  1. Billy McKinney, Gleyber Torres, Logan Watkins, Justin Steele seems pretty comparable
  2. that's markedly better than putting a [expletive] $24M AAV valuation on Jeff Samardzija
  3. who even knows, he about halved his GBs in the 2nd half which is pretty unheard of and put up a .335/.418/.486 slash post ASB (with a .412 babip) he's a pretty intriguing target, but his historically poor D coupled with the corner OF situation we've got makes him mostly unrealistic, i suspect
  4. we'd be clear division favorites with that offseason unless StL gets Heyward back
  5. Not if you're Jake. Because turning down contract extensions from Theo turned out so well for Garza and Shark. When it comes to starting pitchers being offered long term contracts during arbitration years, there is absolutely something to be said for the expression "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush". Samardzija was awful this past year, and is lined up to get close to the same he would've with the extension, or he'll have the option to take a short-term deal and make bank the following year. Garza lost what 20M? I mean, is the thought process here that extensions from Theo are more valuable than extensions from other FOs? Or just that all pitchers should take extensions? Turning down contract extensions sure seemed to work out well for David Price, Johnny Cueto, Zack Greinke, Jordan ZImmermann, Clayton Kershaw, etc. Chris Sale could be looking at free agency next year and a 200M+ contract. Instead he'll be under control for 3/38 through his age 30 season. iirc estimates were in the 5/90 neighborhood, i'd be stunned if he gets that with the 1st rounder (worth ~$20m) also attached you're also discounting the good fortune he's enjoyed to make it to this point injury-free or he might have been in Justin Masterson territory for striking out on a real payday
  6. I guess it's possible that he confused Adam Eaton with Chris Sale? he's probably a bad fit here because of CF poor defense, but Almora/McKinney & Castro for Eaton doesn't seem like a bad value at all
  7. no idea what to think of this team right now i love that Beilein pulls a guy out of D-III and of course now he immediately looks like one of the best shooters in the country, and LeVert looks awesome, but post defense is a total mess- we give up like 10 uncontested layups every game and everybody looks at each other confused
  8. that's kinda surprising, all those but BOS are just about the 3 most FIP-loving teams in the game
  9. according to The Proclaimers it's within walking distance
  10. I think you're overrating Soler quite a bit to think you'd do better than Miller and Teharan. Two very good cost controlled pitchers. I'm not even necessarily saying I'd do the trade, but you're not getting much better than that for Soler alone. He's talented but he's flawed. i just don't prize high-end pitching all that highly; Teheran seemed cool to add at the was-bad-at-everything-in-2015 discount the consistent narrative i've been touting is just adding Heyward and having a relatively unassailable lineup that threatens for most runs in the league and even the steady but uninspiring, quality start machines like Hendricks/Leake/Hammel win a ton of games Jason Heyward Kris Bryant Anthony Rizzo Kyle Schwarber Jorge Soler Addison Russell Castro / Baez Montero / Contreras yup, that lineup for sure wins the division like 4 of the next 5-6 seasons
  11. maybe i'm unreasonable but i think i want a better pitcher than Miller or Teheran if i'm giving up Jorcules (Solercules?)
  12. you say this all the while campaigning to exile the guy with 2 BB/9 : 8.9 K/9, 3.49 FIP as a Cub amusingly, those rates were 3.1 & 6.5 before we signed him, at age 31... I'm the guy campaigning to not exile that guy. be that as it may...THE POINT REMAINS
  13. you say this all the while campaigning to exile the guy with 2 BB/9 : 8.9 K/9, 3.49 FIP as a Cub amusingly, those rates were 3.1 & 6.5 before we signed him, at age 31...
  14. whoa that was eerie
  15. Leake can't take over a game like Samardzija can. Leake is also projected to make 5/80 well, yeah, he can last 3 years starts w/ 7+ IP, 2- ER: Shark - 38% / Leake - 37% but also Leake doesn't bomb a game quite like Samardzija can... starts w/ 4+ ER: Shark - 37% / Leake - 32%
  16. everybody seems to be cool with Shark, yet this guy has had 40% more on-field value since Shark became a full-time starter, and Leake will probably come at some crazy affordable price (3/42?)
  17. because Jason Heyward is going to run down all the fly balls he'll induce and he'll be a nice #5 #4 when we trade off Gleyber Torres and young P at the deadline for a SP edit: forgot about Jon Lester
  18. Didn't they just sign the interim guy to a 2 year deal? By the way, I'd absolutely be in favor of that move. yeah, and they seem super excited about it
  19. decimated depth coming to roost but on the bright side maybe this affords us a couple more years of Durkin?
  20. death by 1,000 paper cuts
  21. he punted from the UNL 38 today on 4th & 2
