I mean they obviously need hitting, but I still wouldn't trade a potential ace who's worst case scenario is an above average number 2. Lincecum's worst case scenario is career ending injury, and it's not that far fetched. So is every other ace pitchers, but you generally don't think it's going to happen to a guy who has no injury history whatsoever. Just because he throws a little wierd doesn't mean he's magically going to be hurt. The guy pitches like a jackknife. He has a maximum effort delivery. He is an injury risk. And the fact that he has never been injured means next to nothing, as Mark Prior (who we were told was the closest thing to invincible due to his flawless mechanics) can attest. I'm not saying Lincecum will get hurt, just that I'm not so sure Alex Rios isn't a safer bet for long-term production. You can bring up Pior, I can bring up Oswalt :wink: . Both generally defied the odds for what kind of career was predicted for them injury wise. I don't think it's that bad. Maybe this is flawed thinking, but if he were 6'3 that would look alot more normal IMO.

$10 million? HAHAHA Wow, that is more then I expected. But if they weren't going to use that 10 million for anything else and it comes off the books in one year, it still can be a decent move considering the picks they could get.

If it's a one year deal, it's probably a very good move considering Gagne likely can pitch good enough to be a type A reliever (healed from whatever plagued him the second half last season) and the Brewers can get a nice pick out of it.

With Christmas coming i'm looking to get some books. Obviously, Moneyball is the most popular book that I haven't read (though i'm sure I have a good knowing and idea of what's in it), so i'm getting that. Any other strategic/statistical books that you would recommend?

Kind of what I was thinking too, in terms of payroll. Not that we necessarily will have it that high just to have it that high, but if a right scenario came along we could do it. There's no reason why we can't add alot of payroll, as long as it makes the team more attractive to potential buyers. As far as Bedard, was that just purely what Levine wanted or did he kind of give a hint that we may be interested?

come on, there's a lot more valuable stats than batting average. Is their a mental beakdown stat? You have, by far, the worst baseball anaysis of anyone currently posting on this board. You dont have to be a stat head to know that hes injury prone, a basket case, and not even an up grade over Jacque Jones offensively or defensively. :shock: I don't know if you implied that because you think he will be injured (therefore making every player better than him), but he's a much better hitter (approach and power) than Jacque.

No, not at all. But when you say "at this point", you bring up a good point. The Cubs are in the position they are in at this point, because of how badly Hendry has screwed up in the past. So even a couple good moves wouldn't be enough to offset the big picture mess that has been the Hendry era. What is "The position they are in"? The team that finished the regular season 55-38 in their last 91 games, one of the best teams in baseball during that stretch? Despite underperforming from the three offensive stars, and disappointing season from the #1 starter. We'll play out next season with a significant upgrade at catcher, and likely upgrades in the CF & RF, all the while losing very little production elsewhere. I guess I don't share the dire outlook that others do. Trade Pie for Greene Oooof. Are we really that down on Pie that we want to ship him out of town for crap like Khalil Greene?? I sense a large rant from Meph coming that I will agree with.

I get a sick feeling anytime I hear anything about Aramis being moved, but hypothetically speaking would anyone here do a Aramis for Lincecum (or Cain) deal, assuming SF eats most of his contract? That would free up alot more money to play with in trades or to sign another player. Assuming we acquire Roberts, Derosa can move to third, and Vitters would be waiting in the wings a couple years from now. We could take on someone like Tejada's salary as well if a deal could be worked out. A rotation of -Z -Lilly -Lincecum(I know Lincecum will be better than Lilly but the Cubs will probably split the righties from the lefties) -Hill -Marquis/Marshall Looks sexy. I'm too lazy to come up with a creative way to use the extra money, but i'm sure there would be a way to still put a good offense on the field. Not saying I do this deal as i'm a huge Aramis guy but I need to find a way to pass some time until we get something done.

Not too much. Don't know how long you've been gone, but basically the rumored deal is Gallagher+ another player (likely Murton). Pie would not be the other player, and the Cubs have denied Hill being in any talks and don't plan to include him in any.
