  1. Sorry, was signed and they planned him to play RF. Then it was center then they decided to move him to left and throw the whole outfield into a major problem defensively. I'm only 20, my memory can't be that bad. I recall him being signed to play left, then center, then left again. apparently it is. Many people on this board have said he was signed to play right. There were conflicting reports. Alot of newspaper outlets flew with one positoin (don't remember which), but Bruce was on here and said the opposite. I don't even remember who was right.
  2. Just had to get in on that... Anyways, does this even matter? He's a second baseman who's also not a liability at short. He won't be the best SS around, but if needed he's not going to hurt you playing there.
  3. I'm all for getting a RF reasonably with a little pop or something. A guy like Nady or even taking a chance on a Jermaine Dye who had a 1.000 OPS last year and is just struggling this year in hopes that he would turn it around. But unless the sole purpose of getting a guy like Monroe is to add someone off the bench who is at least a threat to go deep, Murton is the better answer.
  4. damn right the cubs called that off...no need to replace one hole by makin another Not even sure what hole we are replacing with Craig Monroe in the first place...
  5. Paraphrasing a Hendry interview from about a week ago on what deals he's looking to make: "I'm always looking to improve the team, but I also know we have nice pieces here. I'm not going to look to go out and replace Ryan Dempster. I'm not going to go look for someone to replace Ryan Theriot." I know we should always look for improvement, but we're winning and Theriot is doing a solid job both ways and providing some spark into the lineup and clubhouse. He's done just about everything you can ask for and it just doesn't seem like you should reward that by replacing the guy, especially when things are clicking on the field and in the clubhouse. Obviously, Tejada is and always will be the better player, but I just don't think you go out of your way to improve something that isn't really that much of a problem when you have other problems much bigger than replacing a solid #2 hitter.
  6. IMO Quade hasn't been bad at all. Everyone makes a mistake once in awhile, but I don't remember too many games this year saying "Why Quade WHY?!!" Most of the times when he holds up runners our 3 or 4 hitters are coming up, so it's not like you can't find reason in it. And on the Murton mistakes, I don't think Quade would be at fault for those either. Most were groundballs and on grounders you have to decide whether you are going on contact or playing it safe, and that's either Murton's choice or possibly Lou's.
  7. 2 on no out. Can Ross bunt?
  8. Fly out to right!
  9. Well to be fair the guy who mentioned the players wasn't the guy who I knew was a good poster. The guy who's a regaular guy over there and respected (over 4000 posts) actually didn't specify any names, just that we had an offer on the table for only Nady and not Marte, and we're waiting for Pittsburgh's response. FWIW, he says his brother knows some people in the FO. I mean these things always turn out to be bogus, but since i've seen the guy actually talk some good baseball over there before he doesn't seem like the typical Cubs.com guy, but who knows.
  10. Rumor: Keep in mind this is from the Cubs.com board so it shoots down most of the credibility, but two people (one of which who I know is a normal poster there who doesn't create crazy threads) are saying the Cubs are going hard after Nady and the Cubs have an offer of (off the top of my head) Hoffpair, Moore, Gallagher and PTBNL for Nady and Marte, and the other poster said he's heard mostly the same players but just for Nady and no Marte. Again, don't shoot the messenger since it's from a usually unreliable board but it's the rumor time of the year so I thought i'd throw it out there for the hell of it. IIRC, the Score did report awhile back that we were interested in Nady. And by the way, I scanned Marte's numbers and  . I remember him having a rough go in recent seasons but he is shooting lights out from the pen this year.
  11. From what that says it seems like a winner will be picked around the world series but the winner and Zell (or whoever) reaching a deal could take a little longer (?).
  12. Surprised we all forgot about Church. He's having a so so year, but he still would be an interesting name to put in center if the price is right. Church this season: .267/.342/.420/.790, though i'd expect his slugging % to improve a little more later into the season. Last season he had a .890 OPS. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070723&content_id=2103882&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb
  13. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/baseball/mlb/07/23/coolbaugh.dies.ap/index.html Wow, RIP. I know it's obviously not his fault (intent), but that has to also be horrible for the batter who struck him.
  14. Couldn't find it on BTF (not saying you're lying or anything), is there a link you can throw? And FWIW, am I not the only one who heard Len (on the day of the trade) say we will be choosing from Pittsburghs AA affiliate?
  15. Yes, please. Who cares where he plays, the more good bats the better. It's not like he'll be demanding any big playing time, and those numbers really shocked me when I saw them.
  16. Supposedly Brewers radio (WSSP or something?) said that the deal would be finalized by tonight, according to a poster on the realgm link.
  17. Hopefully Braun is what Josh Vitters will become.
  18. And on Greinke: But the KC paper doesn't mention us about Dotel and says Greinke's pice would most likely be too high: http://www.kansascity.com/sports/story/195953.html
  19. I get what you're saying about MLB guys seemingly not valuing Dunn as much as us, but i'd still do that proposed trade.
  20. How about something along the lines of Marshall and Epatt or Fontenot?
  21. I'll be the first to admitt I was one of the people that thought really high of Ervin and tried numerous scenarios that many people didn't like to get him. I was wrong.
  22. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/nl/giants/2007-07-17-bonds-rest_N.htm Bonds is afraid of LF bleacher bums. Book it. +1
