll will stay around the 120-125 mill mark (and hope it can maybe even increase a little, depending on the buyer). Guys who we can let go: Dempster: 5.5 million Wood:4.2 million Howry: 4 million Eyre: 3.8 million Blanco: 2.5 million (2.8 mill- 300k buyout) Ward: 1.2 million Cotts: 800k = 22 million potentially off the books. Obviously, i'm sure we will resign a player or two and purchase a few small contracts of minor leaguers if needed, but it has potential for another big signing. Majority of the players are from the bullpen, so i'm hoping a few guys (Samardizja..though he'll cost a litte more, Veal if he continues out of the pen, maybe a guy like Maestri(sp) can surprise and get here a little faster) can step forward from the farm and fill in nicely and cheaply. I'd probably try to reup Wood assuming he's coming off a nice year, but i'd plan on hopefully taking advantage of a good year possibly closing for Howry and getting some picks. Here's a list of some FA available next offseason(I honestly haven't even looked through them all yet). http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/2002/02/2008-09-free-agents.html
  18. 10 bucks says we reacquire Rusch as a veteran presence for the stretch run next season, even though Sean Gallagher was pitching very well.
  19. If the trade was ONLY Pie for Roberts, straightup--or perhaps with a nobody throw-in like Jake Fox or Juan Mateo--then I would support that. Moving Pie in such a deal implies (to me at least) the Cubs keep Gallagher and Veal, and that's a good thing. With Prior now gone and few of us having any confidence in Ryan Dempster, I think it's more important to keep our pitching prospects than it is to keep our only position player prospect. It would also mean that we must be somewhat confident of acquiring a CF, since i'm about 99% sure Funkudome wont' be playing any regular time there. Supposedly a main reason he chose us was for RF, and Hendry even said on the radio today we plan to use him at RF.
  20. Don't know where to put it, but on the interview at 5 an intereting thing Hendry said was they view Murton as a LF and will do everything to accomodate him. Sounds like trade. Interview was normal Jimbo though, didn't reply to any of the specifics.
  21. BTW, this started out as a Score report saying we are interested in a prominent AL pitcher. A few days ago on the PSD forums, a pretty well respected poster said he talked to a blue jays scout (named Kimball Crossley--who you can google if you want) and one of the different deals he said had been discussed was Derosa, Marquis (thank you Blue Jays if you take this offer), possibly Murton (depending possibly on if the Rios deal goes through), and another lesser pitching prospect for Burnett. This info also joved with the Score report that said we will consider trading DeRo. And keep in mind, the Blue Jays GM said this offseason that he'd be stupid not to take offers for Burnett because of his optout clause.
  22. Solid article Bruce. Good stuff as always Bruce. One thing though, I could've sworn the Lou quote comparing him to other players was a cross between Hideki Matsui and Ichiro (not that I necessarily agree). You've got Kaz in there. Edit: From here: http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20071209&content_id=2321824&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc
  23. Any early indication on if he'll start next year or come out of the pen (probably too early to tell)? CR, when were these instructionals that Oneri said he's fixed the slot problem?
