They're currently ranked in the upper half of per game attendance in the major leagues. Just thought I'd note that. If you were aware of that before your post, we define the word "pathetic" differently. Look at their stadiums during games, they are never filled. Since Chicago is a big market i'd wager there's a bunch of scalper type of people who just buy a crapload of tickets hoping to sell them and are left with alot of extras, like they do for the Cubs, except Cubs fans actually buy most of the scalpers tickets. Let me see if I understand this. You believe that scalpers -- who have a significant financial disincentive to buy tickets they can't sell -- are buying "craploads" of tickets they can't sell? You don't know much about how scalpers work (my sister actually scalps tickets in Atlanta and was just talking about it with me the other day, so I have a little insight). Basically, they buy a bunch of tickets when the season starts at normal price, or if they know people, can get them a little cheaper if they buy a higher volume. Then, when gametime actually comes around however many months later, they shoot up the price (hell, look on stubhub, I paid 55$ for 20$ tickets for seats in the absolute last row in upperdeck). So basically they can afford to sell 1/2 of the tickets they purchase and still make a profit due to the increase in price they put on the tickets in relevance to the original price they purchased them at. Look, i'm not saying this is 100% the reason for what i'm implying about the Sox attendance, but it adds up. Edit: And when I was talking to my sister she said she had 70 tickets left (not sure how much she originally purchased) in a recent series and still made over 300$ in profit, and keep in mind we;re talking about Braves games where the seats don't exactly get filled.
