  2. wowowow, that game
  3. think of the children! oh, nevermind that, actually
  4. Most of the guys they have we could have had if we were willing to spend big on the draft. Hopefully Ricketts will be willing to do so. take nothing away from the royals - they've done great to go well above slot to grab talents like myers, crow, dwyer, hosmer, etc, but they've also had the advantage of being consistently lousy and drafting at the front of each round. players like hosmer, moustakas and crow were not available when we were drafting. plus even their slot picks have had an above-average number of hits lately. they're doing the draft right... cubs are not. When you have a top 5 pick pretty much every year, your bound to put a team together eventually. See Rays, Tampa Bay. they've had Upton, Longoria and Price as top picks contributing ok, now explain away everybody else
  5. Luis Gonzalez's career almost perfectly mirrors Bautista's done so far 9 seasons with a .268/.341/.432 (.774) line, then he goes to Arizona and the next 3 seasons with a .324/.408/.593 (1.001) line i don't even remember if he was linked with steroids, but a lot of that team was suspicious, Jay Bell most of all
  6. yeah, Lake, Burke and Vitters were three guys i gave up all hope for last year, and Lake's line so far just has me shoveling more dirt on his coffin
  7. Z's been good but LA's lineup is really bad today as well. that's putting it mildly, this is perhaps the worst lineup i've seen all year throughout baseball; Kemp's the only hitter who's not purely AAA-fodder
  8. a no-hitter doesn't count when you walk Juan [expletive] Pierre three times
  9. fwiw, Vitters' career BABiP so far is .297 and his speed score is 4.3
  10. music to my ears now we can sign a couple decent starters (Josh Wilson?, Tulloch/Nicholas?) to push some flawed players into depth roles and i'll start printing playoff tickets
  11. he's Bonds-ian in that he stands close enough to the plate to be able to pull outside pitches and has the eye to pass on pitches he can't murder; this HR (@1:25) off David Price is likely called a ball, outside, if he doesn't swing and he still pulls it out to LF 5 of his 9 HR are actually on pitches that were on the outer-third of the plate (and last year he had similar success in plate coverage) http://joelefkowitz.com/batter_hr_sm.php?d1=-1&d2=-1&y=2011&pid=430832
  12. Kobe choked? In what way? There was a foul on the lost ball which wasn't called SURELY YOU JEST
  13. 2012 mock draft
  14. seems like two big winners in this draft are Walterfootball, for their prediction on Mallett falling so far, and Gosselin for nailing most of the first round
  15. it does seem like a ton to give up for what's surely a part-time RB for us hard to judge until i see what we do in FA for LB, CB, G
  16. i still can't believe the other-worldly haul the Browns got for the 6th pick they'll have a hard time not having the best draft of any team for the next year and this one
  17. stop it, you're giving me a semi with this talk
  18. i think Vince Young's a better comparison, but trading bad emotional makeup for off-putting conceit
  19. even signing [expletive] Drew Stanton to an offer sheet with his original 2nd round tender seems like a smarter idea than reaching on any of these mentioned QBs and paying them slot money
  20. this would have been a good opportunity for that http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/team-joy-squad-25-21/
  21. 68 HR in his last 190 games (.271/.390/.641) 57 HR in his previous 567 games (.238/.330/.392)
  22. Guyer's hitting .356/.413/.616 with 4 home runs in 73 ABs for AAA Durham.
  23. He's a point a game player, one of the top 5 passers in the league, who hasn't even entered his prime yet. People who are saying that just started watching the Hawks last year. Not saying that as a slam against them because I want the NHL to have as many fans as possible, but his skill-set is extraordinary and under no circumstances do you shop him. And some people were saying he disappears when the going gets tough. What the hell game have they been watching the past few years? He's got over a PPG in the playoffs and, oh yeah, scored the STANLEY CUP WINNING GOAL. People are dumb.
  24. oh man, i'd love it if Ponder & Dalton went in the top 12 but we're probably the deepest team in the league at the DT position, so Fairley makes about as much sense as a QB, though i'd love to see all the personal fouls he and Suh could commit together
